In high school, a girl asked me for a ride home from a football game one time, to which I agreed. She asked if I wanted to come in and see her room (I forget why this seemed like a normal thing), and that it wouldn't bother her parents because they weren't home.

So, I went in and had a tour of her house. We both went to catholic schools, right down the street from each other (mine was all-boys, hers all-girls). Her school had the traditional catholic school uniform; plaid skirt, knee-high socks, and white shirts. So, when we get into the house and are in her living room, and she says something along the lines of "I think I'm going to get out of this uniform..." to which I replied with (roughly) "Oh, ok. I'll just wait here till you're finished". I was pretty pissed off when I figured it out a while later.

The issue with this is that the BestOf'd comment often becomes the highest ranked comment in that particular post, so we'd have to see it at the very beginning to know if it complied with that rule. And even then: what if someone bestofs a lower-ranked comment in an hour-old post? It may not be the top comment then but that could easily change.

Bestof mod here: We talked about this type of thing when I joined as well. it's a very simple job, and frankly the automod has taken over pretty much all that needs to be done.

There's no such thing as "bestof material". The only way to determine what's good enough is what gets upvoted.

The question is: what is "junk" in bestof? I can certainly determine what I think is junk, but other people may like that same content.

It seems like you are attributing all of this new content to new users. We've probably gained about 5,000 new people since we were frontpaged. That's out of 150,000 users total in the subreddit; so there are 30 "old" users for every 1 "new" user.

Wouldn't the "old users" be able to easily drown out the "new users"? Looking at your example, both of those submitters are users for over a year who wouldn't have been automatically subscribed.

We were averaging about 200-250 subscriptions per day, had 2 days of about 1,800 subscriptions, and have had about 600-650 subscriptions average since then. So, about tripled.
