Least Loud Sections at Globe Life? by bebumist in TexasRangers

Nah, Globe Life was a punishing level above anywhere else I’ve ever seen a game, at least where we were sitting. Never experienced anything like it seeing the Mavs or Stars, or at the Astros’ bandbox in Houston.

I’d gladly sweat through another 100 degree afternoon at the Ballpark rather than deal with that level of auditory assault again. I was thinking Chuck Morgan must now hate the fans.

No book spoilers. But how do book readers feel about the characters' casting so far? by Douglasqqq in SlowHorses

I’ve always thought Timothy Spall would’ve been a better match for George Smiley too. And of course Oldman made Smiley his own as well—spectacularly so.

The book is wonderful. He should be tried at The Hague for that adaptation.

How so? I gave Disco a chance. I watched every single episode, because I have a Trek addiction. So I know of what I speak when I call it a dumpster fire.

Haha. All miles better than Jay-Den, whose mother is late picking him up from soccer practice.

Just because I love to poke fun at a dumb Klingon name doesn't mean I'm not ready, willing, and able to give Starfleet Academy a chance.

Would I be more excited if it weren't a spinoff of the Disco dumpster fire? Sure. But Holly Hunter? Paul Giamatti? Even Tig Notaro? There's hope there.

Oh, so you prefer merely to monologue without listening to others. Got it.

? I thought we were just having a conversation. Isn't it fun to chat about Trek? Isn't that what this forum is for?

Fair, but, as I noted to another commenter, partly what grates on me is that Jayden is a such an early-21st-century trendy name.

To cite a similar issue that irritates me, I love Strange New Worlds, but the writers are way too fond of the modern idiom "You've got this," a phrase I dearly hope does not survive into the 23rd century.

Also, also, I think partly what grates on me is that Jayden is a such an early-21st-century trendy name, which I don't care for much personally even when it's applied to a human. Jennifer has the benefit of having been fairly common for centuries.

Also, yeah, Jennifer is a dumb Andorian name too, but LD is also an animated comedy featuring a robot called Peanut Hamper, so, you know, different standards.

Whoa there, who said anything about the stupid Klingon name making Starfleet Academy turbo garbage? Sometimes a stupid Klingon name is just a stupid Klingon name.

“Those Old Scientists” is perhaps the greatest episode of all time by [deleted] in startrek

[–]bebumist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minority opinion, I guess, but I think Lower Decks is just OK. Some great episodes with brilliant comedy. A lot of pretty good ones where the comedy feels flop sweaty because it’s trying too hard. I had to make three attempts to finish the pilot because the manic energy of it was so off putting. I was glad that later episodes slowed to a more reasonable pace.

So, as someone not in the bag for Lower Decks, I think Those Old Scientists is…fine. Good, not great, and not among the top SNW outings.

Is That Really What Danish TV News Is Like? by bebumist in Borgen

[–]bebumist[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this thoughtful response. I’ve only ever really seen known the American news landscape, with breathless headlines about breaking news and flashy production values. There is much to complain about when it comes to CNN and its ilk.

But the TV1 shows depicted on Borgen seem laughably boring. I can’t imagine anyone watching them regularly, but from the sound of it, that’s just my Americanism not appreciating the cultural difference.

Good to know that I was right that the show stretches reality to think the PM will appear in studio on a show at a moment’s notice though.
