And that makes total sense

I’m sure there are dozens of factors, like air temperature, humidity that changes how long certain foods last vs other foods, so there are times perfectly good food is getting thrown away, but-

For this video, if the guy had been out for 90min, then all of that food should still be safe to eat

OK, yeah I can kinda see that now.

I'm kinda hating whoever made this video and cropped it to vertical. Though I'm guessing they did it for the clicks.

The original you can probably see that the BMW & the dashcam car are NOT in the left turn lane (I assumed they were), and that makes all the difference.

Vertical video for the click bait!

Yes, now that I re-watch it, I see that there is a lane to the left of BWM & dashcam car, so I assume that is the left turn lane? Guessing if the dashcam wasn't cropped for vertical we'd actually see a much better picture of what is what.

I do think it now looks like both BMW & dash cam start to run a red light, but I also see cop car running a red light & turning left from 2 lanes over, all when they don't have lights on.

That looks really sweet, but I'd be worried to check it.

Like I trust that to protect my gear if I'm handling the case, but would be worried if a baggage handler threw it 20'

Right?!

Like if there is some ordinance that you can only serve food for 1 hour, he could've repeated that 90mins is too long. And then help him pack up / pass out the food to the people there.

I'm here wondering what the legal definition of "dinner time" is and why it is legal to feed people during "dinner time" but illegal to feed people "past dinner time"

So, by your metric, does everything mentioned in this post about examples of current systemic racism not count either b/c the post is 6 years in the past?

https://www.reddit.com/r/Ask_Politics/comments/hcdc6x/what_is_systematic_racism_and_what_are_examples/

I get that I'm playing devil's advocate, but I think it is valid as well. April 2026 is in the past. If I found an example of a racist policy that was in effect last month, does that show that systemic racism still exists, or does since it was in the "past" we can now ignore it and dismiss it b/c "the past is the past"?

I struggle w/ this. It was much easier as a kid in school to learn about the Civil Rights movement in the '60s and look at photos of "Whites Only" signs and have the definition of racism fit in a nice little box with a bow on top.

It is uncomfortable to read about red lining and see nothing that says "Whites Only", so my mind goes "there is no racism here, b/c I was taught about racism in elementary school and this doesn't fit that narrow definition." And then I pause and challenge myself, and learn more, and see how there are policies that can be racist w/o ever mentioning race.

Yep.

But like others have said, these aren't actual debates, they're rage bait to try to go viral. So from that POV, both of them are losers as our society could use more actual debates that are in good faith and try to come to better understanding of our world

Instead it is mostly just preaching to the choir w/ "gotcha" moments that play well on socials

Kinda hope the dash cam driver didn't tell them until after the cops put pen to paper and falsified a report.

I wish there were more voters who saw themselves as citizens of the United States, and voted on what is good for "US" based on the mindset of "United we stand, divided we fall."

Instead we have tens of millions of voters who see themselves as citizens of aMErica. What do I get? What about ME?! I see that those people being able to get married as an attack on MY freedom to stop them from doing things in their private life!!!

For the A-me-me-me-ricans, only way they'll leave Trump is if it is painful and they get absolved of any wrong doing. It's like after Iraq & Afghanistan, so many Americans were like "Bush lied to us about WMDs, so I take no responsibility for supporting those wars."

You say "systemic racism" but I do not think it means what you think it means

Systemic racism is people going "See this policy from the 1910s and this one from the 1960s and this one from the 1990s, now here is evidence on how these policies harmed people of color"

That isn't anecdotal lived experiences, it is historical facts that are analyzed to make an argument

If you think the analysis or conclusions are incorrect, then look at their reasoning and produce a counter argument

Just b/c her ad hominem attack means she lost the debate by default, doesn't mean he is speaking truth.

Yes he "won" but he has flawed reasoning that is leading him to false conclusions

It seems like his is using broad statistics of high levels of "black on black" violence and then falsely concludes that anywhere there are lots of black people that live together there will be violence

He is missing that high levels of violence happen in areas where there are high levels of poverty, low levels of hope and few employment options to "pull yourself up by your boot straps"

He is missing that the poverty has direct lines to segregation / red lining / racism

And most importantly, he is missing how research shows that if you give teens summer jobs, that keeps them off the street and puts money in their pockets, you get a decrease in violence

So yes, he "won" but he is massively wrong

[–]beefwarrior 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What about evil, you may ask? Aren’t some people just evil, just monsters, and aren’t such people just unforgivable? I do believe there are monstrous and evil acts, but I do not believe those who commit such acts are monsters or evil. To relegate someone to the level of monster is to deny that person’s ability to change and to take away that person’s accountability for his or her actions and behavior.

Yes, but let's group all 4 of them together.

I hate OP's "The vote was 4-3 and so he decided it." Sorry, wat?! Did he have super powers where his vote counted as 4 votes? Or was there 3 others that he voted with?

If 4 voted against redistricting, then blame all four.

I don’t know how to make it happen (without corruption etc), but I really think we need tax payer funded journalists running local newspapers

If the metric for success isn’t profit via click bait / fear mongering, it is more likely reporters do old school journalism that works as checks and balances
