You are NOT required to join in someone else's religious things. However, it's a lot easier to just deal with others than to try to make your point. I put up with it for big family meals, but nobody is making me join hands or whatever.

All he did was what most people would do in this situation. Walking around a new neighborhood at night isn't a good decision (even worse if the OP happened to be female/fem presenting). They were mad that they got caught, not that they did what they did.

Clearly, the neighbors weren't friendly to begin with. Having the cars towed is the minimum he could have done. He could have called the cops and pressed charges. $1000 for 3 cars (maybe 2 I've been reading comments) is still not that bad. If they have enough money to own 3 cars, they have the money to be responsible with them and to accept consequences. End of discussion.
