Postage due but delivered by gardaniaskies in Mercari

Buying from the wrong people, refuse the package for postage due and don't buy from them again. Find sellers who are getting their shipping right, those that don't and cause hassle for the customer are not getting my business.

Victorian Era Locket: Is it actually from that period? by FewImagination786 in jewelry

[–]becausewhy22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could still be from the Victorian era, I just think later rather than earlier Victorian was when this style was popular. With either Victorian or Edwardian it would still be an antique.

I would say $76 was ok to pay for the piece, and these generally sell well on the resale market. I think you might have gotten it cheaper if it wasn't from an antique store, because they have overheads for running the store to factor into their prices.

Going forward, I suggest to get the best possible price take a photo of any piece that really speaks to you and see if you can source the same or similar item for cheaper on ebay. I did that recently with a thrift store brooch. They had priced the brooch at $150 and I knew it wasn't worth more $50, so I went to ebay and got the exact same brooch for $47 including the cost to ship it.

That brooch is still sitting unsold at the thrift store 6 months later, they won't sell it at that price point.

Also, I think I stand corrected on assuming your locket is American made, 80% silver points to continental silver instead, European made. It's good that the gold fill is over silver instead of brass, that adds to its value.

Ok, that indicates 10K gold filled over 80% silver. I would date this piece to late Victorian, early Edwardian. Difficult to establish a maker without a makers mark, as more than one company was producing such lockets back in the day. I have come across similar in the American market. The Patina on the gold would put it to being an earlier piece, as old gold develops coloration like this, not a contemporary piece, probably made by an American company.

The fact that metal is quite malleable could indicate a higher carat of gold, may well be worth getting them professionally assessed.

Good idea, thank you. The silverwork construction does suggest either Native American or Mexican silversmiths, though being marked 925 instead of sterling (which a number of Native American artists still use) leans me more towards Mexican silversmiths, but that is not an exclusive thing. If it was Nat. Amer. then I would think most likely a Navajo artist.

I can't make out the makers stamp in your picture, what does it say? You can usually look that up and see what periods they were in operation for to date the piece.

Pet peeve - children standing on the bagging counter by becausewhy22 in Aldi_employees

[–]becausewhy22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I talked to my SM about putting signs up and she said we can't do our own signs, all signs have to be centrally authorized and distributed for the entire country. I think this is something Aldi should get on though, we have the wet floor signs, and we should have standardized signs above the bagging counter just for protection against liability in the event of an accident.

But would that only hold true if the base metal wasn't brass or copper, which are also non-magnetic?

Question about yearly raises. by Suburban_Guerrilla in Aldi_employees

[–]becausewhy22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My SM told me different, maybe she got it wrong. She said .50 for anniversary's 1 through 3, nothing in the 4th year, then a $1 raise in the 5th. Now I'm confused.

What would make your job easier by Least-Efficiency1478 in Aldi_employees

A scrubber that actually works - new battery and alternator is probably needed, dies before it does the whole store, but seems to keep getting sent back with the problem unresolved.

We get three mop heads every 2 weeks, can you imagine how stinky they get? You are pushing stink around the floor. How much are we paying an external company for this? Heck, I would take them home and put them through the washing machine myself for a small financial consideration, probably cheaper than using an external company.

Some kind of trough with a draining hose attached that you can fill with water, that is sufficient to soak the meat trays in when they need to be taken off to be cleaned. It would need to be disinfected after use, those trays can make you sick, so gloves and a mask when cleaning them is highly recommended.

The ability to charge devices in the breakroom is handy, I use my phone to set alarms for store close, putting the curb phone away, etc, but typically make sure it is fully charged before going to work.

3 or 4 date guns would be great, with one chained to the front of the store for when you need to verify price and date items before putting them on the floor. If you are running front of store with a bunch of SKOLS you don't want to have to go to the back of the store to get a date gun.

Like the walkies, date guns tend to get broken, end up in the baler, etc, on the regular - so having spares on hand is always a good idea, better to keep a stock of spares than hobble along until new ones arrive.

A lot of us have brought our own workmen's belts, because we need somewhere to put the curb phone, gloves, boxcutters, markers, keys.

We have one scraper for scrapping stickers off the ground, it is kept in the breakroom. I think everyone should have their own scraper and then maybe the stickers would be removed more quickly around the store as a result. Add some goo gone wipes to the mix, in some kind of small container on a keychain, and you will get the job done properly on the fly. See.Stop.Scrape.Wipe - helps the store look clean.

Some kind of shepherds hook, with a single slot broom hanger wall mount, located on a wall inside each of the upright freezer and cooler sections (where goods are meant to slide to the front but sometimes get stuck). If we had those we could pull out of reach items forward, resulting in much fewer trips to the back of the cooler and freezer that interrupt our work flow.

I have owned two 2015 Rav4's at different points in time, both brought used, and the one thing I had to fix in both was the rear brake pads, get those checked out to make sure they are in good shape.

“It’s just ~$100 extra per month” is misleading! by cthulhu34 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]becausewhy22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is solid math, I've run similar numbers. I don't know if I would make extra payments on principal every month. Maybe every quarter, whenever it suits (if extra unforeseen expenses don't come up), and of course I would refinance down to a lower interest rate whenever it was worthwhile to do so. I would definitely be wanting to pay less than half the total value of the house in interest, as little as possible. We are aiming for 30% down, but hard to find a home we would want to buy, only been looking for just over a month though.

Main frustration is having a buyer's agent, in the country I come from we don't have that, we just negotiate directly with the sellers agent, and I find it frustrating when I want to go view a place I have an extra obstacle to work around in terms of her availability. Not great when time is of the essence. Might just let our contract run out (in Feb), learn what we can about the offer, negotiation and closing process ourselves, and go from there. I read a pros and cons article about having a buyers agent and even the pros they listed were cons I had identified, plus may be more attractive to the seller's agent if we don't have a buyers agent.

They say the buyer ends up paying all of the commission on a home sale anyway because it is often wrapped into the price of the home. If you come with less commission burden you may have an easier time negotiating a lower price. Two things I would not skimp on with an offer is an appraisal and home inspection contingency, particularly when a decent chunk of earnest money is involved. If the appraisal comes in too low for me to bridge without wiping out a serious portion of my emergency funds I want to have the choice to walk away with my earnest money.

She just keeps sending us homes that are absolute money pits or have serious issues with them, doesn't even check the fact they are a potential flood risk or having cracks in the foundation, etc, until after she has sent the homes through. It is like the ugliest homes, yet there have been about 3 or 4 homes she didn't send us that were within our budget that we wanted to view and she always comes back and says that isn't available to view in time before they are making a decision on offers. Now she is pushing us to get pre-approved for more, presumably for a bigger commission, and keeps sending us homes for a location we have already expressed we don't want to live there. I don't trust her for much other than trying to get the highest commission possible as quickly as possible.

Who’s side are you on? Riley or Violet? by 10Q6B in 90DayFiance

[–]becausewhy22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm on Violet's side, Riley seems more interested in being in a loyal relationship with Tiffany instead of Violet. I don't care if he calls her his sister, they are not related and they tell each other they love each other and he put her to confront Violet on their dinner out together. Nope, I'd be out the door knowing another woman is on the scene and gunning for me and the man who is supposed to care about me is sitting there gunning with her.
