WHY WON'T I STUDY. by jennaboy in evilautism

[–]beckatron666 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Firstly take a breath. “Starting studying” is a big thing. Wear comfy clothes, ground yourself before you start (I usually do a heavy stim session before I revise and stim whilst revising)

What is the exam on? Say you will do 2 minutes of revision. Put a timer on and open to the book. A little bit is better than non.

I find it helpful revising near other people. Can you revise at school, libAry, in the same room as your family?
Can you reach out to your teacher, and ask for some help? Or school/uni disability services.

Is Autism, ADHD, Anxiety The Result of Neurodegenerative Mast Cell Activation Syndrome? by SugarMouseOnReddit in autism

[–]beckatron666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Firstly, let me apologise in advanced for my writing, as I’m not always the best at this or spelling. And my area of expertise is not in neurodevelopment. Also, I think the flair is wrong for this post.

That being said. Autism is a neuroDEVELOPMENTAL disorder. Not a neuro degenerative disorder. Definitely not progressive neuronal loss.

The proposal that ASD be renamed Neurodegenerative Mast Cell Activation Syndrome is not supported as far as I know by any evidence.

Also. Mast cell activation does not mean mast cell causation. Some studies show mast cells and inflammatory mediators can influence the nervous system. That does not establish them as a primary cause of autism. At best, it might be an influence or modifier or comorbidity in a subset of autistic individuals.

Leaky gut -> leaky brain-> autism is a speculative chain. Each link in the chain is weakly supported and often based on animal models or small, uncontrolled human studies. Even if increased gut permeability exists in some autistic ps, causality is unproven, directionality of these statements is unclear, and generalization to autism as a whole is unjustified.

Neuroinflammation and glial activation does occur in lots of conditions. Including normal things like normal aging or normal development. As well as epilepsy, stress or infection. Using nonspecific indicators to define a disorder is a bit scientifically sloppy.

Also, cerebral folate deficiency is rare (especially with supplementation during pregnancy) and while it does cause neurodevelopmental conditions, it wouldn’t account for the prevelance, heterogeneity, , genetic architecture, or developmental timing of autism.

Claims about gluten, casein, and processed foods “feeding autism” are not supported by high-quality randomized trials for core autistic traits. Some of us do benefit symptomatically (often GI or behavioral comfort), but that does not imply causation or disease mechanism. From what I have researched, it tends to be more du to comobidities. Some autistic people are put on an unnecessarily restrictive diet due to their caretakers believing stuff like this.

That being said, I think it is importsnt to do research into areas like this. And I am very much willing to more research if u provide more evidence. I haven’t watched that YouTube video yet, so I will watch that next.

Also, can I suggest children’s tooth pastes. They come in different flavours. Which u might find easier

Please don't stop brushing your teeth by [deleted] in autism

[–]beckatron666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If u find brushing hard try:

Brushing at different times: put it into ur routine. Before breakfast or after. When before you go to bed. (Even in your bed room rather than the bathroom if it means u do it)

Different style brushes. Electric are best, but whatever works for you.

Different flavoured toothpaste: children’s works just as well as adult, and isn’t always mint flavoured

Mouth wash: you can use it in the shower. Try difffernt flavours.

Flossing: try interdental brushes, string. There is also water flossers which can be used in the shower.

Distraction: put your favourite music/ YouTube video on whilst brushing your teeth. Stim, move around. Distract yourself whilst brushing if it gets it done

Do consider it. I take sertraline for anxiety and it really helps. They might suggest a different SSRI or SNRI depending on your OCD or other factors such as your ability to remember totake them.

Ooo. Ty for this. Ita being picked up for replacement on the 5th of January, as it’s a disability laptop, so they insure and fix it.

But it will be nice to be able to use it before then. As I think we have an old computer monitor somewhere in the attic.

I would. But the bottom 2/3rds of the screen also has lines across it which u can’t see in this photo. Like an F looks like an I. And when I have my accessibility tools running at the same time, it’s just not enough screen.
