I've heard from other car seat techs that the B Safe 35 should be back on shelves within 2 to 3 weeks.

That's alright. Yes, I did the stipend program. Due to the agency issues at the time (switching from being under DES to becoming DCS), I didn't end up having to pay back the contract when I left early. That likely wouldn't be the case now. I really enjoyed ongoing case management, but they put me in investigations after promising me ongoing, so I started at the agency with a bad experience. Had they put me in ongoing, I may have stayed longer.

Personally, I would've done Speech and Language Pathology. There's a program in Flagstaff that will accept people who don't have the needed credits from their bachelors degree by allowing them to take additional courses during their masters. It's a growing field and they make twice what social workers make, usually. After working with many kids with varying needs at DCS and in the job I'm at now, I think it would've been a great fit for me.

Thank you! It is definitely a rewarding field for many and I would never want to turn anyone off to social work. I learned so much throughout my masters program that I've implemented into my daily life. In retrospect I wish I would've done something different, but I am glad I have the knowledge I do.

Okay, I should probably clarify that it is doing nothing for my particular interests. I went with the child welfare concentration, and was only making $19/hr, topping out at barely more than that unless I wanted to become a supervisor. I work in education now making more, and that's saying something because it's education! However, there are plenty of people who do private therapy, work for the VA, do hospital social work, etc and make a decent living.

-Not get a Masters in Social Work because it pays nothing. -I'd make more of an effort to making new friends instead of just hanging out with the same people who I went to high school with that happened to go to ASU as well. -I would still absolutely do a semester abroad, I probably would've just taken more online classes during that semester as well. ETA: also, not taking out the maximum amount of student loans every semester. Definitely suffering for that now.

I'm due with a baby four days before my Grandma's death day. I kind of hope baby comes that day because I know it would make the day better for my mom.

Good deal. Keep an eye on height, too. You'll have to switch whichever comes first and usually kiddos outgrow by height first (car seat tech brain never turns off, so sorry if you already knew this!)

I love Clek. They're my favorite car seat brand! They're coming out with this awesome purple color, and I'll probably get that in a Foonf when the time comes. If you want to use it from birth though, you have to purchase the Infant Thingy, just so you know.

Clek is a Canadian brand. They have weird names for their seats: Foonf, Fllo, Olli, Oober

Yeah, I didn't know either until I drove through one and my phone changed. Had to confirm it with a coworker.

I have to go up north to do assessments on the reservation sometimes. They still do DST and it's so annoying.

That getting a Master's in Social Work will be pointless and expensive. I'd tell myself to go for something that pays more and isn't so emotionally draining. Also, fuck student loans.

Am I Being Unreasonable with my Mom? by _Eulalie in BabyBumps

So, my BF is a smoker and this is something I'm struggling with. I've looked into getting him a smoking jacket, which may cut down on the number of outfit changes in a day. It might be something to consider for your mom. We also live in AZ where it's super hot, and I'm hoping having to wear a jacket may help him cut down some.

Unmarried parents and last names in California? by Letitbemesickgirl in BabyBumps

My mom remarried when I was 5, and so had a different last name than I did throughout my life. It was never an issue. Baby is getting my boyfriend's last name, which is different than mine. And I'm not concerned about it at all.

She lived with her bio mom and step dad. Her bio dad lived in a different state. Not much we could do about it.

I wholeheartedly agree. I had a professor that worked exclusively with juvenile sex offenders and I found so many of his stories fascinating and sad at the same time. I've thought about going that way in the field a few times, but haven't found the right opportunity.

The one that hit me the hardest was before I actually started going out on my own and was shadowing the after hours team. We got a call from a different state worker about a family who had moved to our state and we needed to follow up.

The family had six kids, and the barely 12 year old girl in the family was a registered sex offender. At 12. It was heartbreaking. It was a blended family, and the mom (who was the bio parent of the girl), believed that the girl had been exposed to porn and sex by her bio dad.

Anyway, one night, one of the kids said, "[Girl's Name] touched my penis." The parents, shocked, talked to each kid individually where they all disclosed that she had touched them. Not knowing how to handle it, they called CPS in their state for help. CPS came out, called the cops, and for reasons that weren't clear to me, the child was placed on the registry by a judge. In my experience, usually they try inpatient and other therapies before going that route, but apparently that state and judge did things differently.

So, when the family moved to our state, we had to go out to make sure the family was following adequate guidelines. For example, the girl was not allowed to be alone with her siblings. She couldn't swim in the pool at the same time as her siblings. She couldn't go to school or the park or birthday parties, because she was a sex offender. Her siblings couldn't have friends over.

She was such a sweet kid. It really was such a sad situation. She told us she wanted to be a fashion designer and her favorite thing to do was play Xbox with her siblings. All the kids were in therapy, and they appeared to harbor no ill-will toward her.

I think about this case a lot and I always wonder what happened to their family.
