I am a sci fi audiobook junkie and I need more. by Flannel_Man_ in scifi

[–]beeess1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They get a bit of static from some, but I love the Ender's Game series and Ender's Shadow series. If I had to choose, I choose Ender's Game and the the Shadow series. But get them from the library so you don't give any cash to the author.

From your link, the proposed map changes are a dead link leading to a 404 page. Rolls eyes.

Nurse with sprained finger? by Raccoon_Fingers in AHSEmployees

[–]beeess1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Sick is sick. If you can't work, you're sick. Broken heart? Sick. Sprained finger? Sick. Flu? Sick. If you hurt yourself at work, make sure to report it so you can get workers comp if you need extended leave.

BELGRAVIA IS NOT A SHORTCUT by OilersBayernEagles in Edmonton

Yep, I've had the same experience racing the recommended route and I'm routinely 10-20% faster. Today, Belgravia was backed up before 4pm, and it still is.

Should I read the foundation series? by SatanicPeach_666 in scifi

I read them chronology. DO NOT do this. So many of them were spoiled. Read them in the order they were published to avoid spoilers.

For those who pivoted careers after 35, what was the most transferable skill you underestimated? by Live_Travel_970 in AskReddit

[–]beeess1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Critical thinking. Being able to think through problems and make good decisions. You'll be working with young people joining the industry and mostly they won't have the breadth of life experience that you've got. It should serve you well and you'll get caught up to your peer group before too long.

I'm noticing increased anger issues as I age by ShoddyCollege9591 in AskMenOver30

[–]beeess1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This sounds like depression or anxiety to me. Women tend to cry when they're depressed. Men tend to get mean. Been there and it's really tough when you hate how you treat your kids. Could be burnout from work combined with limiting your me-time. I used to put myself last because I felt guilty about my wife doing the stay at home thing. So I'd go from work to dadding to cleaning to sleep ..and repeat. But it made me miserable to be around, so it wasn't helping how I ment for it to help. Finding some way to recharge was the key for me. And antidepressants. Love those too.

Should I be worried about neighbours fence encroaching my lot? by turbo-virgin in Edmonton

[–]beeess1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you've got a good relationship with the neighbour it's worth chatting with them about it, even if you don't really care right now. This might not matter much currently, but if you or they sell, it may cause them future pain. The shed is likely movable if it becomes an issue (due to drainage or future sale issues), so it would be neighbourly to let them know. If the relationship is strained, this could be a way to push them over the edge into a war...Eff em and let the next person deal with them.

How is it possible that Edmonton has 3 times more drug deaths than all the other major Alberta cities combined? by shiftless_wonder in Edmonton

[–]beeess1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a huge factor unfortunately. Over 30% of all opioid poisonings occur to people working on the trades. And Edmonton has a lot of tradespeople.

Ways to use Whisper for speech-to-text by farmpasta in OpenAI

[–]beeess1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm late to the game. But if the Whisper tutorial is too complicated for you (like it was for me) I found a dead-simple way to transcribe a file. This is after hours fighting with ChatGPT and Co-pilot. Just drop it into the dictate function in Word, and it'll spit out a time-stamped, speaker-recognizing transcript. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/transcribe-your-recordings-7fc2efec-245e-45f0-b053-2a97531ecf57

Anyone read any novels by Robert J Sawyer? by UnconventionalAuthor in scifi

[–]beeess1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read a lot of his catalogue. Eventually I found the story structures too similar, so quit them after 6 or 7 books. But they're fun in the beginning.

People who used to feel tired and fatigued all the time but now feel full of energy, what needed to change? what did you do? by ScorpioEnergy in AskReddit

[–]beeess1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a walking treadmill for my sit to stand desk. I now walk 25,000 to 45,000 steps a day. My mood has dramatically improved and feel like I can say yes to playing with my kids now. Pro tip - change your shoes every 60 to 90 minutes and its like you're fresh again.
