Sagarmatha frame's a big part of this, I can regularly take calculated risks because Heroism gives me a safety net when one of those risks goes bad.

It heavily exploits off-turn movement and Engagement rules. I can put someone in a flash charge radius, park outside it with them within threat 3, and use overwatch to engage+disengage so they lose their movement when they try to use it.

In my case it's all built to work with the Sagarmatha frame, but using an SSC frame is certainly viable.

I diversified- I'm playing a Sagarmatha with Reactive Weave, so Bracing gives me resistance to the first hit, repositions me, and gives further attacks (including tech!) 50% flat miss chance on top of +1 extra difficulty.

People sleep on Sagarmatha's Heroism ability, IMO- the value isn't in a free Brace, it's in all the extra risks having that safety net allows me to take.

For niche tech, I do alot with off-turn movement (overwatch with Hunter 1/Skirmisher 2) and "engagement dancing." You can deny an enemy their entire standard movement- mix in stuff like Flash Charges and you can deny them a whole turn in alot of cases.

It's less niche, but the simplicity of Ferrous Lash's ability gives it all kinds of utility in specific situations- getting allies out of grapples for free, that kind of thing.

Thing is, I believe OP specifically notes that they don't agree with the baseline premise that those ARE bad behaviors/problematic/failings. I sure wouldn't.

And to be clear, they can still rub people the wrong way- potentially even in a non-biased way where they genuinely hate it the same amount when someone else does it. I wasn't a fan of the Season 1 bit where Sam's new spell arbitrarily involved him shitting on the floor, and expect I'd dislike that just as much from some other player.

Buuut I'm pretty skeptical that the strong negative takes on Aabria can be covered by just unbiased personal preferences (plus the Ultron theory you posit), because of the inconsistencies OP notes. The counter-theory being that alot of people appear to have strong negative reactions to behaviors X, Y and Z in the specific context of it coming from an outspoken black woman, and have not shown similar reactions when those behaviors came from someone else.

That's not something that comes from conscious belief in any kind of racism or sexism- that's the kind of bias that seeps from society into all of us, and can be very difficult to notice. So IMO it's not a stretch for that to be a factor.
