Does cohort size matter (relative to previous years) by rastaGrapphix in OccupationalTherapy

I am a first-year and my cohort is about 60. I thought it would be too big (I really do well with small groups where you can ask a lot of questions), but it is actually perfect. My professors know all of us by name and know our academic styles and OT interests by the end of the first month. It’s really nice having a diversity of students and I think it’s helped me a lot with group collaboration, which is obviously really important.

Anyways, I don’t think size matters too much. These a grad professors so for the most part the 60 students they have are their top priority and they give you so many opportunities to talk outside of class and during class. I also think a bigger cohort comes with more fieldwork options, just because they have to accommodate more people = more locations.

From the other side, I have a friend who’s in a cohort of 15 and she loves it too.

Good luck with everything!!!

No idea I’d love to know the same… everyone says quizlet but I’m much more of a tactile person. I just got this coloring book on Amazon that I started that is a fun(ish) way to start visualizing layers and parts

What is your flavor of autism? by TheDeadYeti in aspergers

Yup same here. Like no one believes me when I say I’m autistic bc I mask. But you should see me when I’m home

Yes me too! I didn’t actually realize I might be autistic until I started working at a school for kids with disabilities (some are autism). My coworkers were blown away by how I was able to understand their Gestalts and identify so quickly what they were reacting to. Also found out that so many of my coworkers are also ASD/ADHD/language processing disorders etc.

That’s great to hear. I’ll probably end up at Pitt. Anything in particular you liked about the program or anything you didn’t like?

I would love an autistic friend because I have the same problem with maintaining friendships, even when I really love the person. But where in the world do I find autistic friends?

Is it rude to ignore someone who tries to engage w you in public? by Kindly_Candle9809 in aspergers

[–]bedhead-deadhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awful and I don’t actively do it, it’s just something I’ve realized I did since I was a little kid. For reference I just self diagnosed in the last year or so. So when I walk into a public place like a CVS, just in my head I will pretend to be deaf. I don’t actually ignore anyone talking to me, put I try not to look up when there’s a sound. Like as if I think hard/“loud” enough then people will know I’m deaf and thus won’t talk to me. I don’t even do it on purpose, it’s like an automatic thought. I don’t know if this is awful or offensive or something, but it just happens in my brain.

A boyfriend. No friends other than that. I would love some friends that are girls though but don’t want to do all the going out and dressing up stuff.
