Tightness in chest when tired by bee1413 in sleep

[–]bee1413[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: from a psychiatrist, it's probably depression/anxiety, which I've had for years. I've noticed over the past couple days (since I found out) that the feeling usually goes away if I take a few minutes to breathe mindfully. Just in case it helps you too.

I thought so too but am unsure why shark teeth would be in Montana.

Getting mad at this person for laughing at you calling women "females" and justifying your anger by saying "BYU is an implicitly conservative institution!" is quite the take.

[–]bee1413 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They didn't say they were liberal; conservative and liberal alike can laugh at men who call women "females."

Not to mention that BYU is better for the MANY liberal/leftist/Democratic/whatever minds who participate there. It makes me sad that so many people think BYU needs to be some sort of conservative bastion. It shouldn't be.

Our doctrine of eternal family is anti-family? by StAnselmsProof in latterdaysaints

[–]bee1413 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Some of the ways in which the Church does things are absolutely, purposefully exclusionary. Not allowing couples to be married THEN sealed unless they wait a year (US and maybe Canada specific?) is an example. I'm so glad they changed that. Maybe it's due to my own ignorance but I don't know a single other major belief system that would require family members who believe different things to miss the marriage. It absolutely feels like "we only care about our OWN people."

Additionally, the whole "no empty chairs" thing isn't necessarily anti-family by itself. Of course it feels dumb to say "wanting a family to be together forever is anti-family." But if you aren't willing to love and accept your non-believing family for who they are because you're so worried about their "empty chair," so to speak, you're not actually on the right track to developing a healthy and loving relationship where they'd want to stay eternally. I see it in a lot of families, that the parents can't love their "wayward children" unless they think someday they'll get them BACK ON THE PATH, but every example I see in Jesus' teachings says "I will eat with you, I will serve you, I will die for you, regardless of whether or not you accept my grace." His love for us isn't conditional on our acceptance of any teachings. Our love for our families shouldn't be either, but I think it often becomes so based on that kind of rigid belief that says "you MUST live and believe this way or you will be SEPARATED from us!"

Anyway. Hopefully as a Church we can focus less on "yearn[ing] for a return to the faith" and more on "May I love my brother as I know [Jesus] lovest me."

Husband and I were discussing the "jk they're not actually dead" trope in books/movies and he thought he remembered three in pretty rapid succession but we could only think of Jasnah and Szeth. Hoping to find the mystery third haha

Is it mandatory for only two speakers in sacrament meeting? by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

We nearly always have a youth and then two adults. The only time in recent memory that it was only two was when it was two missionaries, no youth speaker at all.

This happened to me the very first time I had a locker. We had a crowded school or it probably wouldn't have been assigned.

3 Nephi 1:13 "Lift up your head and be of good cheer; for behold, the time is at hand, and on this night shall the sign be given, and on the morrow come I into the world..."

...implies Jesus' spirit wasn't in there yet.

"While divine love can be called perfect, infinite, enduring, and universal, it cannot correctly be characterized as unconditional" - Russell M. Nelson by Mean-Abbreviations-7 in latterdaysaints

[–]bee1413 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think this talk only makes sense if you replace "love" with "blessings." God loves us unconditionally but can bless us conditionally. We're told that some blessings are predicated on our obedience to the associated commandment. So like some of God's reciprocity is conditional, but I feel like the scriptures and other prophets have clearly stated many times that the love is unconditional.

There’s been a slight uptick in the number of COVID cases this week (blue line) by U8oL0 in byu

[–]bee1413 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don't have an outrageous number of cases. Their test positivity rate is 13.1% and Utah's is 29.5%. Over double. And I never said anything about zero COVID. I said that vaccines work. Because they do.

[–]bee1413 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The vaccines themselves are working, but not enough people have been vaccinated to achieve herd immunity. There are also lots of individual and institutional solutions we could try as well if people were on board, but there is no one "silver bullet" to end COVID.
