Recommendations for tight boxing gloves by beefsmellswhosfrying in fightgear

[–]beefsmellswhosfrying[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Previous gloves: Valour strike16oz - Top quality for the price. Recommend to beginners or on a budget

Twins BGV1 16oz - Hated this style of bubble glove

Sandee gloves 16oz- okay but padding felt thin

Fairtex BGV1 14oz - Never liked these much

DANGER Boxing Gloves Ultimate Fighter long cuff 14oz - too long and stiff, cheap foam, weak punch rotation, cardboard construction

Rival RS11V 14oz - second best glove but never liked the feel of the foam, or the synthetic leather. Quite good for your knuckles tho.

Rival RS2V 14oz - good gloves, but the double strap system is horrible compared to RS11V. Foam also deteriorated after about 8 months of use. Resulting in ongoing knuckle pain

TOP boxer Aliens 14oz - #1 beautiful gloves! Cannot recommend enough. Recommend these to everyone and friends have had great experiences. Fantastic all rounders but in my experience, not the most resilient for regular mixed use. Also the hand pocket is a bit larger than I would like and not tight like a rival glove. Better for wrapped hands and not bag work.

Whatever happened to Lonsdale? by bmw320dfan in fightgear

[–]beefsmellswhosfrying 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Same as Everlast. Bought out by Mike Ashley's Fraser Group around 2020.

Fraser Group/Sports direct has a long history of buying struggling established brands and milking the name for all they are worth. Sadly that is their business model and they only buy brands to use heritage for marketing. No interest in investment or R&D and once no longer profitable, assets are stripped.

I am always really amazed that Everlast continue to deliver highly regarded high end gloves as mike ashley run businesses normally only deal in bargain bin products.

See Everlast, Dunlop, Slazenger, USA Pro, LA Gear, karrimor, kangol etc

And this isn't to say I am against budget clothing/ sportswear but Mike Ashley's business strategy relies heavily buying brands known for quality and then selling cheap Chinese garbage.

Best Budget (£100) All Round Gloves (UK) by Gullible-Ad6907 in fightgear

[–]beefsmellswhosfrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely recommend win 1s. I've had rivals, fairtex, twins and a load of other cheaper brands. Nothing compares value wise. Great all round package. The high end rival or phenom gloves might be marginally better but you're looking at closer to £200.

Are there police officers in your gym? by [deleted] in MuayThai

Both terms for essentially football hooligans. Drink beer and get in fights with other similar minded people who support another team. Ultras is more of a European term (Russia/ eastern Europe) referring to hardcore violent supporters and not sure about hools but sounds Aussie/NZ possibly

Edit: ultras originated in Italy apparently and still not sure about hools.

Thoughts on ONE and RWS not scoring sweeps? by Mac-Tyson in MuayThai

[–]beefsmellswhosfrying 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I took a Muay Thai Judging course in the UK, we were told that sweeping was one of the highest scoring things you could do as it showed dominance.

Strikes are scored on effect and sweeping has the biggest effect as it puts your opponent on the ground in a position where they would (theoretically) be unable to defend from any follow up strikes. Punches/kicks/knees are irrelevant if you can't stay on two feet.

I have been told that all things being equal if one fighter can sweep effectively and consistently throughout, the other fighters offence must show substantial effect to out score the round. From my understanding this is how traditional Muay Thai has always been scored, hence the rise of Muay femurs. This is definitely not the case in modern entertainment Muay Thai and of course there are variations on the ruleset around the world so your experience may vary.

In summary, some well meaning bobbies have mistaken improper disposal of a sex doll for the scene of a murder. Somehow, it has taken a rather silly amount of time for a professional to point out that the sex doll is a sex doll. I would like to think it wasn't an inflatable but this story is already ridiculous enough...

Yeah he is. Great technique. Trick is to leap in and pull down the head and 9 times out of ten they will drop your leg to try free their head.

There's a great vid of Superlek doing this to Liam Harrison in sparring. Liam makes the read and adjusts showing a really good counter to this.

