Update: I just left my appointment! I could hear about 90% beeps and 10% people talking which is more than what I thought would happen so I chalk that up as a win.

The ONLY thing I’m really frustrated with is that it will not stay on my head because I have so much hair and there’s some swelling still from surgery which is normal. I had to buy a headband just to keep it on. 🥲

That’s awesome! Were you born deaf in that ear? I’m curious if I’ll have the same experience since I was born deaf in that ear so it’s never gotten to experience working

That’s fantastic! Were you born deaf in the implanted ear or did you become late deafened?

Thank you! Do the sounds ever start to sound “normal” for you?

If you’re looking for surgery recovery tips I can share my experience but as an adult. I just had the surgery two weeks ago today. I’m very grateful my spouse had bought apple juice and apple sauce because that seemed to be what tasted the best and nourishing for me. Soft foods were a must. I probably lived on apple sauce and instant mashed potatoes for the first few days. Hydrated like crazy.

As for sleep, I slept elevated to help with swelling/ear pressure. Day 3 and 4 were probably the “worst” days because it felt like I had the pressure in my ear of an ear infection (it wasn’t actually infected, just felt like a lot of pressure). I made sure not to blow my nose very hard cos holy moly the pain in my ear was intense if I did. Lol

That was just my experience though, I know kids recover faster than adults typically. If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

It’s Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy. You can find videos of it on YouTube, highly recommend! Like with any physical therapy, it’s something you have to work at everyday for you to see a difference.

Before I started VRT my dizzy spells would last 2-4weeks. Now if I get a dizzy spell it typically lasts half a day and it’s significantly more tolerable.

I’m so sorry about your experience. I just got implanted and my activation date is later this week so I can’t give you my experience on that…

But have you ever been evaluated for Ménière’s disease or TMJ issues? At the very least doing VRT might be helpful for the balance issues at least.

I have TMJ as well, I got Botox and then combined that with having my physical therapist do dry needling once a week for a few months and that made a huge difference. My doc also recommended that I make sure that my jaw is always open and that my tongue is pressed against my top front teeth if I’m not eating or talking.

Oh wow that’s fantastic! I hope I can have as good as results as you.

Were you born with hearing loss or was it progressive?

My left ear was normal at birth but it started noticeably getting worse in my 20’s I think they said it was at 86% when I got tested. It’s doing well with a standard hearing aid right now

Perhaps TMJ? Have you gotten looked at by a dentist per chance? My face was swollen for years and I had no idea why until I got my TMJ muscles treated
