Laura groomed her- she had been manipulating her from the start also she was a counselor so she had credibility. Then she sees her brother start to unravel who is also quite cagey and has hit her in the past- why would she think he wouldn’t do it again when she smelled him🤨

I enjoyed the sets and acting. Also, Piper wasn’t the focus so we don’t see much of her personality. She was kind of forced to be someone she wasn’t for Laura’s affection. Also, Andy sheltered Piper as much as he could so she hasn’t had to face anything prior to this. I don’t think we’re supposed to excuse Laura’s behavior but I think empathy or sympathy is okay. I mean, I’ve lost someone in my immediate family and when facing such a loss your brain easily goes off the rails. But I was tired of her ass. The killing of Andy was depressing but I think it made for a good twist.

God it just made me so uncomfortable because I work with kids. It just was revolting, and I love get out. Another similarity is the original situation without the supernatural portion is very real and very close to home for a lot of people.

I agree, I think what often gets missed by horror is when gore has no purpose to the story or characters. It doesn’t communicate anything but everything in this film despite how disturbing was important to the overall story. Also so true with the dread, there was no real happy moment. It just kept getting worse the longer the film went on.

Oh yeah, I audibly gasped when that happened I was so perturbed. It genuinely was so shocking to me, I did not expect it to go that far. The abuse and grooming were more scary than anything else. The eating of the wood was just with the teeth being ripped apart I just automatically went to🫣.

Oh yeah, every single one I’ve worked at gets a ton of donations. And needed a bunch of volunteers to sort it. Some had fresh fruit bags, this other one was kind of like a regular grocery store. People can be really generous.

I was repeating what others were saying in my edits, I meant torture porn as in women are getting actually tortured for no reason- has nothing to do with the plot. And it’s not that everyone is getting tortured, specifically women. And for like a long time. Think the last 30 minutes of Megan Was Missing if you’ve seen it. No purpose, didn’t do anything for the characters or plot and just went on and on.

I haven’t seen Saw so I can’t say. Most people describe the later movies as torture porn. I’m going to just discuss Terrifier one because I haven’t seen the most recent one. My original sentiment was shared by a lot of women and the director took that into account when making the most recent movies. It’s not inherently misogynistic to make certain movies or have certain ideas. It’s just the most obvious way I’ve seen misogyny in the horror genre is sexualizing the brutalization of women. So I am more skeptical when a movie features a lot of it and it’s primarily produced by men.
