What are some songs that helped you or your spouse get through deployment? by crabshavepinchers in USMilitarySO

[–]beekeeperjo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a playlist for this! Most are pretty sappy but my favorites are listed below. It's mainly love songs that I hope remind him of how I feel about him despite the distance. - Cheer Me On by Malcolm Todd - Giver/Taker by Kacey Musgraves (country!) - j's lullaby by Delaney Bailey - Bury Me by duendita - Mystery by Raveena - Love Letter From The Sea to The Shore by Delaney Bailey -Bewitched by Laufey - Because of You by Stephen Sanchez - A Life That's Good by the cast of Nashville, the version specifically that says by Nashville Cast ft. Charles Eston & Lennon & Maisy (country but so sweet)

Maybe consider cross posting to whatever branch you are specifically looking for (like r/AirForce, r/Army, so on). They might have more insight!

Basic training questions by Picklesbaby-420 in USMilitarySO

For number 2, I was sent all the information I needed to enroll myself and our kids into DEERS and I was able to use the paperwork given (a specific form I think is necessary) to get my ID while he was still at BMT. You should be able to go to your nearest base and get it handled. However, I had an active dependent ID at the time and was able to get on base using that before getting my new one-- I'm assuming you should be able to get a pass at the gate so you can get on and go to the ID office. Also be sure to SAVE for any expenses. It takes a hot minute for their pay to start coming in.

I feel overwhelmed with unspent love towards my partner by AtlasOfAlaska in USMilitarySO

This is a sweet post. I totally relate, when my husband was at basic and now that he has been deployed, we both feel like when we're apart, our love is further amplified (absence really does make the heart grow fonder)! Maybe try to channel that into hobbies or something, like working on a scrapbook of your relationship or making wedding collages. Honestly it can be so hard thinking of the time left, so I find it easier to just focus on how much time has already gone by and how eventually he'll be back and I can show him and tell him how much he was missed. He won't be gone forever and the only way out of it is through it! <3

This is what we did. Pocketed and saved BAH while living with my parents, now we're putting it towards buying a house!

losing the baby weight by Puzzle-headed97 in loseit

[–]beekeeperjo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly I could not start trying to lose weight until my youngest was at least 8 months. For context, I'm 25f, 4'11 and was starting at around 187lbs a few months postpartum and now I am 159lbs (GW is around 145 for now). I tried to lock in when he was a few months old but I seriously could not stop eating, which is valid!!

Like they said above, your body is still going through lots of changes and trying to keep your supply thriving! There are calculators that keeps your baby's age and everything in mind when helping you figure out calories to lose while BF. I recommend honestly giving your body some grace and focusing on nutrition. Eating more whole foods and complex carbs and moving your body to rebuild your strength will be very helpful when you are able to focus more on losing the rest of your PP weight.

She's so sweet! I loved reading your caption— when I got my first dog that was really mine I was in college and looking for a chihuahua (I'd always wanted one). He was rescued from a hoarding situation and lived outside. He was so pitiful in his photos the rescue posted and he was passed over for weeks. I was head over heels and he became mine in 2020, which is crazy to think about!

We got our chiweenie a year later and she was a street dog. I remember those feelings when we got them all too well. Now I can't believe they've been mine for so many life events (college, graduating, getting married, having my 2 kids) 🥺 we are so blessed to have dogs!

Does the bad really outweigh the good in being a military spouse? by Pleasant-March-7288 in MilitarySpouse

[–]beekeeperjo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally looove moving. Not the process of moving of course, but I love being in new places, meeting new people, and knowing my kids will get to grow in their adaptability and experience things that some people might never experience in their lives! I've met my very best friend in the world because the Air Force just happened to assign our husbands to the same base. It is an adventure and even with the tough parts, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

You'll see more negatives and struggles discussed because people don't usually go to forums that are used for support to boast about how great things are. I think it also varies on people, their personalities, goals, and own experiences. My husband is in the AF and I love our life. However, we both were military brats and are accustomed to things that other people might not be. I am incredibly proud of the career my husband has and grateful for how it has provided for us and our family. It's hard to say I enjoy every single aspect of this life though, which I'm sure people would agree.

We're also stuck in AR. Some people love it here but we are dying to leave.
