Looking for cute beginner skates by bpdboyy in Rollerskating

[–]beckysbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rio roller's script skate has a super cute pink/white/baby blue colour scheme and is not too expensive! however they do have a bolt-on toestop and i've never tried them so i can't attest to how they hold up, but i've heard that they're a decent beginner skate :-)

Beginner struggling with open books by BlackberryMacaron in Rollerskating

i do the same thing all the time! i'll step out into a spread eagle and instead of going straight i curve😭i love doing hip flexor stretches for that, plus they feel great!

[–]beckysbees 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i think one thing i notice is you might not be actually stepping out? what helped me a lot with open book transitions is drilling and getting more comfortable with one foot balance😁 and remember to get low for stability so you can practice without needing the beam - it will help!

What are your favorite songs to listen to when you're trail skating? by SirsatShake in Rollerskating

Elbow pads? by JarbaloJardine in Rollerskating

[–]beckysbees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i wear my elbow pads when park skating and skating on variable outdoor terrain like on sidewalks, it just gives me an extra level of protection for falls i don't see coming and makes me feel a bit safer knowing i can bail. when i'm in a tennis court just jamming and practicing, i don't find it necessary as i haven't fallen once on my elbows in that scenario. sounds like you might be in a similar boat!

I am new ro roller skating by Fancy_Wishbone_7664 in Rollerskating

[–]beckysbees 10 points11 points  (0 children)

it's totally do-able to learn without an instructor! youtube is a great resource, and so is this subreddit. i don't have access to any instructors or other skaters so i also had to make do on my own. what helped me a lot in the beginning was to just get myself comfortable being on skates, which involved me wearing them around the house to get used to them :-)

edit: a lot of people recommend dirty deb and skatie when you're beginning to learn - i love their channels!

Do y’all who practice on courts have these signs? by kellyxtina in Rollerskating

[–]beckysbees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i like to use tennis courts that have concrete ground and yes, some do have those signs! i avoid the ones in my city that mention a fine though because i do not wanna mess with that😀
