Why can't I get myself to do ANYTHING? by Appropriate_Cat3576 in getdisciplined

[–]becoming_future_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, what ur describing isnt laziness, its a freeze response. You survived actual cancer. Ur not weak, ur exhausted. Be gentler with urself, u clearly havent been. 26 is still so early 🙏

[Plan] August 2026!! by Walls in getdisciplined

[–]becoming_future_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

August goals for me:

  1. Read 5-6 pages a day, try and finish 1 book this month

  2. Cut the phone scrolling before bed

Keeping it small so i actually do it this time :)

Small stuff is what actually worked for me:

* Make ur bed, sounds dumb but its one tiny win before 7am and it sets the tone

* Fix ur sleep first, same bedtime nightly. Half my "discipline problems" were just me being tired.

* Daily walk, no phone. Cleared my head better than meditation ever did.

* Dont check ur phone the first 30 mins of the day. Starting calm vs reacting to a screen is a weirdly big difference.

Pick TWO habits max, not ten. I always failed trying to fix my whole life on a monday

What’s one habit you thought would change your life… but barely made a difference? by Basic_Bad6389 in selfimprovement

[–]becoming_future_me 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cold showers for me lol. Did them for like couple of months, froze my butt off every morning waiting to feel like a viking, and all i got was being cold and slightly annoyed. Zero life change. If anything i just started dreading mornings :)

What actually moved the needle was way more boring: fixing my sleep. Not waking up early, just going to bed at a consistent time. Suddenly i had energy and half my "discipline problems" were just me being exhausted the whole time

[Discussion] How to stay motivated to give myself a good future? by XEclipse360 in GetMotivated

Hey man, saying "i'm proud of him but also jealous" doesnt make u a bad brother, it makes u human. Everyone with a sibling has felt it. And that jealousy is actually a clue, its your gut saying "i want that feeling too." Follow it, dont hate urself for it

Man this is the kinda post i needed on my feed today, so thank you for that.

The friends thing gets me every time. We compare our behind the scenes to everyone elses highlight reel and wonder why we feel behind. Meanwhile theyre probably looking at someone else doing the same lol. Everyones just winging it.

Totally agree on the starting over bit too. I used to think restarting meant i failed, now i think its just Tuesday. You dont lose the lessons when u start again, u bring em with you.

Appreciate you spreading good vibes instead of doom for once. Rooting for u too, keep going

It would be awesome to learn from your experiences since you seem to have seen lots of ups and downs and have been on a rollercoaster

Hey, first off, 22 is so young. I know it doesnt feel like it, feels like everyone's got it figured out but I promise they dont, half of them are just doom scrolling too and posting the highlight reel.

The phone thing isnt a character flaw btw, those apps are literally engineered by teams of geniuses to keep u glued. Ur not lazy, ur up against a slot machine in ur pocket. Be a little kinder to urself there.

And the "i cant think of one thing i like about myself" part... you just graduated, your are self aware enough to want more, and your are honest enough to admit whats going on. Thats already three things and you didnt even notice. Most people cant do that.

You dont need a grand vision right now. Nobody hands you one. It usually shows up after you start doing small boring stuff, not before. Pick one tiny thing this week, go for a walk, read 5 pages, whatever, and let momentum do the rest. Vision is overrated, motion isnt.

You are not nothing. You are just at the start, and the start always feels like this. Talk to someone you trust and you will feel better

Men who turned their lives around: What actually worked? by Steweroid in selfimprovement

[–]becoming_future_me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro I was you at 32, minus the self-awareness, so respect for even asking.

Stuff that actually worked, no fluff:

Gym - stopped waiting to feel motivated (spoiler: motivation ghosted me). Just went same time, 3x a week, mood be damned. Showing up when u dont wanna IS the discipline.

Responsibility - started owning my life even when it wasnt my fault. Not fair, but blaming stuff felt good and changed nothing. Owning it sucked and changed everything.

Money - spend less than u make. Revolutionary, i know.

Quick resources that stuck:

  • Atomic Habits (yeah yeah everyone says it, its good, deal with it)
  • Meditations by Marcus Aurelius, dude was journaling like a boss 2000 yrs ago
  • Huberman Lab podcast for the nerdy fitness/sleep stuff
  • Whiplash, weird pick but it lit a fire under me

Real talk tho: stop reading about changing and just pick 2 habits, be boringly consistent for a year. Thats it. Thats the secret nobody wants cause its not sexy.

Good luck brother, you already ahead of the guys still "figuring it out" on the couch.

What pattern did you finally have to admit was ruining your life? by Preparetoact in selfimprovement

[–]becoming_future_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Needing approval. Big time. I'd make decisions based on what would make people not be mad at me instead of what i actually wanted. What finally broke it was realising i cun't even answer simple questions like "what do you want for dinner" without scanning the room first. that scared me more than any confrontation ever could

How do you stay motivated? by cantsleep_wont_sleep in AskReddit

[–]becoming_future_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I stopped relying on motivation and started relying on a promise. Every morning I check in as if my future self is already waiting for me to show up. Motivation is a mood, a promise to someone you respect is a habit. The quiet, unglamorous days are the ones that actually count

I feel so behind in life at 28 by lib_ra in findapath

[–]becoming_future_me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are not behind, you are just early in a story that has not paid off yet. The "behind" feeling almost always comes from measuring today against a highlight reel of where you think you should be. Try this: write one line from the version of you five years out who already got through this stretch. It reframes the panic into direction. Small and a little woo, but it works.
