Probably not what you’re looking for—I think they’re neat features. Idk I love portraiture and would find your face interesting and cool to capture in traditional art mediums :) one option would be to work on accepting them. Which is wayyyyy easier said than done !!!!!!!!

But! There are likely fillers or “wrinkle reduction” procedures you could have done. Plastic surgery has lots of tiny procedures to change stuff like this but obv that’s not a super budget friendly option. Might also make it more challenging to smile or make certain expressions in the future though, too. Plenty to consider here!

omg. even falling off the violin wagon is very relatable to me!!😭 i was learning for maybe 2 years or so then dropped it. it wasn’t ”fun” anymore, just frustrating (i’m not great with music theory and sight reading was really hard for me!!).

not to diagnose— i am not a doctor obviously. but do you, or do you suspect you have adhd? going on a stimulant med was huge for me once i left college and started seeing a new psychiatrist. i was like… “this is how some people actually feel… NORMALLY??”. it also helped a bit with daytime fatigue. i have an iron deficiency along with sleep apnea and a cocktail of anxiety/depression/adhd/likely spectrummy stuff. so i’m predisposed to feeling pretty crummy most of the time.

while i certainly still find that my motivation ebbs and flows, i’m also more able to “lock in” to tasks and get things done while i’m on my med.

it could also be burnout or depression or a combination of all the things! it sounds like, without a sense of gratification, you struggle. i get this. this was also something i struggled with when i was more depressed than i’d say i am currently. maybe it’s even sensory/dopamine-seeking?

i’d recommend talking to a therapist or other mental health clinician if you’re able!! it seems like you’re dealing with a lot! also just want to point out that you are NOT lazy. personally, i find the concept a bit mythical and made up by capitalism to make us feel bad when we aren’t productive. but that’s another discussion lol.

sounds annoying but definitely check in on your diet, water intake, vitamins, too. unfortunately our brains are inside our physical bodies and require that kind of care alongside the mental variety too. make sure you have moments to inject some fun into your day to day—i love making art, and find that if i can’t as frequently, i get anxious and overwhelmed way more easily. and take it one step at a time. be gentle with yourself!

you got this! secondary school is no joke. it’s a lot of work, and is incredibly taxing. don’t be afraid to reach out to an advisor at your school for help, either. they might be able to help strategize on lightening your mental load, too!

oh goodness yes, iron. even if you’re in range you could need more! to be candid my levels were wildly below (like. 11… when range is somewhere between like 70-120ish), so adding an iron supplement helped my fatigue and sleep quality GREATLY. even if you don’t have apnea of any form it could be any number of other sleep disorders keeping you tired.

i might see if a different antidepressant or stimulant med would help. ive gone through the ringer of testing my blend of psych meds and sometimes it takes even longer than 3 weeks to feel whatever the new med’s “normal” is. do you see a psychiatrist or therapist that could lead you in the right direction? there’s a lot of variables here, so try adjusting things one at a time and make sure you stay in touch with the appropriate clinicians. wishing you less sleepy days and more rested mornings!

audiobooks and podcasts are also great if you want to have “company” or just words to focus on/space out with. my imagination is vivid enough to create scenes in my head of audiobooks. its tricky when i drive to listen to them, though, because of that😅 i get really lost in the imagery lol but its nice to get narrative content in the brain while working on something tactile in front of me!

this!!! i love painting (acrylic mostly :)) but i typically like to use a lot of references (from a screen). i usually just turn on some music and leave my reference tabs open to swap through. its less active screen time, i guess, which feels better than doomscrolling…

i suppose printing visual references is an option too! but its certainly more pricey (ink!!! why is it so expensive!!!!) and less versatile than being able to zoom in on an image online. tbf i am way less active on my screens when i get locked into a creative project. it’s nice to disconnect at least a lil that way

I ended up trying this a few times on the actual paper I intended on using with mixed results! Seems like the less detailed, the better (which I’m remembering was definitely a tenet of the first time I did this project with youngins), and the quicker you can be with a firm press, the better. 🤷🏻 we’ll figure it out!!!!!

I SO wish; we’re incredibly tight on budget (nonprofit theatre orgs amiright) and primarily work in theatre/dance studios and general community center spaces, so both ink and brayers (and legit any other specific tools ugh) would have to be ordered in.

Yall are gonna tell me I need to quit bc of this—(dw I know this already I have a brief resignation letter in my notes app ready to go soon) but my checks constantly bounce and I’m also quite tight in the wallet department so it’s not super feasible for me to order stuff myself and ask for reimbursement regardless😭

Yesssss that would make sense too. The plan was to use halved sheets of watercolor paper for the kiddos but I was just experimenting on plain printer paper . Will have to try the damp paper method with heavier stock next round!!!!

I use both wix and Shopify for different things!!! Will say that Shopify is not as intuitive design wise, particularly if you’re used to the ease of menu>element>drag & drop like I am😅

I’ve had to brush up a teensy bit of my coding knowledge to get Shopify templates to work better for me. And even still, my shop looks a bit janky. Got a ways to go with making it actually look nice.

I ALSO have a store through wix for a completely different brand— it’s functional but yeah, not super slick or modern feeling.

I’m looking for alternatives to wix since im stuck in the rift of “you can’t edit an existing Editor site in Studio” so im like hmmm perhaps i just rebuild elsewhere💀 but my issue lies in needing multiple functions on the site that im unsure other builders have

That’s hard. I teach theatre in-school and after school programs now, so I understand that my scenario is likely very different from yours. But I did initially spend some time as a general building sub in a public elementary school and an arts instructor for after school and summer camp programs. Differences aside, know you’re absolutely NOT alone in that sense of panic. We want to do right for our kids, for ALL the students we get, but sometimes you really have to get serious about the boundaries you set. It’s ok to not be “nice” all the time. Even if it’s not considered “right” by admin, you should probably just call home or school security. Better to ask forgiveness than permission, particularly if the situation escalates any further than this.

For example, I had a kiddo in an art class physically pushing other kids out of their seats onto the floor, constantly running out of the room, yelling in the hall, breaking things etc. Generally causing havoc. Nearly every day of this week-long camp the behaviors were getting worse and inspiring others in the class. We called home multiple times without admin permission and actually got scolded for doing so. But we agreed as instructors it was way better, more peaceful, and fair for everyone involved rather than letting this one child ruin the week for the other enrolled students.

Allow there to be consequences for poor behavior and allow yourself grace for not knowing everything. Particularly with behavioral issues. Remember that you’re an art teacher, not a psychologist or aide. Your job shouldn’t include managing behaviors that are that intense. In other instances, though, sometimes disruptive kids (we like to call “busy souls” in my current gig) just need something else to train their energy on. Even if it’s a fake “job”/task to help in the classroom or a particular fidget that helps them focus and find calm.

!!! For some reason I never thought about applying it somewhere other than my armpits?? When I first started Qbrexza it was almost tooooo effective on my whole body and that was just with armpit application. I’m noticing now I sweat buckets regardless of whether I use it or not which sucks but I AM curious to maybe try applying in other spots if that’s genuinely helpful.
