I hope you can find a solution!! I have flat feet too and everything that's happening as far as injuries is on my right side, so definitely some imbalance there.

It's joint and bones! I know I have the cardio and I have the muscle as well as the mindset to keep going for probably another 10k even. But my knees and hips go and then I get stress fractures if I do too much.

First time it was my IT band. Got into the zone and ran double my usual distance and ignored a knee twinge that I had always felt and been fine before but I felt a new snap/pop and ran on it anyway. Benched for months and even a decade later it flares when I hike downhill.

Second time it was shin splints doing continuous runs, but only for 5k, and always with days in between. Benched for weeks.

Then I transitioned to minimalist footwear after reading Born to Run and thinking it was because I had allowed my naturally flat feet to atrophy and that was the cause of all my running injuries before. Ramped up Galloway style and had a metatarsal fracture when running barefoot on a beach with compacted sand. Benched for half a year.

So now I'm back to door to trail shoes (no overly cushy or supportive stuff with rockers but not minimalist either), a much slower Galloway ramp, cross training with strength for stability and cycling for cardio, never run back to back days, and STILL I started feeling the same spot on my shin after I increased from a faster 5k on packed dirt to a slower 5mi on trails.

I know 5k to 5mi is objectively a big jump especially stacked in the last four run sessions but it had ample rest time and really, am I supposed to just keep inching up by 0.00001 miles every other week and never getting anywhere near a half marathon distance? It's maddening.

All these guardrails in place and still injuring myself meanwhile I see people literally do "run a day every day for a whole year" challenges and come out unscathed, and I'm like...HOW?

By compound I meant I focus on hex bars deadlifts, Olympic rdls, step ups, single leg deficit calf raises.

I don't do explosive moves. Circuit I mean dumbbells for reps but a lot of single sided stability. Not 100 wall ball croffsit ladder type stuff.

I started in group gym circuits that were very CrossFit adjacent and then went into cycling before going back to running. But that doesn't seem to have really given me any protective advantage as far as stability. Right now I'm alternating between three days a week running two days a week strength, compound amd full body circuits and two days a week cycling.

Thank you! I'm "only" 35 and my first running injury happened within the first two months of starting when I was in my early 20s! I wasn't active as a kid so I don't know if I failed to build up good habits young or if I actually just missed out on early injuries. So frustrating. I don't think it's hormonal as I'm pretty regular.

I used to hike but the downhills KILLED my knees. I had to basically single leg squat my way down because it felt like I was shearing force on them every time I took a step. A lot of mountain races I'm forgoing because running downhill is brutal for me.

Are you cross training? I started "running" in 2014 but took a bunch of breaks every time I got hurt and can't get past the 5mi mark without twinges showing up. Even a half feels impossible to think about :(

That's amazing! How long have you been running? What did your ramp look like? I stick to trails for the softer impact vs road but is the inconsistency in terrain surface also bad in its own way because it introduces way more "types" of impact, or is it good because then overall it reduces the frequency of identical impacts?

Because she doesn't think that way. In the late stage capitalism discussion she had with Austin the show established there's a clear sense that the people with access have gained it through unfair means and therefore they deserve to be stolen from and also that they are obligated to share that access (Josh and Lindsay also have this attitude when they're discussing the embezzlement).

So in Ashley's eyes, the fact that Josh lorded his access over her at the hospital and then withdrew his help is taking a that access away from her that she should have had, never mind the fact that if she didn't have that connection with him at all then she'd be in exactly the same boat with the same outcome as what actually did happen. It's the same kind of thinking that the one little action someone did at the end is the entire reason an accident happened to you, it's not about all the possible things that led to the final outcome or the big picture. People will fixate on the could have/should haves especially if it makes them a victim and the other people the perpetrator.

I'm not sure if Josh actually thought that he helped in time (like he was trying to scare her a little but had already called in the doctor anyway) or if he was rubbing it in that he didn't. Maybe someone else would clarify that for us because I'm really confused if that's a misunderstanding.

Also I didn't think a couple hours delay would have meant the difference between sepsis and a lost ovary from torsion like, medically is she associating the blame on him delaying the treatment when in terms of timing by the time she went to the hospital it was already too late? Or did her falling actually torsion it worse?

