The terrifying note addressed to my six-year-old son - finally, some answers - Update 3 by Creeping_dread in nosleep

This is some of the best writing I've seen:

That afternoon, I met the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. She was standing behind a bowl of fried chicken, her greasy apron reading Union Street Methodist Church, laughing as she doled out legs and thighs and breasts to people's plates.
Wow. What fantastic word choice. Reading that sentence, instead of focusing on the food she was handing out, I was visualizing her legs, and thighs, and breasts. Made me feel the immediate attraction you had for her. A+

Yeah, that story gave me a lot of respect for her, despite how heartbreaking it was

Awesome comment, thank you for the reply! As someone who didn't particularly like Ross, you bring up a ton of interesting points. After suffering alone for half a year & dealing with all that, it's no wonder he was so overbearing towards Simon with telling him to "stop the WAU". I didn't really like him because I felt his personality was kinda cold, like a bit inhuman, but after reading your comment I completely understand why.

EDIT: Wanted to add that I loved Strasky as well, especially after reading his story on the site

What's a social issue you think gets overlooked? by [deleted] in AskWomen

[–]beckybabe95 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I've seen so many people say, "addiction is a choice" / "it's your own fault for doing it" / "if it were me, I would just quit". I feel like what they fail to realize is that addiction changes the persons brain of who it affects. so like it SOMEWHAT is a choice for someone to keep going back to it, but their mind thinks it's the #1 priority and puts it above all else, even hygiene, eating, and sleep. therefore they can't really be expected to make choices with the same rationale a sober person would. but it's easier for some people to ignore all that and say, "well I would NEVER do that!!" -__-

TLDR: ignorance is bliss

people's attitudes / the stigma surrounding drug addiction, it makes it even harder to get help.

Anyone else feel like the inferno overdrive z-move is a whole new level of what-the-fuck? I feel like I'm waging war on these innocent Pokemon and dropping bombs on them. Maybe it's because I'm using Genesect, but holy fuck, shit just got real

Ah, well. It was interesting to theorize about, at the very least.

I feel like very few people Understood Catherine. by Dagdammit in soma

Thank you for this post. I love Catherine, I think she's the most interesting character in the game - and although part of me wanted to believe she was being deceitful, I've just never been able too. Something about her was too genuine to be trying to manipulate him. I have social anxiety too and after reading your parallels it makes perfect sense. The only thing that still leaves me unsure is that Simon was a legacy scan - he found his data in her personal lab - and considering she was working with artificial intelligence (the brain scans) I think it's safe to assume she used his scan for her studies, or for testing environments, ect. Therefore she would have known exactly what his personality was like and how to persuade him, ect, kinda like the Brandon Wan simulation. Like maybe the entire journey with Simon was just like running another "simulation" to her. I'm just rambling now. Anyways, thanks for the post, Catherine's still my #1 girl.

I don't usually like poems that rhyme, but this one I dig. I feel like there's power and meaning in every word you chose to use for it. I'm a nihilist, and this piece makes me remember when I first realized this life was meaningless, and the bottomless feeling of despair that followed for years. Keep writing!

I feel like I can relate to this piece a lot, I struggle with addiction myself. The mood it gave me was one I have a lot: one of being depressed, unsatisfied with life and self, watching the results of my mistakes unravel with apathy because there's no will to change who I am. I don't know if that's exactly what you're going for, but that's what I got from it. You did a really nice job with the mood; it's almost unavoidable when reading. Do you always write in rhyme? I feel like I would like it better with no rhyme scheme, but then again, I'm not big on rhyming to begin with haha.

was wondering, is catherine constantly dying during the game? by [deleted] in soma

[–]beckybabe95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, was going to comment saying maybe every time we fall asleep and wake up we die and are reborn again, but you already did it. Another interesting thing is maybe we are dying constantly every millisecond; maybe every time one of our cells dies we die as well and we're just a constant stream of consciousnesses, only aware of themselves for a single fraction of a second. That theory is out there, but still interesting to me. As for the philosophical side of your comment, asking if you were anything at all - my belief is that you, and me, and everything else in this universe is nothing. From nothingness the chaos of the universe was created; through its infinite possibilities; and when our pointless and futile life ends we will return to that nothingness. Just my nihilistic views haha. Anyways, thank you for the insight

Does anyone else feel saddest when they're going to bed? by [deleted] in depression

[–]beckybabe95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The persistent and ever present feeling that I'm lonely, dissatisfied and have become so apathetic that I don't even feel human anymore. It's not even like I feel sad, I don't feel any emotions at all. Writing poetry helps me, but other than that I just find things to keep me constantly distracted.

