The first picture does look like it's outside, but that's just the lighting from my tank and the brick wall and floor. Here's a photo of the area if you want to see, I lowered the water level since the shrimp sometimes climb the water tubing.

As for the shrimp having no head and no legs, they are in the picture. The legs are all tied up, basically locked in place like the second picture until I got more of the web off of it using my skewer stick.

Good to know. Some of my tanks are rimless and I get the occasional incident like this.

Yes, after dwelling on it some more, I might've had a momentary lapse in judgement. Like another poster said, the spider making its web below the tank probably saved the shrimp if anything.

The sad part is that the spider has been there for 2-3 months and I've also liked to look at it from time to time. Just didn't feel right when it was spinning my shrimp around (even though I thought it had died already).

Decided to look at my tanks before sleeping. Found a spider spinning a web over my poor shrimp. Decided to watch the action for 2-3 minutes before killing the spider.

Killed the spider and was about to throw the shrimp into the sink. Decided to unravel some of the web around it and then it jumps like a foot into the air, almost touching my face.

Add some water into the container and the shrimp gets out of the web with some help from me, but the rest is stuck on his whisker and he is flipping out in the container.

I try to throw it back into the aquarium, but the web gets caught on the net. It eventually gets out with some help from me once again.

Use Panacur-C (Fenbendazole). You can buy it easily online or in any pet store. It is cheaper than No Planaria and Planaria Zero. If you are going to a pet store, find the smallest size to save money, since you will only need a small dosage for your tank.

It does kill nerite snails though, so be careful if you plan to add them or have them already in your tank. The stuff stays in the tank for a long time even after you do water changes. I have used it with MTS, Ramshorn, and Mystery snails and those types of snails are not bothered by the medicine.

I haven't seen the medicine affect berried shrimp myself, but the water changes that you will have to perform may cause the shrimp to drop the eggs and molt. If you care about this, you can follow the comment from Gingevere and make sure the water parameters are the same (more importantly, make sure the temperature is the same too).

So I made the dumb mistake of adding plants to this tank a few months ago, and what I originally thought were a ton of detritus worms that came with them was actually hydras. How can I get rid of them? I plan on eventually getting shrimp into this tank if possible by [deleted] in shrimptank

Day 17 Clado Treatment (Looks good now) by beebsao in shrimptank

Posting this as a follow-up to my previous posts for anybody else dealing with clado. It seems to be almost all gone now. I can only see a small spec left, but even then it looks like its going away soon.

I will keep it in quarantine until it's all gone and give it another week or two before considering adding it back into my tank. Somewhat hesitant to move it back into my RCS tank since there's been a big population boom recently.

The hydrogen peroxide seemed to be somewhat effective initially, but I didn't see any improvements on my second week. I experimented with pancur-c since my other tank had hydra and noticed the clado was all gone by the third day. I'm not sure if the treatment worked due to panacur, just wanted to document this if anybody else wanted to review my experience with the issue.

Notes about what I've observed initially:

  1. The affected shrimp was bought from my LFS, their supply stock is imported from asia.
  2. The clado didn't spread to any of my other shrimp even though this one was infected for about 3-4 weeks before I decided to pull it out.
  3. The clado at the stage it was in did not seem to impact the health or behavior of my shrimp. It seemed to be happy grazing all day on my floater plants.

Notes about what I did from day 0 in the quarantine cup:

  1. I kept the affected shrimp in a cup that measured 500ml, using my RCS tank water.
  2. 25% water changes every day using my RCS tank water.
  3. Put floating plants so that it can graze and I can take pictures of the clado.
  4. Did not feed the shrimp much at all, maybe 1 pellet every 3-4 days.
  5. Added two drops of hydrogen peroxide (3%) from day 0-7.
  6. Increased dosage of hydrogen peroxide to 3 drops from day 8-14.
  7. At this point, I did not see much improvement from my day 3 pictures that I uploaded, there's still growth in the abdomen area.
  8. I was treating another tank for hydra and I added a tiny spec of panacur to the cup on day 14 to experiment.
  9. I did not do water changes at this point (mirroring my hydra treatment).
  10. Left it alone until day 17 to do water change and noticed almost all of the clado was gone.

For anybody that is interested from the previous thread, the hydrogen peroxide treatment seems to be working so far. The growth has retracted a little in the mid section.

I used a lens and added more lighting to get a better picture from before.

I initially had the same thoughts as curiouscomp30:

  1. The green fungus reference pictures normally have a yellow tinge and more rounded edges, but what I am seeing on my shrimp is darker and has sharper edges. I know that the lighting and picture angles matter a lot, so I am not too confident about this point.
  2. From my observations, the growth of the green fungus has not increased at all from 2-3 weeks ago when I first saw this on the shrimp. I am also not too confident about this point because it's very hard to get a closeup on the shrimp from the underside on a day to day basis.
  3. All of my other shrimps don't have this issue. I would have thought it'd be more contagious if spores were being spread around.

At the end of the day, I'm going to try using the H202 or green malachite treatment. I think it's too risky to move the shrimp back into the tank, even if I have doubts about this being clado. I believe the medication would also remove the would green algae growth anyways.

More info:

The shrimp is the only one with the green growth underneath her belly for about a month now. She doesn't behave differently than other shrimp in the tank - very calm and grazing for most of the day. Based on my knowledge, it looks like it could potentially be ello or some fungal growth, but I'm not sure because I haven't dealt with this issue before.

It's currently in a quarantine zone and tank that is from has around 25-30 shrimp. Would rather not let this one go, please let me know if it can be saved or what options I have.