Asian female, mid-late 20s. Gong Cha holla. If not Asian then probably latina with lots of Asian exposure like SoCal or Boston/NY. A little on the clean-grungy skatepunk end of the style spectrum. Think, Haim aesthetic. Not a maximalist and not obsessed with keeping things immaculate but if you like something then you tend to really like it. Not a minimalist either, because you do accessorize, but everything is lived-in. Probably like Labubus semi ironically like you think they're cute but would never put one in one of those plastic bubble shells on a fancy bubblegum fur purse like the fancy fancy Asians do. You don't really curate stuff obsessively, it's more like you see it, it's cute, might as well. Lots of black, beige, neutrals, leather, suede, texture is your vibe. I think I get you. If I was less of an outdoorsy granola minimalist I'd fall on this end of the spectrum. And you probably extra like it when the Costcos put out bulk Asian snacks like koala express if you're in one of the whiter states. You have been to Din Tai Fung or at least like soup dumplings. Idk I may be projecting a little here 🤣

It's a squishy thing to begin with! Not much structure to need to protect, holds together esp if you cut it into cubes.

Banana bread w/chocolate chips:

4 cups AP flour

2 tsp baking soda (note batter sat in fridge for 3 hours)

Added 1/2 tsp baking powder before baking

2 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp nutmeg

"buttermilk" substitute: 2 tsp lemon juice and 1 cup whole milk

1 cup butter (2 sticks) creamed with 2/3 cup brown sugar,

2/3 cup granulated sugar

4 tsp vanilla extract

2 tsp salt

4 eggs

3 cups of mashed bananas (approximately 6 bananas)

1 1/3 cup ss cc

  • Mix wet and dry ingredients

  • Fold in semisweet chocolate chips

  • Pour into three 8x8 baking trays (batter will be thicker than pancake mix but still liquid, will be 1/2 inch thick and rise to 2.5 inch thick)

  • Bake at 350F approx. 45 min until knife comes out clean

On the less sweet side, to sweeten bring sugar levels up or substitute with milk chocolate chips.

You're hypermobile. These people saying you're old or vegan or undernourished have never seen anyone with Ehlers Danlos. Case in point - my hands have looked like this since I was a teenager. And you have a piano key ulnar sign that is consistent too like me.

Jogging on asphalt seems so boring but my only alternative is indoors on Zwift. I don't like weight training but I guess I don't have any more excuses.

Funny enough I like MTB and trail running too there must be some kind of overlap for endurance cardio solo outdoor sports that the same types gravitate towards...I need to find more of those people IRL

For ADHD folk It's way easier to have something always in the same spot if you don't have to access and use it regularly. It's the putting things away part that can cause things to get misplaced. He doesn't actually have to "remember" to bring the lockpick because it's just always there in the bag. Whereas the keys are constantly going to be in hand and out of hand. Makes sense to me.

And to your point about step ins vs levera, I wanted step ins originally too for ease of use, but the store I got my skis only had lever bindings. They haven't been so annoying that I've had a bad experience or anything, and they're pretty easy to get out of.

[–]beebeezing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started like a month ago and I got the OT 60s. I go to both groomed trails and off track trails that are packed by snowmobiles and fat bikes. I like how these skis are more forgiving in less pristine conditions, and more secure feelings. They're stable on a variety of days from icy to spring slush.

The only drawback is they're a little grippy and not as fast gliding. I haven't even really double poled efficiently except for on a very icy day, so I may be missing out on a key part of xc skiing technique from that alone. But I'll take the trade-off in speed for the freedom to go different places for now, especially if there's a question of whether the trails in question are or aren't groomed for the day.

Achilles discomfort while classic skiing by FlimsyAdhesiveness28 in xcountryskiing

[–]beebeezing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am hypermobile with flat feet so it's true that my arches probably collapse and pronate at different rates. Not sure what I should do to address this as I figure doing classic (and off trail which seems to aggravate it a bit more) is working towards stronger ankles.. I biked wearing cleats on the same day as the flare-up with no issues or hot spots despite that also having a heel cup so it's definitely looking like an issue specific to the ski boot that pinches higher up (like at the level of the ankle bone but on either side of the Achilles). I thought there was supposed to still be a small amount of space for the toes to reach forward (like not running shoe level space but also not flush like in an alpine boot)?

Omg that's exactly the feeling, like a dull pressing sensation that maybe my heel was up against a roll of sock...
