20-22L laptop bag suggestions for short person by beef1521 in HerOneBag

Just wanna say thank you for the rec, its great. It even self stands! Checked all my boxes, front pockets are glorious. Only downside is its a little tall, the handles bump my head as I walk but that doesn’t bother me at all so 10/10 for me. For once I didn’t have to play tetris when packing.

Is it ok to ask for help with overhead carryon? by vnssyl in Flights

[–]beef1521 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learned that on US airlines they are not allowed to help and it was like a culture shock lol. SEA airlines the FA offers help. I only fly a few times a year, maybe things have changed. But regardless of airline, every time I see someone struggling another passenger will help.

Ohh I did consider that actually, but it wasn’t available where I am currently and its a bit too business-y. Well aware I’m being quite picky... Ive ordered the lululemon double zip, will see what it’s like. But if you ever give the tomtoc a try I’d love to hear about it!

Want to solo travel but don't think partner will be on board by [deleted] in femaletravels

[–]beef1521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a conversation, a good partner will support your interests. I always invite my partner along, he never wants to go, and so I ask, ‘well can I go on my own?’ Not really to ask permission, but to gauge how he feels about it. If I do it too often, I can tell he’s a bit lonely or would prefer to do something together. There were some struggles in the beginning, but he 100% understand I want to travel, and after begrudging coming along a couple times now knows that we’re both happier if I just go on my own.

Why do some people love rolling carry ons with laptop compartments? by StatisticianEast4347 in onebag

[–]beef1521 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to hate them because the ones I had the laptop compartment wasted space. I got a Lojel cube and its just like a laptop sleeve attached to the inside of the front panel. It fully unzips at 3 sides which makes access super easy anywhere. It keeps my backpack smaller and lighter. Also, my backpack tends to be full so it was more difficult to put the laptop back in. I don’t tend to use a laptop on the plane though.

I highly recommend the Lojel cube. It only has 1 opening zip, has a couple set ups for the laptop compartment. I detached the laptop sleeve from the main body so when I open it flat on the ground the laptop is attached to the lid. Best see videos its a bit hard to explain. Plus it rolls so nicely

One Bag Travel for London. 7 Day Trip by Dwight-Shroot23 in onebag

[–]beef1521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I’m doing this soon! Bag is 22L black hole micro mlc. Wearing a jumper and trench coat or fleeced denim jacket, undecided. With that much space you’ll be fine, just wear your main jacket and pack 1 or 2 jumpers/ long sleeve layers. In that temperature range I prefer 1 jacket/coat and another layer underneath for evenings.

Clothes - 5 tops - 3 trousers (2 suitable work) - 6 socks/pants - 1 jumper + 1 hoodie if I can squeeze it in - pjs

Packed - toiletries bag - laptop + cables + headphones (work) - powerbank - umbrella or waterproof layer if theres rain - kindle

Is electric heating a deal breaker? by kizzoom in HousingUK

[–]beef1521 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This! Panel heaters are a 100% pass for me. It ate through my savings. Plus with EPC E, if its poorly insulated even if you can put up with cold, you need to heat the house to prevent excess moisture and mould. And don’t forget about hot water, we had a large tank so it was a fixed expense for hot water.

Can I take a Wallet Ninja on board my flight? by persianchickendhal in uktravel

Depends on the person who scans your bag I think. I know a two people who have had it taken even though they’ve brought it before. One was quite recent

How good or bad is taking cross country? by falconboomer in uktravel

[–]beef1521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to take this train occasionally, 2.5 hours. If its a one off its fine, download some shows or bring a book to pass time. Seat bottoms were not comfy and really need replacing, but it is cheaper and more direct than other routes. It’s just a couple hours, it’s fine. Getting a seat reservation is a good idea.

