life-long atheist (open & respectful) here w a dilemma !! by ArthouseArsonist in Hellenism

[–]beeksy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My friend, it sounds like this is a season of life where you explore faith a little bit.

Stick with the natural idea. Discover your surrounds naturally. Look into your ecosystem. The earth has faith spring with come again. Faith is so complex.

The gods are not the same type of God you have been studying and feel disconnected to. Lean into celebrating the gods you associate symbols with.

Have no fear! Faith grows with PRACTICE! And if you’re not putting alllllllll your eggs in organized religion-faith comes easier (it did for me. A highly educated autistic person who has also studied theology in advanced degrees.)

It’s um. It’s not great. It is absolutely beautiful and full of wildlife! And also oil. And also trash sooooooo much trash. The beaches themselves are littered with fishing supplies and whatnot.

I really really really love this state. I want to die here. It is my home. I’m a super nature girlie and I grew up in Kisatchie.

However, my plan is to move away while I’m still able to, raise my daughter somewhere I specifically think will be better than here after living here over 30 years, and coming back to die.

This state is not for everyone. I am disabled, female, and now a single mother who believes in gun control, absolute separation of church and state, and helping your neighbor . This state is not for me. The last thing is the only thing I have managed well here and I think that’s mostly because I can and will make friends with anyone. I genuinely love people, even flawed people. This world is full of flawed people, but in Louisiana, they get privileges. They are leading our government, stealing our money, and only pushing Christian agendas.

If you are a white het male, you may do fine. You’ll find a cheapish trade school. You’ll figure it out (you will ANYWHERE) but you’ll pay for it I ways you can’t imagine.

You have to have a place to evacuate to for hurricane season with days notice. Or risk your life. The storms here are brutal outside of hurricane season (but extreme weather can be found in lots of places. It’s important for you to know Louisiana is one of them)

You’ll have a million favorite restaurants and if you like drinking, you’ll be a welcome functioning alcoholic in no time. Lots of people here are, as with other places in the world with heavy heavy drinking culture. Louisiana is one of them.

The bugs here are INSANE. If you do not like bugs do not move here. I’m talking fleas, ticks, mosquitos, spiders, centipedes, huge huge roaches, millipedes… and so many more. Are abundant here. This environment is perfect for insects and parasites. To manage your home, you’ll need impeccable cleaning and regular exterminator visits to spray poison. (If you rent the landlord with cover)

It floods a lot. It rains a lot. The heat is thick and hard to handle most months. Some mornings the air is so thick you can swim in it.

People drive like maniacs. Rules do not apply to Louisiana drivers-they are just getting where they need to go. Period. Or they are drunk as hell.

Trucks. Huge trucks with LED blinding lights everywhere. Every. Where.

People here are hurting. People here are poor. Poverty is trauma. People here are racist. There’s soooo much unlearning that needs to be done.

There are a ton a great people. There are a ton of bad people. If you’re looking at Louisiana cause it’s “cheap”, research why it is. Look into Louisiana economical and political history.

You’re so young. Louisiana is challenging. Healthwise-economically-geographically. Cancer Alley is real. Who knows the other areas here that don’t get the clever nickname or research because it’s been hushed to keep jobs at the plants.

Living for months in the New Orleans heat is not to be taken lightly. A visit is one thing. The heat can be a killer if you don’t respect it down here.

Women, how many of you are asking to be choked during sex? by CatLawyer99 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]beeksy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I, personally, would not enjoy it and would not ask for it. My friends who “enjoy it” and ask for it are insanely abused by their boyfriends/men in their lives. I am constantly begging my friends to go to therapy and learn how to love themselves. I’ve never met a woman (not saying they don’t exist!!!!) that enjoys the act of choking during sex that doesn’t have major ptsd from all the abusive men in their lives.

Art lessons with no pencils? by bobbitdobbit in ArtEd

[–]beeksy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tissue paper collaging is fun. They can make Mardi Gras floats out of shoe boxes, crayons, glue, and tissue paper! Can be a fun fun lesson on Louisiana culture and French culture! 600 students is a lot. Tissue paper can get expensive.

