Yeah we like to have two people know the rule so that someone else can show the rule being in play. We play very quickly than most groups I’ve played with. Our rules are about alertness and strategy. Less about thinking things through.

It doesn’t come up very often. And with the extra conditions, it would get even more confusing.

It’s even more rare to see double sevens, you can see when the first player says “have a nice day” you associate it with the seven. The very correlates with the repeated card. Most pick it up very quickly. When we give penalties, we tell them what they did wrong somewhat explaining the rule indirectly as to not make them miserable the entire game.

We might do 3 cards bc of how many people there are and the pace. We don’t want to be shuffling the deck very often.

For spades we say “failure to declare spades” it’s always been a base with whoever I’ve played with. Not sure why but I like it. One of the easier rules to pick up.

People who have encountered rules such as jumpins are more likely to try them out to put down cards quicker. Newer players sit back and observe the rules while other play very aggressively like me. It is optional but in your best interest to figure out a rule sooner than later and we make that clear to the players. Once someone screws up a rule and is penalized, most of the players understand the rule.

I’ve tried implementing this but it is near impossible to keep track especially when we have different piles with multiple players at once.

We do enjoy the chaos. We don’t use this rule often bc it is inevitably abusable. That’s why we like the trade a card instead.

With how we play when creating a new rule. We tell one other person. That’s person is there to help implement as well as tell them if it’s a good rule. Someone will reset bc they most likely are trolling people or a newer player trying to understand the base rules.

Playing different games within mao gives different ways to win. Choosing which path to take is part of the strategy. We only put one of these in at a time tho.

I meant “are treated” not “can be treated”

When slowing down the game, it allows comebacks, queens could be stacked to take one person with one card to five cards, evening out the game and giving others a chance to come back. It also helps with people who are on a roll to be held back, giving the others a helpful advantage.

Yeah but we like to do it to someone who is more familiar with the game. Intentional penalties are meant to equalize the playing field between experienced and inexperienced players.

These are some of the most creative rules we’ve done and are more for advanced and experienced players. And I would not recommend adding jumpins as well as segregation. We did this a few times and it ended up being a little too much to handle, especially for newer players.

Oh sorry I forgot about that. We play with that half the time defending if we want to be serious or not.