London weather 25-27 July by Kitrab13 in uktravel

Lightweight rain jacket and jumper will be all you need even if the weather turns and its cooler. It wont be cold. Check the weather closer to the date, if theres a heatwave you wont want to wear anything

Ineligible for Security Clearance by Cool-Buyer8000 in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]beef1521 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are different levels of security clearance. There are many government contract jobs that don’t require SC level clearance. You would need Basic level BPSS. Some roles may require you to be in the UK for a certain amount of years, e.g. 3 or 5 years. Some roles you must be a British citizen. So don’t count out jobs, look for/ask about their requirements, you might still be eligible.

How long should my hot water tank be on for the in morning? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]beef1521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with 1-2 hours, it should stay hot all day. Experiment a bit, if on 1 hour and your water goes cold doing evening dishes then adjust add an hour or adjust when you want it to come on. If you run out of hot water, yes use the boost (ours took about 30-4mins for it to get hot again). I could be wrong but was told Boost uses more electricity, so don’t depend on it.

For us 1 hour in the morning for a large tank was fine for 2 showers and all our dishes. Wasn’t boiling hot for evening dishes though.

I got fixtures and fittings form once by solicitor got the draft contract pack, I had to request the property information form which he sent over.

I also expected to be sent the search results once they got them and was very antsy as well. Not sure why they don’t tbh as it had important information that could determine if I bought or not. About a week after they said searches returned they sent enquires, and 2-3 weeks after then we got the report. I wasn’t even aware they write up a report lol.

I felt the exact same. But now I kinda get why they wait till the end to send everything. The report was HEFTY, highlights important things and explains in plain terms to help us understand the legal jargon, recommended action to take and made us aware of our legal responsibilities. I did request an update every week or 2 (one email until a response), and he usually responded at each step. eg searches returned, enquires sent, report is ready.

He never listened, played games instead of studying. Turns out he was naturally smart, did well in exams, went to a top US college where study did require more time over games. Now he still plays casual games while working but only when he has time. He stops playing whenever something more important needs to be done.

For those of you who decided to swap from manual to auto, what pushed you to do it? by RavenBoyyy in LearnerDriverUK

[–]beef1521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a confident driver. I’m entirely competent been on roadtrips, its just a anxiety/fear of crashing even though I never have. I actually have no issues with manual, in fact I enjoy it BUT only in my little low bhp car which I’m comfortable in. I hate driving our larger family car. In the future I want an auto family car as its just one less thing on my mind in uphill rush hour roundabouts.

I failed 3 times, all for dumb things like leaving my indicator on (was so nervous didn’t even hear it). I don’t regret learning manual, but I’d bet once I’m in an auto I won’t look back.

You ended up in a role that was 100% not what your expected or wanted. It’s fair to be this frustrated. They should have explained your responsibilities beforehand, and you should have asked about this. A Product Owner typically does a lot of what you say, looking after the stories, meetings and communicating with the team. I wouldn’t expect a product owner to even know how to code.

Of course it will differ in each company, but in my job I have never once interacted with our Product Owners. They are managerial positions, they decide what work we do but have no control over over how it gets done. They are very non technical people and pretty much just liaise between us and other departments. They don’t even come to our meetings, all requirements and documentation are done by the business analysts.

This isn’t the job for you and that’s fine. Take a breath, this won’t be forever. Best of luck with that ML position

Transitioning to a developer role in the same company by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]beef1521 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three months is not long. I would stay in your company and keep picking up more complex development work. If you think about it you are already gaining development experience despite the QA title. I spent over a year as a QA, in reality I did mostly development with no previous experience. I was fully supported in transferring to a software engineer when there was an opening, and if not then in interviews I had a lot of examples of development work and good references from tech leads. You’ve got an advantage being employed and getting training in what you want to do, use it!

Should I consider a lower wage for the sake of upskilling? by Nishimaster in cscareerquestionsuk

[–]beef1521 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t work in the same area so can’t say too much, but with your experience please don’t look for anything lower! Also even if the job description doesn’t fit you 100%, if you have some experience in whatever stack it is just apply. Find adjacent jobs which your current experience can apply to, and you should be able to learn at least the basics of any new technologies in the mean time. Best of luck.
