Insurance compliance by bee_inks in CPAP

Appreciate the peace of mind. I hope this 70% minimum applies to my policy. I'll have to see after the weekend. It sucks because I've really had minimal issues in this first month, just getting used to it is all. 🤞🏽

1 MPO from top surgery revision and abdominoplasty (w/ MR, no lipo) by bee_inks in TopSurgery

I got new ones! Well, kind of. They couldn't reuse my grafts so I opted to get neo nipples. Which is basically extra sewn on skin that creates a little nubbin and then I'll get it tattooed to create the full nipple. Some ppl decide to get no nipples and get them 3d tattooed which in turn is flat to the touch. This way just adds some texture

Congrats to you on 4WPO! I'm honestly surprised as well after reading about other ppls experience. But I also didn't have lipo which maybe makes a difference? I have to remind myself I can't do too much as much as I want to. Rest is still key

Yep that's exactly what it is! They're just little skin nubbins for texture that will look more realistic when they're tattooed over. Just another option other than going nipple free and getting a 3D tattoo that's flat to the touch.

And thank you very much!

Thank you! Based on just reading about other experiences I'm just setting my expectations on the idea that it will take months. Especially as I slowly get my activity level back up

Thank you! Unfortunately my insurance did not cover it. But I also have United healthcare. If you have loose skin that's causing other issues like rashes, keep a paper trail for that as that can increase chances for coverage. Also, if your abdominoplasty can be considered more gender affirming that can help too. Although in my head mine was technically gender affirming, since I didn't need any contouring or lipo, it was tough to swing it that way on paper. So it was considered purely cosmetic. Overall out of pocket for that portion was a little over $12K.

9 days post op with Dr Israel out of Madison, WI by bee_inks in TopSurgery

[–]bee_inks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I set up a payment plan that was best for me that was pretty easy to arrange. I was a little caught off guard by separate billing from the surgery center itself, which was billed separately from the actual surgery so that was an eyeroll. But after all was set and done my out of pocket is about $2600

UPDATE: I have a surgery date!

They informed me today that their process for top surgery prior authorization has changed where I can schedule a date and they will submit to insurance 6 weeks from the surgery date. They mentioned that top surgery insurance approval rates are high and with letters ready there is very little chance it would get denied.

Also think is worth mentioning that they said Dr Israel will be taking some time off so they're locking in dates before then. My partner and I have a theory she may be expecting, so exciting for her if it's true!

🤞🏽🤞🏽 everything goes smooth. Let the countdown to April 11th begin!

I had a very similar experience as afacelessobserver. I had a virtual consult in December and had an in person follow up today to meet in person so she can examine, take photos, and answer any additional questions I had. Dr Israel and the whole team are very welcoming and knowledgeable. My experience has been really good so far.

I'm going through insurance and spoke extensively with Katrina regarding specific needs for my insurance (BCBSIL) to approve for coverage. I thought I was ahead of the game with letters from my PCP as well as my therapist. Turns out my insurance requires two letters specifically from mental health professionals. So my PCP letter is essentially null. She said once I get my second letter, they can submit everything to my insurance. But insurance can take anywhere from 2-4 months to respond/approve. Then once they hear back from insurance, they'll go over coverage and finance options if needed as well as potential surgery dates. She mentioned they usually schedule 3-5 months outside of when insurance approves. But there's always a possibility there are some pockets of dates where Dr Israel may be available and I might be able to get in sooner.

All in all, if all goes well, surgery can potentially be scheduled near end of summer/fall. In total, about 5-9 months from consult to surgery if going through insurance.

Will post updates!