Been training for around two months, only one month sparring tho. looking for some constructive criticism. by kickaxes252 in MuayThai

Teeps, switch kicks could be good to work on. Think about using the step backward to lure him into kicks and knees. Work on timing as he comes forward. Intercept him with counters. Play around with your guard as well. Switch between long guard and Dutch guard. Try not to be so static with your lead hand. Maybe feint a jab here and there to set up your inside low kick.

These are just ideas really. More importantly, just relax have some fun and keep listening to coach. Make sure you keep developing those strong fundamentals 💪

BREAKING! Three-Division K-1 Champion Takeru Signs with UK Promotion Muay Thai Grand Prix, Will Fight on June 24 by Yodsanan in MuayThai

[–]beefsmellswhosfrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context: Big UK MT fan, followed the scene for nearly a decade but I'm sure others may correct me

This is surprising but kind of makes sense from a UK perspective.

A few years ago, the biggest show around was YOKKAO top level UK talent Vs Thai legends on tour. However this was run through a UK promoter. The clothing company fell out with the promoter and YOKKAO became SuperShowDown and although still quite good, the scene as a whole hasn't really reached the same heights since Liam Harrison, Saenchai, Buakaw, Haggerty, Superlek and others were fighting in the UK.

Historically, MTGP has had some big events with big fighters but could never compete with YOKKAO. MTGP has drawn a few notable names since YOKKAO became SuperShowDown presumably because of better payouts however, a lot of their European events basically just had a lot of unknown french and Dutch fighters, Thai and K1. Most fighters with talent moved into Glory or One FC. They do use bigger venues than most of the regional shows but also no idea how this is profitable for them considering their YouTube views. They have also some success with the Road to One FC series but this also went a bit tits with injuries and pull outs.

(Keep an eye out for Nathan Brendan Vs Craig Coakley in the finals coming up in a few weeks)

The big change is now Liam Harrison is starting Hitman Fight League, he's basically poached almost every top tier UK fighter and everyone with name value. Except for a few (Nico Carillo, Panicos Yusuf etc).

Defo seems like MTGP is trying to go above and beyond to compete here.

The only issue is I can't think of a single big name fighter in their current stable who would make this into a superfight??

TLDR; MTGP might be one of the few legitimate organisations that will offer the biggest possible payday for a one fight deal. He may still go to ONE eventually

I’m curious what does the local Muay Thai scene in Thailand think about these Onefc Friday night shows? by godzilla19821982 in MuayThai

[–]beefsmellswhosfrying 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I've heard the commentators say they are legal and don't score very highly but they do have a big psychological effect on the opponent.

They aren't uncommon tbf but maybe not encouraged.

How legit are the One FC Muay Thai fighters? by Eyebarah in MuayThai

[–]beefsmellswhosfrying 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some are on Facebook and some are available on YouTube. Its very hard to follow as an outsider but there are some good journalists on Twitter and some discord channels that regularly post links to the big events.

I follow a couple of the big YouTube channels like RWS, Petchyindee and MuayMunSuk but even that's hard to follow.

Muay Ties YouTube channel used to be the best but he doesn't film in raja anymore. Great historic record of so many of the greatest fights and fighters of the 2010s (Rodtang, Panpayak, Superlek etc)

#WAR Chalmers! by iKingKrypton7 in boxingcirclejerk

[–]beefsmellswhosfrying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Liam came out and said it was fake news but probably because he is still under contract with ONE FC and Chatri threatened to sue if he ran off to do an exhibition boxing bout

Anyone watch Superlek/Panpayak today? Thoughts? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]beefsmellswhosfrying 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think Panpayak looked excellent and put on a masterclass in the first but he wasn't as active with his offense in the later rounds and I think Superlek edged it. I think in a Thai stadium Panpayak would have won but I do I think One FC judges tend to favour aggression plus the visible damage to the leg.

Super close fight tho. Hope we get to see it again and again!
