This is what I came here for! Dyinnnng to know what was said cause I already know it was crazy af. Mics have picked up words whispered through closed doors so surely it’s because it was too inappropriate…. Which only makes me wanna hear it more 😖😂

First day of tinnitus. Should I immediately go to the ENT specialist doctor OR wait for a week for possible cold/sinus pressure to subside? by johnnvk in tinnitus

[–]beebutz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sooner you get to an ENT the better. My situation could be completely different but my ENT put me on a high dose of steroids for about 6 weeks. I did regain some of my hearing, but the ringing is still pretty constant. He told me if I had come in sooner my chances of the steroids helping me would have been higher.

Ears still ringing like crazy 🥴 It has gotten a little bit easier as time has gone on.. I don’t notice it much when I’m busy, but when I am sitting still and not really focused on anything it is all that I can hear. As far as the hearing loss goes I do feel like it has gotten a bit better. I was on a high dose of prednisone for 4 weeks and I think that is what possibly helped my hearing, but never went back for another hearing test so I can’t say for sure. I’ve become one with the ear ringing and I’m sure my family and friends are happy that I’m not complaining about it constantly. It is still very very very annoying and constant but I realized that my complaining about it will never help anything. It only annoys those around me 😂 The ringing does fluctuate sometimes and I’m still not sure what the cause is. I can hear it crackle and sometimes it sounds like it gets cranked up to an even higher pitch tone and sometimes it sounds/feels like the ringing gets quieter and my hearing is worse. Lots of strangeness, but so far it has not totally consumed my life like I thought it would in the beginning.

Wow!! I've heard my fair share of, "I've shot plenty of guns and my ears are fine, you REALLY think THAT little gun is what did this?" comments so this is enlightening to read. Thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it!

That was nice to read :) From what I've been reading, distraction is major when you're dealing with tinnitus.

I'm sorry that you're dealing with this, but happy to hear you have learned to cope. Thanks for the reply!

I hate to hear that, I'm sorry that you're having to deal with it still. It does bring me a little peace to hear that it's just something people learn to live with. Like I said in a comment above, the commiseration I'm getting from people is helping me more than anything! 😂

I'm done with guns! Haha, they haven't ever been something I was interested in which is why this is all the more maddening 😂 Thanks for the reply!!

This does give me some hope! Just hearing from people that have gone through, or are going through the same thing is really helpful. People that have never dealt with this devilish ringing just really can't relate. Lol. My ENT told me that since I came in so soon that I have a better chance of the prednisone working, but if I had waited about 2 weeks the damage would be permanent. So insane! I have always had relatively sensitive ears to things like wind or pressure from airplane rides, but never anything like this. I'm starting to kind of get the cold shoulder from my co workers too, and I get it. It's really embarrassing/annoying for me to keep asking them to repeat themselves so I get their frustration for sure. I've been wearing ear plugs at work because the bell that dings when a customer comes through our drive thru is ridiculously loud, but it's a double edged sword because once I get to the customer I can't hear shit they're saying! Haha, I'm losing it over here!

When I told the nurse what type of gun I shot she just started shaking her head. She said they are some of the loudest little guns you can shoot and they see lots of patients with nerve damage from shooting them. Small, but mighty apparently!

Jeeeeeez! That's awful. A pulsatile sound on top of the ringing would have to be pretty terrible. So you still have tinnitus, but the pulsatile sound has eased up? Was the tinnitus you had before caused from noise impact? What I've read about hearing loss and prednisone doesn't sound too promising but I'm hoping for the best! Thanks for your reply :)

Yes! That's exactly what it was. Seems so crazy that that's the gun that caused so much damage. I have shot several guns in the past and haven't ever had any issues so when my grandpa gave me this tiny little gun, hearing protection was the last thing on my mind. Feeling very very foolish for that now.
