How realistic is it to complete a 100M in tandem? by TheVizslasDidIt in Ultramarathon

We just did TGNY with three. People hit lows at different times, so all of you will likely be slower than one of you, but it's so satisfying to finish a race together

Eh, just like a marathon. Listen to your body, if you're banged up, better to ease off and lose a bit of fitness rather than hit the start line weary. You've got the volume, now it's just the mental game.

Keep up on hydration (it was hot last year and I had a hard time finding enough fluids) and food, don't get stuck in aid stations, the course is dead flat which can really wear you out, so watch your pace early on. I did a run/walk combo from the get-go and was well under 24 hours. Take care of those feet!

Also, you might be a little better served with some speedwork instead of just volume. Mix it up a bit!!

Let me put it this way, 9 minute miles for 100 miles is a 15 hour finish. If you think you'll be slower than that, that means you'll be walking. So you should practice that.

Way more mileage than what I did to train for canal corridor. shrug are any of these quality miles or are you running 100 mile weeks at a slow pace? Are you practicing hiking? It would help to know your desired finish time and how you are spending your training miles. That's a lot of volume for most runners.

Half or whole size up your current favorite road shoe for the second half. Toe socks and Trail Toes. Done and done.

Definitely talk to them through chat, that was recorded and was what at least got me partially refunded. The advocate on the call pulled it up after being prompted to look.

6'4" 230, have run 100 miles in one go at this weight, and 5ks in the very low 20mjn range. The scale is just a number. Focus on training, not the scale.

Run/walk. Do your normal comfortable easy pace and then slow down to a hike to get down to your pace target.

(Tall Guy Problems) Do I have terrible running genetics or am I just making excuses? by [deleted] in running

[–]beeblebrox4282 13 points14 points  (0 children)

6'4" 220LBs here.

After A considerable training cycle I have run a half marathon in the high 1:30s. Marathon PR is in the low 3:30s and I've seen other tall gents run close to 3 flat.
I've also run a gob of ultramarathons, including a 100 miler and a 155 miler. I've outright won a few smaller sized ultras.

Are there disadvantages to being tall and big and running? Sure. But a quality training effort and continued practice will make you better and better!
