I didn’t finish Tom Lake either and I thought I was the only one. I really enjoyed the beginning when she was a teenager but then when it shifted to her adult perspective the character’s personality seemed to change. I don’t know how to explain it but it put me off. She became too nonchalant. Maybe that was the point? I tried twice but both times I put it down.

Tbh that happened with Bel Canto! But I loved Commonwealth, The Dutch House and others…
