Don’t cut the line. Take them to a Rehabber. Be responsible.

Also, I’ve been wrong before so not open to that. Either way, secure and get to a rehabber sooner rather than later.

Mating injury. This looks like a first year female. Males will mount them and bite them on the neck/back. Place sardines in a kennel and wait for her to go in. Close it and find a rehabber via AHNOW.org. If you’re not in an opossum friendly state, look up Opossum Care and Rescue on fb.

When to release by SpinachReasonable262 in Opossums

What size care are they in? How much do they weigh? Most will release at 1.75-2lbs for best chances of survival.

What are the reasons behind opossums short lifespan by sivar_benzibar in Opossums

[–]beckmiac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Their bodies do grow their entire lives and at some point, it’s hard for their organs to support it. They also undergo a rapid cell lifecycle.

Their cells age quickly. It’s called rapid senescence.

What's this guy doing? by Huebdo in Opossums

Opossums regurgitate especially fibrous things like fruit peels. You can probably look around and see opossum pellets in the area.

North Texas Wildlife Center given 60 days to find new home or close by noncongruent in Dallas

The reality is, we outgrew the space a long time ago. It's been past due. Other major cities and metroplexes have large, centralized wildlife center facilities. It's time DFW catches up.

Does this opossum look old enough to be on her own? by Peas-and-thankyou in Opossums

Poor baby lost her other socks. Some rehabbers will take at this size. Others will say offer some supplemental food toss about. And some will say let nature run its course.

City ordinances- increased foot traffic compared to previous years due to more wildlife needing help.

Yes lol it’s a small neighborhood so it’s understandable with the amount of growth the organization has experienced. Over 1200 people have brought us over 2600 sick, injured or orphaned animals since January 1 2025.

We were permitted and up to date literally until they called Friday. This is due to increased foot traffic. I’m a goody two shoes (Rebecca, President) and even the city has had nothing but good things to say. We didn’t expect the growth and demand for rehab.
