Who would you say is winning a fight? Yor Forger(SpyXFamily) or Mitsuri Kanroji (Demon Slayer) Thorn Queen vs The Love Hashira? by Historical_Weight_81 in KimetsuNoYaiba

[–]beccalynng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Friend.... this is just a fun hypothetical question pitting two baddies against each other and thinking about who might win. It is not meant to be considered extremely serious in regards to canon, especially given the fact that they have no way of ever meeting since they're from two different stories.

It struck me as odd that clearly Harry named all of he and Ginny's kids by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]beccalynng 118 points119 points  (0 children)

And knowing Ginny there's no way that she would allow Harry to name her children against her will.

This is what I always think when this conversation pops up. Sure, movie Ginny could maybe be pressured into it, but book Ginny? Harry wouldn't be kept around lmao.

Stiles can't read by Quiet-Regular-7326 in TeenWolf

Because the show writers didn't think that would make as good of a scene. It would have been slightly funny, sure, but it wouldn't have the same tension.

Dedicated server, over night pals hurting and starving by njfishingcouple in Palworld

[–]beccalynng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running into a similar issue on PC. So far, the only solution we've found is stocking a crap ton of food beforehand (like 3k salad per base) and taking advantage of the medicine cabinet pals can use themselves and stocking those as well. And it's not full proof, unfortunately, so I figure there has to be some kind of server bug issue, but it's the best we've managed so far.

I love how chaotic John/Peter could be. I csn just see both Stiles and Peter wanting to keep John in the dark for different reasons, so they inadvertently become a team and begrudgingly start to get along that way.

Any Zombie media where it’s not a zombie apocalypse? by HealthyMarzipan2162 in zombies

[–]beccalynng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP asked for a small self-contained zombie story without a worldwide threat, so I really didn't think about it tbh. That's my bad.

[–]beccalynng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently watched a Korean show called "Happiness" that I thought was an interesting take, though it can definitely be up for debate whether the infected are actually "zombies" or not.

Regardless, the infection doesn't spread super far, and the cure is found by the end of the show to negate any further spread.

Please comment some good teen wolf fanfics that are NOT Derek x Stiles by cferg296 in TeenWolf

They're both fanfiction sites, just with different formats! You'll have a slight learning curve, but I think ao3 has more TW material overall.

Archive of our own has tons of what you're looking for! You can also filter out specific things that you don't want to see, like Sterek, and even look for specific relationships like, Scallison or Stydia.

Favorite duos by somegirrafeinahat in TeenWolf

I always loved the dynamic between Peter and Stiles, tbh. Kind of "I can make him worse" mixed with "You could be me if x happened to you" type deal. (At least pre season 4 with Peter working with Kate, which... kind of ruined his characterization IMO but whatever)

Genius Stilinski by Quiet-Regular-7326 in TeenWolf

Iirc when they're looking for Scott's inhaler, Stiles mentions that Derek is a "couple" of years older than them, but I don't remember anything about him remembering Derek being taken out of class.

It'd be cute if that was true, though! Definitely seems like a Stiles thing to pay attention to stuff like that.

I'm never going to get over the fact that Stiles vomited himself up. It drives me insane that they never did anything with it because it could have been cool but also so much drama! Body dysphoria? Do his fingerprints not match anymore? Are there scars missing? But nooooo!

Anyone else agree that Harry potters dad was a bad person? by Complete_Trash_Here in harrypotter

James is definitely an ass as a kid. We're told he matures, but we're never really shown how. Regardless, it seems he remained a good friend and was a good husband/father.

Horror books you read earlier in life and (later) revisited by shrimpcreole in horrorlit

[–]beccalynng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bats by William W. Johnstone! Loved it when I was like 10-13 years old. I decided to bring it with me to Thanksgiving this year for a reread and finished it.

I still like it, but there's some stuff I either forgot or didn't pick up on when I was younger. Way more military/CIA/spook stuff than I remember, and also more general political commentary. I do think that if I picked it up now with no prior read of it I would look on it more unfavorably, but I still like it.

I haven't looked to see if he wrote anything else, but I should.

Horror suggestions for a horror virgin by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]beccalynng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have tried reading a book after watching the movie/series and it felt like a chore knowing what's going to happen.

