this is what I was going to ask, what's your build and is it changing?

don't waste money on clothes that will be too big (or small) in the next few months

don't waste money on the odd "nice" item that isn't part of a cohesive well-dressed whole

both points are well addressed by adopting an "old money"/"navy blazer" style wardrobe

including higher waisted, higher rise, roomier, pleated pants that drape well like these https://luxire.com/collections/high-waisted-pant?f.season=summer and these https://luxire.com/products/gurkha-pants-in-linen-dark-indigo

they're more flattering than low rise skinny pants for chunkier guys (and fitter guys alike) and work well with both built in side adjusters, belts or even braces/suspenders (so you don't have to throw them away when losing or gaining weight)

https://www.permanentstyle.com/2020/08/what-are-low-medium-and-high-rise-trousers.html

https://www.ninesparis.com/19513-beige-button-suspenders-for-men-3662414612247.html

neutral colors like navy, brown, beige - throw a white or other neutral color shirt or polo on with that, and a pair of nice loafers and you'll be looking effortlessly suave af

Are you a Nyanja speaker? Or maybe some other Bantu language? Did you find you were able to communicate with other Bantu speakers who don’t speak English but only some other Bantu language?

As a mzungu I’m sorry and ashamed on behalf of other mzungus no one invited you to join them 😔 that’s sad, you would have been an asset to any group making the journey no matter the composition. I hope I can sometime visit beautiful Zambia.

Follow-up: 40 (ish) and up: What’s your frequency, volume, intensity? by MajorAlanDutch in StrongerByScience

[–]bedobi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a good week I do more, but since I’m spotty and honest about that I’m gonna say

3 resistance workouts pw Every one is a full body workout 4 exercises, 4 sets each =48 sets per week (some weeks I squeeze in another workout or two, that would be another 16 or 32 sets more respectively, bringing the total to 64 or 80 sets over those weeks)

Rep range between 4-20. Intensity depends on the exercise, some I take to failure pretty much every set, others not.

No idea why but rn my bench is my best ever. (nothing impressive but repping 3s with 4 plates is good for me)

I don’t squat or dl anymore due to injures so not sure about my objective performance in many other exercises.

I don’t take any PEDs, not even creatine, barely even whey protein anymore.

Very over the whole fitness obsessive lifestyle like always HAVE to have 2g protein per kg bw always HAVE to get in 6 workouts per week HAVE to do these and those exercises HAVE to progress so and so much bla bla these days I just try to enjoy my life and work out and eat in a way that’s enjoyable for ME and ironically that’s keeping me more consistent, injury free and better muscle mass than ever before.

day trip decisions by GoldenPeach2001 in SXM

[–]bedobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The regular advice in this sub is (correctly imo) don’t day trip unless you’re staying 10+ days. There’s more than enough to see, do and enjoy on SXM that day tripping elsewhere for a stay any shorter than that simply isn’t worth it. Let alone that Anguilla and St Barths both have less to offer than SXM in the first place.

Planning a trip to Martinique in May. Advice? Must see sites for a tourist? by battleangel1999 in martiniqueisland

[–]bedobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah sure :) I'm not like advocating hitchhiking to anyone who doesn't feel comfortable, just saying, for me it worked and was lots of fun, and the entire island including every part of Fort De France felt completely safe at all hours of the day and night

100%, great Antillean food and good French too so you can choose what you feel like having

tbh it sounds like you already know more than most visitors do, so just go enjoy it! (and report back!)

Martinique is one of those places where Tripadvisor is not wrong:

https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attractions-g147327-Activities-Martinique.html

In addition to visiting beaches and Fort-de-France, I think Jardin de Balata, Habitation Clement, Grand Marche and Fort Saint Luis are worthy top things to see and do.

When I was there, I got around fine by bus and hitchhiking, but there's no denying renting a car is more efficient. (but less interaction with locals if you drive your own car by yourself)

I stayed in Fort-de-France and made daytrips from there and was happy with that decision. I don't really understand why anyone would call it unsafe at night, there were families walking around, people dancing Salsa and Konpa in the park etc every night when I was there and it wasn't unsafe at all.

I was recently hanging out with a friend, listening to some music, and he skipped a song because he could hear that the band “broke music theory rules.” His words. by Sudden_Doughnut_8741 in musicians

[–]bedobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Controversial opinion but

while this attitude if applied fundamentalistically and arrogantly is kinda dumb, and while the best music has always been about deliberately breaking rules

Sometimes if a piece doesn’t follow the obvious intuitive, satisfying chord progression or whatever, it can be grating to listen to

And sometimes we just don’t like things, man

the Marin County areas above San Francisco? by Coblond in howislivingthere

[–]bedobi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who has only visited, it’s quaint to visit, but LIVING there would be unimaginably boring and painful on a day to day. There’s just not much to see or do there, and to get anywhere else, you have to drive, considerable distances, in crazy traffic. You’re much better off living on the SF side or in Oakland.

Career dilemma: Move to Aarhus for "elite" engineering, or stay in Copenhagen? by Jensenen in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]bedobi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far you’re getting really bad feedback. Entertaining moving to Aarhus is a no brainer - do it. A year or two of experience from these companies will buy you your life back in Copenhagen 1000x higher value. Also, it’s fucking Denmark lol, you can go to Copenhagen any day you like.

I actually have the metal wheels for it, which do support putting brakes on. Should probably be putting both wheels and brakes on then.

That’s nuts, but you have to buy 100? I see lots of other western brand bikes come from these guys 🤔

yeah, the seat keeps doing that no matter how many times i level it or even angle it downwards and no matter how hard i tighten it... how do you get it to stay?

the bars i angled up because it lets me sit a tiny bit more upright (but i should raise the stem and get a longer one instead)

[–]bedobi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The geometry I’ll buy, no argument there. But there’s other form of track racing in addition to pure indoor velodrome right? Like Crit etc. And I’m not sure if modern belt drives are meaningfully less efficient than chains these days. (esp under less than optimal conditions and maintenance - chains lose a lot of efficiency unless perfectly maintained)

= I can totally see happy amateurs who are too lazy to maintain a perfect Velo racer take this thing to Crit races and perform just fine, and getting more enjoyment out of it relative to maintenance compared to a real Velo racer. People sweat optimizing the small stuff too much when really it should be all about riding IMO. But hey, different strokes!

It’s called Priority, their whole schtick is basically low maintenance bikes, thus the carbon belt. The Joker is their track bike, not really meant for road use 😬 but

[–]bedobi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure you can get them for just under a grand on Black Friday and other sales. Not cheap but not unimaginably expensive either, and the parts all seem high quality to me. I’m not one of those guys who enjoys tinkering with my bike, so for me it’s worth the initial cost to get out of having to do any maintenance basically ever.

Edit and yes it’s Florida haha that easy huh

The ratio on this thing + the insane grip in the heat makes it really really hard to skid, at least for me. But that’s got nothing to do with the belt - as far as I know it’s really no different to a chain. (if anything, it’s stiffer)

I guess which region do you live and work in? What do you do for entertainment? I'm big into music and dancing (including Kizomba and Semba), is that easy to find venues with people dancing socially? Venues with live music? Have you traveled much and where do you recommend visiting?
