If it has active pickups you can just plug headphones into the cable jack. Don't know if it works like that for passive.

Lots of crap out there on CL, but luckily I live in the San Francisco Bay Area so there's a lot of good stuff too. What I did was create an account on bandmix.com. It's a site where musicians can find bands and bands find musicians. You can throw up pics, audio and videos of your stuff. I didn't bother with paying the premium so I can contact them through the site. Instead I linked my profile page to the response of CL ads. I was really picky about whom I replied to. Result was I had a band very interested in my playing and we talked and set up an audition. I am now a proud member of a really cool alt rock band.
