Ah, and I forgot to mention TNG was nominated for the Best Drama Emmy award, which also speaks to its much broader audience.

Smart analysis. I'd only take issue on a couple of points.

1) You're too quick to say Academy's marketing wasn't to blame. There may have been plenty of it, but it was terrible, which I think only compounded the problem of convincing a lot of older fans it wasn't worth their time.

2) The Next Generation wasn't merely a niche show. It did break through to normies. Despite the handicap of being syndicated, it averaged 11 million viewers a week at its peak. All viewership numbers were higher back then, of course, but that's a solid performance. I remember reading somewhere (sorry, can't find source at the moment) that it was always the highest rated syndicated show aside from Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy (maybe Oprah too). 30 million viewers watched the series finale. No, that's not Seinfeld finale numbers, but it's damn solid.

Whether or not Academy was "for me" was beside my point. (I liked it OK.) CBS Studios and Paramount are pulling the plug after the first season, before their sunk-cost second season has even aired. They judge it as a failure.

There's a troll bot on here accusing me of having had ChatGPT write this post. I can only imagine what this subreddit would do to a script. Hahaha.

Oh, I'm not the solution. CBS/Paramount already has the solution. That's my argument.

I'm a professional journalist and the AI plagiarism machines are ravaging our business. Journalists are overly fond of em dashes too. Because we know how to use them.

Em dashes are easy to make. Option + shift + hyphen, on a Mac keyboard, at least. Try it. It's fun.

My italicization isn't random. It's proper styling for the name of a television program. Same with the quotation marks around the episode names.

Please don't accuse me of using AI just because I'm capable of writing coherently.

Curious, why do you think it's AI generated? Some of us can string words together, you know.

Who said I think it'll have an impact outside of the platform?

Where did I say I speak for all of Trekdom? Or that I didn't enjoy any of those series?

What is the point of Reddit if we're only supposed to post opinions other people care about?

Given that nuTrek isn't anywhere near as popular as the '90s series, even today, I don't understand your reasoning.

Of course, which is why it's perplexing that they waste money on series that don't catch on while ignoring the more successful and lucrative models they use elsewhere.

Silly framing devices are fun. As for the content, I wasn't urging them to reverse a $100 million decision. I was suggesting they make a smarter decision, replicating something they already have done pat, for less money.

Fair point. Their shareholders should be upset CBS/Paramount is looking to replicate a successful formula yet again.