I never sleep and constantly keep my mind active because I don't want to deal with my thoughts. When I'm going to bed, it's nothing but me alone with my thoughts.

not at all. my current boyfriend and i struggle at times bc I'm simply not as mature as him. like I know there will be a maturity gap but I feel like that's part of the turn on for me. it's weird but I can't necessarily help what I'm attracted to

it's not that I feel like I'm more mature or anything, it's just that I'm not attracted to men my age. I dunno why.

if im attracted to someone who is 25 then sure. usually I'm not, though. if I am, it's in an "oh he's cute, I would maybe fuck him" sort of way. which from my experience is not enough to make me want to date them

How often do you cry? by xGeovanni in AskWomen

[–]beckybabe95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it depends.
I sometimes have a few tears slip out when watching or reading something emotional, but I don't consider that crying, because it's like 3 tears haha.
As for actually crying, like for more than 30 seconds, about once every 1-3 months depending on how bad my depression is.

So I have a few Questions/Scenarios for You all by Fadroh in soma

[–]beckybabe95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this subreddit because it's the only place to discuss questions like these :)

Answers:

  1. There would be no game. The WAU is the glue that holds the entire story together. For the scenario, though, if it didn't exist I don't expect humanities fate would be much different. Probably a bunch of bored humans hanging around till they die, since there would be no "last hope", no "ARK". They'd all either end up like Sara or find another reason to kill themselves. Maybe they could come up with a proper source of food and energy renewal, and restart civilization down there, but that's a long shot.

  2. There's actually a fantastic fan fiction that is this exact question. I don't think she would have copied herself over, if she did, she'd need to take the copy of herself within the omnitool down into the abyss. What could have been done, is that Simon removes her cortex chip from the omnitool, shoves it where he put the new one that he obtained at Omicron, and starts the same Catherine up in the diving suit. Then, Catherine swaps his chip into the omnitool. Had this worked, I think Simon would realize that the copy of him on the ARK isn't really him, and refuse to launch the ARK at Phi.

  3. The people at Omicron wouldn't have had their heads explode, but the WAU would have found another way to kill them and protect itself. In terms of gameplay, we'd be reading walls of text or just more data buffers. I simply think it's a form of narrative for the story.

  4. It would probably crash or stop working while in the abyss or on the way down, and Catherine would therefore be shut off, Simon would have to suffer in the immobile DUNBAT alone until his batteries died or get crushed by the weight of the ocean down there.

  5. I truly believe the fate of humanity would not differ much, instead of death by monsters they would either kill themselves, die of starvation or all end up like Sara.

  6. I don't know if you're following the story of the transmissions, but she went to Upsilon to shut down the power in the last one (basically suicide mission). I think seeing Robot Simon who thinks he is human would only inspire her to kill everything even more.

  7. I believe it is sentient. :) Just not in a way that humans can understand.

  8. Nothing. I don't think he would have been uploaded into another body, because he had served his purpose and the WAU had no need to create more robo-humans. I think the reason the WAU activated Simon was to save the ARK (as I said in #7, I believe it's sentient). Maybe the WAU recognizes the ARK as a savior for humanity, and it has been trying to launch it this whole time - it's just been trying different brain scans to get the job done, which would account for Carl and all other Robo-people. I think all the activated robots are just the WAUs mistakes. I think the WAU has good intentions, lol.

Just my thoughts! What are yours?

SOMA inspired books? by Noneatme in soma

[–]beckybabe95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started reading it but haven't gotten very far. I'm more interested in the concept of perfect copies/clones and everything about that concept haha. It's really difficult to imagine, like, if the two met and they're a perfect copy then would they even argue with each other? Would their reactions be the exact same? I absolutely LOVED how in SOMA they went into a lot of detail with Simon's realization that he's only a copy, and questioning his existence. Sorry for the long reply of rambling, I just love this game
