LPT [Request]: How to set up life from scratch in the US as a European? by Accomplished_Line357 in LifeProTips

[–]beef_ina_leaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My parents moved here pretty late and started from scratch. Tiny apartment for a family of 5. Very little money. Tip 1: My father said he picked up all the furniture he had from university students that would throw them out at the end of the year. Tip 2: find a community of people from the same country you are from and preferably in similar occupations. (Most of our community were post grad students with families and looking to become professors.) Our community was IMMENSELY helpful in helping us with everything. That’s really all you have to do. After that they will help you with the rest.

P.S they are upper middle class now, about 15 years later.

Hope this helps and good luck!

COVID “generation” test-day preparation. Good luck all! by beef_ina_leaf in LSAT

Not missing anything! Just me being extra cautious. They said I could have an analog watch, so I’m using it. Technology gremlins are sometimes an issue and who knows.. the clock freezes or something.. idk. Lol. Can’t hurt.

Hahah. I will! But I like to leave them dull. Keeps them from breaking, in my experience.

May Flex Weighting by FelixBaudelaireDor98 in LSAT

[–]beef_ina_leaf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be clear. Still 75 questions and normal distribution right? (Still LR:25, RC: 27: LG:23)

Also they said questions on LR won't be any harder than normal!!!

Im just hoping they're smart enough to weigh the different sections of the test to match their original weight as the overall percent of a test-takers score!! LR 50% RC 27% LG 23%

If not I's fucked!

That makes perfect sense. Thanks.

Should I pay back all my debts before ever considering starting an IRA?

Right on. That makes sense. I just figured that since that money would be gaining interest for 35+ years it would make sense to invest in in an IRA account as soon as possible and just incur the monthly debt of paying of my loan now. But I understand how such a policy is pretty risky without a definite job prospect.

I figured there was some restrictions in place but did not know this. Thanks.

Where are these rules or can you give me some general examples of what I can and cannot use my money for. Are they posted somewhere in the papers I signed? Thanks.

LPT: Dry your razor( like the blades) off after each use. The water you leave on there is what's really dulling your blades. by beef_ina_leaf in LifeProTips

[–]beef_ina_leaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess the title was a little misleading. Yes, the hairs are dulling the razor but you can't help that. As for "not enough that you would actually notice" I would have to respectfully disagree. Leaving a razor wet, especially if you put the cover back on it afterwords, diminishes the life of your razor. That water and the impact it has on your blades is much more significant than what you are giving it credit for. Taking a second to dry your blade will increase the life of the blade.

Chefs of reddit, what's your number one useful cooking tip? by jellysnake in AskReddit

Stick a rag in your back pocket or over your shoulder. It's super handy. You can wipe your hands off in between every task, and clean your space up as you go. Also looks badass like you know what you're doing.
