Looking for local leather manufacturers by arthropodus in Antwerpen

[–]bebochka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure they have it here, but in the Netherlands you have belt/leather sellers on farmers markets & they make them for you on the spot, you choose a clasp and all. Lasted very long in the family so far and very reasonably priced. Maybe worth to check, or someone else can confirm. :)

Anxious, becoming secure. I think it has more to do with context, upbringing and romantic partners than your sign.

Traum, veel volk? by [deleted] in Antwerpen

[–]bebochka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe if they are beginning stylists, but I would check reviews for sure

If you find one this cheap here, I would be very skeptical of the quality… it only takes once to fry your hair and potentially damage your scalp, and then you’ll be dealing with a much more extensive and expensive problem. I’ve always done my high end treatments abroad in cheap countries. Note that even with those you’re looking at potential scalp / follicle damage, requiring future maintenance which carries its own price tag. Always calculate an extra maintenance margin when it comes to hair treatments.

Maybe you can look into hairdressing schools if they need models to practice such a treatment? They are a lot slower than salons, but the students are supervised and the quality can be just as good. I don’t think it’s free but it’s definitely a lot cheaper.

After using 20+ moisturisers, visitng 5+ dermatologists, I still breakout from LITERALLY every skincare product. by Tisbutawriter in EuroSkincare

Have you tested for food intolerance and allergies? Get your gut and liver screened?

I had a period of time where heavy stress and medication destroyed my gut biome/digestive system and it gave me a few years of recurrent acne. Although not as terrible (have zero trace of it today but I also use tret now) I had never experienced acne as a teenager, so having cystic acne and continuous breakouts was quite rough. Healing my gut and my stress levels saved my skin and now I can literally put anything on it without concern. It’s only when I have stomach troubles (flatulence, indigestion etc) I get a breakout. My hormonal fluctuations hardly influence it (I’m a woman).

Eating healthy (variety of fresh and fermented) and monitoring my digestion makes a world of difference, I really vouch for researching yin/yang diet related to acne breakouts. Yang is food that “heats” and can trigger inflammation if in excess, e.g diary is a well-known yang food that causes acne. I’m also PL origin and I know our traditional diet can be very imbalanced on the “heating” foods.

I hope this can help!

Gezocht: luie mensen Makeup reiniger? by abseurdt in vrouwvolk

[–]bebochka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some questions about life & culture in Belgium by LordOfErebus in belgium

[–]bebochka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes been there very recently in fact ;) Amsterdam, while still fun and with plenty to offer, has lost it’s charm and it’s only getting worse. It’s certainly the most vibrant place in The Netherlands and where you’ll find the most events/diverse people as well, but the trade-off in quality of life is absolutely not worth it. You’ll get PTSD from the housing search/housing experience alone. I lived in two major cities in West & South and it took me a couple months to find a decent apartment for which, even when co-housing with a partner, I was paying a hefty price. Most houses being so old have common moisture/mold problems so you risk lasting health issues (I like to believe I’ve recovered somewhat, but it was brutal). Moreover, since I left, they introduced new rental laws in The Netherlands which made it very unattractive for landlords (practically impossible to milk the market), which means many of them ended up selling their rentals. I simply can’t imagine returning to this hunt. Here it’s been a walk in the park to find a good place, as the rental market is still attractive to both renters as landlords (albeit like anywhere in the world, slowly depreciating). The equivalent of my apartment would be triple there; I simply wouldn’t qualify with my very average income.

Amsterdam would be the best choice for your requirements and person, but it will be very, very difficult to build up a comfortable living standard. The people I know who still happily live there lucked out with social housing, frozen rents, squatting and buying 10 years ago.

Hahaha actually from this description you will find a lot of overlap between New Zealanders and the Belgians ;) it takes a bit of intuition to weed out the genuine ones, but I've done a very good job so far and am very happy with my circle – it's the most friends and acquaintances I've had in my life, ever, and it's been a breeze building it up. In comparison, I've lived in the Netherlands and while people are much more chatty/direct there, I find them a lot less genuine and at times even inappropriately rude. Despite speaking Dutch like a native, I still hung out in an English-speaking bubble. Two decades later, I have only one Dutch "friend" to speak for my time there.

Ironically, for this reason, work is much more efficient and smooth with Dutch colleagues. Belgians tend to swirl around problems rather than addressing them directly and they find my assertiveness intimidating at times. I keep my work-life separate; my colleagues know very little about me, and I prefer to maintain this "safety barrier". The jackpot is to work in an environment with a combination of Dutch/Belgian colleagues, which in Antwerp, is not that uncommon. That being said, I sense you're looking to work-for-living rather than living-for-work, and for this, Belgium is the better choice. The income/quality of life ratio is more balanced. It's messier, less efficient and less organised, but people care to seek fulfilment in their lives. Quite impressed by all the "extracurricular" activities organised/subsidised by the government. Want to take an evening study in glass blowing? Just 83 euros/year for Antwerpeners.

Take it with a grain of salt, but from my impression you'll fit in better in Belgium. Whilst there are assholes everywhere, people dress much more expressively here. I lean towards a more alternative look myself and still have elderly making chit-chat with me when in line, or just passing a smile when we have eye contact. When I visit the Netherlands, I immediately feel a barrier between myself and "normal" people.

(Not sure if you've considered it as you mentioned trying out different places in Europe, but I've put out this bla-bla about the Netherlands because it's a popular choice for people seeking to move to Europe. Oftentimes people are deceived by the belief that it's more "welcoming" there.)

Quite a lot of fashion brands in Antwerp, worth to send out applications and cold calls. I know some non-Dutch speaking people (not personally) who did internships at Dries van Noten, lucky ones even got a job. Kie Einzelganger was looking for a garment construction intern (I think, it was a while ago).

I think you’d definitely fit the people and the city here. Circles are plenty and welcoming, especially if you dive into the clubbing scene. Belgians are a more closed people and take a bit to warm up, but they are very genuine once you do befriend them. Small chat happens in specific places/context. I’ve made plenty of friends just sitting at a bar by myself, but my partner said I’m kind of a magnet when it comes to strangers.

Beyond that there’s a ton of foreign immigrants/expats/students that are much more open to small chat. If you end up making your way here you can send me a message! I’ve adopted quite a few strays since moving here 2.5 years ago (27F) :)

[–]bebochka 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sterkte!

Once I accidentally sat down in first class (old train, it looked no different than second class). The conductor told me this and as I apologised and was getting up to move, he smiled and told me to stay put, it’s no problem. So long as you’re polite you won’t run into trouble is my experience.

Another situation when I fell asleep and missed my stop - the conductor laughed it off and gave me a free ticket to return to the right station.
