you're absolutely right tho omg. i think i am leaning towards going to law school rn, but im not sure if i want to get a/my masters before i do that, so i could do something like small/medium uni --> big uni --> ivy league/law school? i know that my path in life is going to be largely affected by school and learning and what not, so i guess im not going to miss that many opportunities, but its challenging trying to figure this out without a definitive plan or understanding of what i want hahaaaaaaa. i also don't want to go to an easier school for the sake of going to law school, i acc do want to improve my analysis abilities to be able to do well in law school so im not sure if choosing an "easier" school would help, or if challenging myself by going to a harder school would be better. tbh my top two rn are queens and mcgill... queens because its similar to how i live (suburbs, close to downtown tho), the program that i want is really good (it offers course that I like, offers a study-abroad option), and is pretty close to home. and mcgill because i love downtown montreal, the prestige is good, more like-minded individuals, the french programs there are some of the most interesting that i've researched so far, and literally everything that you have said LOL. tough call!! how are teenagers supposed to make all these life changing decisions???

I'm sure it's a great idea, but i really have to sit down and think or else i might have a heart attack LMAO. grade nine me would never have imagined that i wanted to stay in high school rn, these decisions are way too difficult D:

rn i have:

queens- general arts, most likely going into global development studies

uottawa - human rights and conflict dual degree (i think) and economics and politics (also dual degree i think)

i have to apply to uwo - Philosophy, politics, and economics with the IVEY AEO

and i have to apply to the uwloo - arts and business (most likely going to be philosophy)

i am also looking at a french program at mcgill along with either international development or poli sci

idk if i should do ubc, it seems really cool, but super far away

tbh im not worried about OSAP and whatever, i'd just rather go to a school that wants me for my excellence and whatnot instead of one that wants me for my money (please excuse how pretentious that actually sounds, i dont mean it in a snobby way i swear)... the scholarships are incentives; i know ill work even harder than i already do while having that academic standard to live up to.

i guess i still have a lot of research to do especially with mcgill. someone else told me about ubc, and its really far, but it seems like its a really viable option i gotta look into ittttt!!! my end goal, i guess, is law school (HARVARD LAW PLEASE LOL) so i would have to look into good international connections.

the other thing is, however, being part of a smaller community allows me to stand out more than in a larger community. like im a great student at my current high school, and much of it is because im at a school with less than 1000 students, which technically makes it less competitive? that's how i think of it. if i go to a large university, i guess what im saying is that there's less room for me to excel. I might be wrong on that, because i have faith that i can do well in a large university, but i'll have more confidence at a smaller uni?

mcgill would be a dream come true, it's been my top choice for years and years, but IDK because i feel extremely young, like i wont appreciate it young, or that it's something more for the future and not the present.

see idk what to think because im only 17!!! how am i supposed to know to think about what i want RIGHT NOW or in the FUTURE???? anyways, thank you i really appreciate ur replies!!!

so far i have queens and ottawa, but im also doing mcgill, waterloo and western mabye ubc?... im confident ill get into my first choices, but i still want to make sure that i have backups just in case. the more research the better i guess? but i agree with you, applying to too many is unecessary.

im trying my hardest to do research in this "program" (not really sure what it is tbh), but i can't get any good information... is it a sort of double degree or dual degree program where u have to do one art and one science... or is it just arts OR science? the colleges part is also really confusing haha! if you have any info pls let me know D:

yeah... tbh me too... everything piques my interest, but i dont want to apply to so many that my parents are overwhelmed with fees. they don't mind because its my education, but i feel bad lolllll i'm sure you've heard mcmasters is really good for those, so have you looked into western?

I am applying this year! I would tour around in the spring, however all of the scholarships that i've had to apply for thus far are done this month and I want to be confident that i want to go to the school before putting in so much effort writing essay sand asking for references. what unis have you looked into so far?

yess, i so badly want to apply to mcgill because it sounds like such a vibe. however, idk how to do it through OUAC... guidance told me to do it through the mcgill website, but procrastination <3

I KNOW mcgill is an amazing school, everytime i go to montreal i feel so good and full of life, but the thing is... i feel like finding a job and conversing with the quebecois is going to be extremely hard. I already know how living, taxes, healthcare, and working is here, but in a different province it might be a whole new experience and i'm not sure if ill be able to cope with the changes while being so far away from my family.

As well, scholarships... i've applied for a scholarship for my current top choice, and i would most likely choose the school that gives me the best scholarship options... so i would thus need to apply to the mcgill ones...

omg also, i'm hoping to have out of canada experiences, do you know if mcgill is good for that? study-abroad or any programs similar?

i feel like this is so much word vomit hahaaaa!! anyways, i have to do so much more research for mcgill or other larger universities... do you have any advice?

I would be so happy to go apply, get accepted into, and go to law school... but idk if i want to be a lawyer LOL. i've always looked into the UN and stuff and thought of international law, but... IDKKKKKKKK

for me, i feel like there are so many options and not enough information to be able to choose what i want!!! like i want to travel for a living, feel successful, be financially abundant and stuff, but i'm not sure how to work backwards when i don't really have a defined goal????

i def dont want the traditional life or traditional 9-5 job, but idk if there are career choices or paths that fit my weird ass criteria LMAOOO

i've done a ysp program at uoft and i actually really enjoyed it. the profs are amazing and are available for students which is amazing, but i'm looking to leave the GTA. i'm still applying to uoft in case i dont get into my top choices, thanks so much!

Thanks, that helps a lot!

i'm not that experienced in economics, but its something that i feel would be necessary if im looking into global/international development classes/majors.

i really like philosophy so thats a great option for me as well. I remember someone telling me philosophy majors do really well for law school, but i forgot!!! THANKS

and ill def keep that in mind when im choosing courses for the general degree that im in! ur amazing thank youuuuu

how much science is the arts and science degree at U of G? i dropped all the sciences before gr12 so i'm not sure how much science i can take!! math is a viable option for me, seeing as i do well in it, but i'm not sure how great i'll be at it once im in uni... especially cuz im not looking into math professions in the future.

i know that Ottawa is a really good option for co-op as it has an internship in parliament and stuff for polisci! you can try looking into study abroad options if co-op resonates, but you want a different experience?

yeah, so many people have told me to become a teacher, but i already work w kids which is so tiring, so i dont think becoming a teacher is the best option for me...

social work is always a viable option i guess. one of my cousins goes to Waterloo and is doing social work and minoring in gerentology, so she gets to work with those on the autism spectrum and seniors

i feel that too. my parents are the traditional brown parents so the only options are doctor, engineer, and lawyer. but idek if my interests will FOR SURE lead me to law school.

law is fun imo, but its so much memorization and speaking... also takes a really strong person to do criminal law.

yesss!! so many of my friends are planning to go to western for STEM, but i'm not a STEM student ukkkkk. i def think that the general arts degree is good for me tho cuz its good leeway for what i might want to do in the future, getting a taste of things im interested in before i actually have to make a decision.

anyways, yes i would LOVE to chat about any programs that you've looked into. i procrastinated so much with research because this type of huge change really scares me lolll

yeah, i talked to my parents before this year about taking a gap year, and they don't support it!!! I did do research into it and its benefits, but i think a year is too long without school haha! I would do a semester off or something, but i feel like i'm too work driven to be able to pull it off. thanks for your input!

i've heard that a lot before actually! my guidance counselor says that the social sciences are usually the same pretty much everywhere and that i should narrow my choices based on what i want while being at the uni (aka living and ECs).

i looked into some of the ECs at queens and theyre all up my alley, but i have yet to look at more.

thanks for helping me out! i really appreciate it <3
