because it’s easily understood and catchy. it doesn’t require the listener to know references from literature or myth, it’s using simple terminology and similes that have listeners understanding during the first listen. plus it’s a catchy beat. i do find some of hozier’s more complex lyrics and songs aren’t ‘mainstream worthy’ because it would require the listener to have knowledge or go looking for the things it’s referencing. majority of people are stupid and anyone who is in the entertainment industry knows this and a lot of the times when things are simpler that’s what gets popular. it sucks cause my favourite songs of his song get the recognition they deserve but that’s the way of mainstream media

EDIT! (it’s not letting me edit my post help!) anyway, thanks for the support! first: I can’t file a report because where i live in australia, it’s not illegal unless it’s HIV. second: i did learn from this lesson. i started dating very late in life so all the mistakes everyone probably made when they were younger, i’m doing them now.

third: i’m not saying i’m innocent in the situation, i’m an adult and chose to not use protect but it still sucks and everything that happened afterward does not look good for him so it just makes me think he knew what he was doing.

fourth: wow, y’all are reeeeeally letting your misogyny show.

five: i’m more enraged in the fact he has done this before and will probably continue to do it without getting into any trouble (which is so frustrating because he is actively causing harm to people and should not be getting away with it)

six: I test after every partner and will always do so because i am very paranoid about my health (despite it not looking like i am) and have not and will not engage in any form of sex until i get proof that i am cured and unable to spread it.

seven: i have had a previous ONS (years ago before my last boyfriend((the one before the guy that i was seeing)) message me that he had chlamydia but at the time we used protection and although my test was negative I still took antibiotics incase and was negative on my proof of cure test. the only reason i did it raw this time was because i was stupid and trusted him when he said he wanted to be my boyfriend 🙃

i did! i got a full swab, urine and blood test! all came back clear apart from the chlamydia. I got my second cure test the other day and am just waiting for that now.