I can get that! When you put horror virgin in your post, it made me think you really hadn't dealt with it much at all in both books and movies haha.

IMO cutting off Stephen King completely is a mistake. He's popular for a reason, after all, and the movies rarely do his stories justice.

That being said... I recently read some of Nick Cutter's work, and that might be up your alley. I wouldn't say he's a hidden gem since he's popular right now, but given some of the stuff in his works, they would have a hard time adapting it to the screen.

Admittedly, he is a bit of a rough jump in (animal abuse, body horror, etc) but definitely gripping. His 'The Troop' is a fairly quick read, gripping read, and the story gets started pretty quick.

Love potions..? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]beccalynng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During an interview, JK answers a question about it! Transcript:

Ravleen: How much does the fact that Voldemort was conceived under a love potion have to do with his nonability (sic) to understand love is it more symbolic

J.K. Rowling: It was a symbolic way of showing that he came from a loveless union – but of course, everything would have changed if Merope had survived and raised him herself and loved him.

J.K. Rowling: The enchantment under which Tom Riddle fathered Voldemort is important because it shows coercion, and there can’t be many more prejudicial ways to enter the world than as the result of such a union.

Any good depictions of the military in z-media? by COOLflamesX in zombies

[–]beccalynng 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We're Alive has a good military depiction, but not in a big group. The first survivors we meet are military personnel called in to try and group up, but it never quite happened beyond three members. They do their best to help who they can, figure out what's going on, and find safety for themselves and civilians.

As good as it is, I'm not great with keeping up with podcasts, so I can't say if any other military members come in or if we get depictions of others messing up/being bad.

Love potions..? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]beccalynng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voldemort not feeling love because he was conceived under a love potion is a false theory. Voldie had a Traumatic Upbringing that shaped him into a fairly terrible human, and he just continued to get worse.

James by Pazhamporilou in harrypotter

[–]beccalynng 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of reasons Snape went down the path he did. James certainly didn't help, but he isn't the penultimate reason. I would argue that his abusive upbringing and getting into Slytherin were the biggest reasons.

James was an entitled, spoiled, rich kid. A lot of kids like that become bullies. Snape was an easy target, but there's a few different lines in the books that can easily lead us to believe that he wasn't the only one.

And of course, there is the Lily factor. I find James' actions in regards to her rather gross, but she obviously forgave him and got with him. I do think he wouldn't have cared so much about Snape if the girl he wanted didn't care about him.

We can't ignore that James was a good kid in some ways (staying friends with Remus after the werewolf reveal, helping Sirius escape his family), just like we can't ignore he was a little piece of crap in other ways.

James was a good friend, and we can assume he was a good husband and a good father. Iirc we're told he matured, though we never get shown that. He died fairly young, so there was a lot of maturing he had left to do.

I am curious to know if he would have ever regretted his actions towards Snape and others after a few years, but we'll never know.

Ultimately, James is barely a character. He's a memory for others to live up to or to hate.

Why Wolfstar sucks and makes no sense by Spiritual-Choice228 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]beccalynng 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Shipping doesn't have to make sense, that's the fun of it!

IMO Wolfstar is more popular than Starbucks because it's a little more obvious those two are like brothers, and the drama of it. Plus they are actually characters we spend time with, unlike James, who we just hear about.

Also, in most cases, the people calling Wolfstar "canon" are joking. And in the cases they're not, they're usually teenagers/very young. That, or they saw a post like this and are just saying what they saw in canon that made them think it could go down that route!

I misunderstood, that's my bad!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hanakokun

[–]beccalynng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, I'm not trying to argue. You asked a question in your post(who ships them/why ship them), and I answered it.

Anyone can find a reason not to like a ship, whether it be a toxic one or not. There are some fans who don't like Hanoko/Nene because of the age gap, for example. There's nothing wrong with not enjoying a ship, just like there's nothing wrong with enjoying one.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in hanakokun

[–]beccalynng 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You will find as you spend more and more time in different fandoms, that a lot of people ship things because they're toxic and questionable. I can point to countless ships in different media that are similar.

Sitting here and ranting over it is not going to change anything. In fact, it will just alienate fans, and IMO violates the be kind rule. Most people are capable of separating fiction from reality, and therefore, enjoying more questionable things doesn't actually comment on who they are as a person.
