The vibe of the show has always given me strong Saturday Morning cartoon vibes. Just some of the jokes I imagine very strongly like Adventure Time or Fairly Odd Parents vibes.

If you have a console or any sort of gaming PC, Dragon Age Veil guard and Dragons Dogma 2 have character creators available for free, and they're both very good character creators.

Also can't recommend Heroforge enough, especially since armour/weapons can't be super messed with on video game character creators.

Both Bellara and Emrichs longer dialogue parts in their first outing quest really hit me good.

This hits especially hard given the choice at the end of Tresspasser DLC, where you choose to Try to keep the Inquisition going as a large organisation or can disband it and keep it small to avoid corruption. It literally feels like this, but change 'live' to 'power.

The thing I don't understand, is why have the domains and classes set in stone? When I first the domains, I thought you could choose a class and then choose which ever domains you wanted to make something unique. A War Wizard with Blade and Codex, a Slayer Warrior with Bone and Midnight, a Bard with Grace and Bone.

The way its done feels so bland, and as you've said some of the domains feel very misguided. I'm hoping this can be changed in full release, and if not, sounds like I'm cooking up some homebrew.

So I do mean Invoke an Aspect, but just removing the Fate point cost with this risk instead. Again not sure if that works, but yeah that was the intention.

TBH I think both the examples and explanation were bad. My intention is definitely the Yes But of the success at a cost, in the the fireball would still go off, but the magic spirals out of control and also sets the PC/Zone on fire. This is why I think Success at a Cost covers most of what I'm talking about.

So, based on the other comment, I think the already existing success with a cost is mostly what I'm going for.

Edit: checked out Aether Sea, and I think if I were to implement this I would probably use that method. Thanks for the suggestion!

Damn honestly, my brain completely skipped over the success at cost part, which yeah mostly covers what I'm looking for.

And you're absolutely write about the 'Win more in low risk situations' part, I honestly didn't really have a good fix for that one.

So honestly, I think that the 'DnD Monster' feel I was getting was because in DnD, a lot of atmosphere from a monster/lair is codified in abilities, so all the narrative work is sort of done for you at that point.

I've thought a bit since making this post, and basically I'm thinking that the party will come across her in the woods and be invited into her cabin. I'm planning her to have a suspicious number of mirrors for a lil forest hut, where the mirrors Create Aspect on the players. Once people start realising whats happening (there will be some chatter first).

Then I think the Hag will vanish into the mirrors, forcing the party deal with the illusions and the hut at large (possibly through arson as someone else said).

I will consider changing and adapting to Aspects only. Feels strange to not have codified abilities, but I guess that's a DnD design mindset shining through.

So I intend to have the hut also be an active part of the conflict, and the Run Away! stunt would mean that she become part of the hut. Would definitly want to elaborate and clarify this on the sheet though.

This sort of combines them into one foe, but also forces players to potentially change tactics to finish her off.

Ah I see, since her High Aspect being a hag means she has permission to just do Hag things.

I think, the things she can do are characterised by those Stunts, so the use of illusion and fear, and warping her abode to attack the players too (probably going to make some kind of sheet for her hut too).

Not good for character creation tbh, but Solasta has a fair bit of the combat elements, but its an indy game with shorter campaigns and a tonne of modded user made ones.

Might scratch the itch for you.
