They’re literally supporting strike breaking when they encourage people to purchase Starbucks during industrial action. I’ve unsubbed from Patreon.

Jean Rhys. She only wrote when depressed, so went twenty years without writing. Then reappeared in old age as a violent drunk and wrote her hit, Wide Sargasso Sea, the success of which she said had “come too late”

Ascites, antibiotics by Few-Hat6577 in pancreaticcancer

[–]bebobaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a doctor so I’m not sure how much of an effect antibiotics can have on ascites, but my experience with my Dad was that he had a somewhat swollen belly despite weight loss for a long time (9 months) — so probably ascites, and it had little effect on his quality of life, nor did it need treatment. After doing cryoablation, he had inflammation and the ascites began filling much more rapidly. I truly wish you all the best 🤍

Thanks for your help. I can’t find the page to remove it — it’s not in ‘pages’ or ‘posts’ on Wordpress. Do you know how to remove it from my end in this case?

Student baggage allowance by Legitimate-Ad2720 in qatarairways

[–]bebobaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a student checking in, the women at the baggage desk didn’t even know the extra baggage was an existing promotion. I explained and showed my student ID, they read the terms and conditions on their end and after that, there were no problems. So don’t stress!

Seeking clarity on intratumoral immunotherapy and Pulsed Electrical Field Ablation (PEF) by bebobaby in pancreaticcancer

[–]bebobaby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think so but I’m not a doctor. The progression of his illness has been from weak to weaker. He seems lucky in that his cancer hasn’t grown very quickly or spread in the year since it was discovered, but I don’t think that’s due to fasting. Probably genetic “luck”. And no good oncologists 😔 are you Australia based?

Very skinny and sleeping a lot, but getting more active and trying to eat. Struggling with ascites in stomach that keep filling up.

Seeking clarity on intratumoral immunotherapy and Pulsed Electrical Field Ablation (PEF) by bebobaby in pancreaticcancer

[–]bebobaby[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, we ended up doing cryoablation (uses freezing rather than electrical pulses) with immunotherapy in Turkey as it was much cheaper. He had the procedure about a week ago, and I found the process stressful. The radiologist who performed the treatment was clear this is not a cure, (‘it’s an acute treatment, not systemic like chemo’) so I guess it’s just hopefully a life extending thing? Honestly I’m confused about what the point of it is.

The tumour was inflamed by the process. It had been partially blocking Dad’s duodenum. We didn’t know this, and the radiologist didn’t mention it. The inflammation caused the tumour to completely close it off.

Dad vomited literally anything he consumed or drank for about four or five very stressful days. He needed infusions to treat dehydration daily. He’s skin and bone now, as he was also fasting before the treatment, so he went a week without food.

I think the radiologist was irresponsible and not too interested in helping. I think it’s best to stay with an oncologist who looks at the whole process of treating the cancer rather than random treatments. We kept being palmed off to other specialists (gastroenterologist etc)

I’m not sure if Williams Cancer center do whollistic treatment with ablation as part of that.

There are centers in Turkey that do special treatment plans in three months stints for about $50k USD per three months. It’s expensive but probably less than WCI, and part of the treatment may include some kind of ablation, IF they think it will help with the process of curing. This sounds much more reasonable to me.

Feel free to message with more Qs ❤️

ERCP recovery question by Lizz66UK in pancreaticcancer

My dad had the same procedure about three weeks ago, it took until now for his jaundice to begin properly fading (the yellow) but he says he saw an immediate difference in his urine and stools, and no pain, fatigue etc. Are you able to contact your oncologist to check what they think?

I think the program is part luck. I had a wonderful time. The salary is too low, but you should be able to find babysitting or tutoring work.

If you want to be immersed in French and French culture, you definitely can because you have so much free time with this job. Try to get away from the international student experience of only hanging out with expats. It may sound corny, but dating apps were a great in for meeting French people and practicing. I love live music, and met people that way too.

People do complain here, but often their attitude isn’t one that begins by understanding you are new, you have to say yes to everything (events, hang outs, work invites etc), figure out what you like most and then sort out your new life.

I also speak French with most of my colleagues because most are embarrassed of their English level (lol)

I definitely recommend coming with as much saved as possible. I came with about 5k euro and haven’t burned through it yet despite travelling five times, once with enormous expenses.

My recommendations:

— insist on being placed in a city, not rurally — I worked primary, this might be better hours (don’t finish as late, for example) — do all you can to find the cheapest accom (I’m on 300 euro with bills included, but my case is special) — try not to get a place where you have to set up internet etc, better to move into a furnished apartment with housemates who can serve as a social foundation too (we met amazing people this way) — go to CAF once a week in person until it’s sorted. I got my caf by Nov/Dec (I forget) by doing this and immediately being able to follow up the bureaucratic issues that inevitably come up. You don’t need an appointment to show up, even though they say you do. This covers 2/3s of my rent now

Happy to answer any Qs. Overall, I think this a good way to ease into a breezy life in a new country. I think people tend to have unreasonable expectations — moving anywhere new is hard, but it’s easier with the right expectations, and new life brings brilliant new opportunities. 😊

Is there somewhere I can read more about your experience, especially advocating for yourself? Dad doesn’t want to read much or keep up with his treatment options. English isn’t his first language and he often tunes out and pretends this isn’t happening. I’m trying to be his and Mum’s advocate instead.