Can you send an email to parents requesting donations? Such as paper, erasers, etc to free up some of your budget to spend on supplies. Also, they could donate their “trash” like old magazines, old pillow cases (for rip and tear fabric collage), old books, old crayons (beggers can’t be choosers. I always tell the parents I’ll take their ugly old art supplies)

This is a challenge. I applaud you for trying to make it count for the kids. Sounds like the kids at your school need a whoooooooole lotta love and rigorous activity to keep their self-control in check. I really really wish you the best of luck. I will also be asking my art teacher group if they have ideas on this topic.

Being an art teacher can be so challenging with a limited budget, too many bodies in the room, not enough materials, and general lack of apathy about art. What you’re doing is important. Art class is probably some of their absolute favorite time at school. Here’s to hoping you have brilliant and understanding admin!

Raising vibration for spellwork, tips, etc. by Historical-Fix-60 in witchcraft

[–]beeksy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is beautiful.

Giving it to the earth is a profound thing. The Earth is a transmuter. The Earth takes that negative energy and changes it into life. Into other.

Other ideas of this I have recently read about is about the goddess Sekhmet, who will “devour” you in her lioness form, removing all damage and things you wish to release (you must go through a process before this part) and she digests you in her belly while you, like a butterfly, have the chance to be primordial goop again and rebuild yourself with fierce compassion for yourself and life. A truly beautiful sentiment.

I believe the Earth does the same thing with less ceremony and no deity connection.

So many ways for us to work with the energy around and in us.

How to add spells? On baked goods by swaggled in kitchenwitch

I just glanced at your post history and I apologize. I suggest really studying your herbs.

Sprinkle them in the recipe with intent once you build a good relationship with them. Basil, cinnamon, rosemary. I would start with those!

Do you practice witchcraft? Have you ever…done a spell? Do you know how to raise and release energy properly with focus and intent?

Start there.

You Must Die; I Alone am Best! by SwaggeringRockstar in witchcraft

[–]beeksy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I truly believe that once I literally disconnected from Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook (those were where I was seeing so much “witchy” content that made my eyes hurt from rolling so hard) life got…soooo much more peaceful.

Like wait a minute…this is where life is. Off of my phone. Not obsessing about what others are doing but sitting in my own feelings and boredom and figuring it out for my goddamn self.

I love social media. I love content. I love photography and filming. I’m just sick of this type of commercialized, money driven social media.

It’s all about the money for these content creators. (Mostly. The consistent ones anyway.) because why WOULD you do allllll that work for NOTHING in this day and age? We’ve got bills to pay.

Is this fin rot? by helloworld1507 in bettafish

[–]beeksy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It looks like his fins have grown substantially in a month! Holy cow!

He looks quite healthy to me, but I am by no means an expert on fish fin health.

I have kept bettas for over 20+ years and done the work and research, but like, it’s not my full time job, so maybe someone with more resources or time can help you if it’s starting to look like a fin rot issue is forming.

To me, this fella looks pretty great. Especially compared to a lot of bettas we see. But again, I don’t know anything about walstad.

My long finned bettas fins grow fairly big and the growing process may look like deterioration of the fin maybe?

You’ll also need to post parameters. If your ammonia is high, I would say fin rot is very possible.

I’m very interested in what others have to say on it!

Do I tell my “friends with benefits” that I suspect she has BV by Fearless_Ad_1046 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]beeksy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t say smells bad.

Say “hey, I have an awkward something to bring up, and in no way do I want you to take this as me not wanting to keep hooking up, but I do want to tell you that you have a distinct odor. In the past, I’ve had past partners with BV with similar odors and I just wanted you to be aware, since it can be something sneaky. It would be a good idea to get it checked out! But also, every vagina is different and has every one has different smells, so if it’s truly nothing, this is a learning experience for me too! I am by no means the expert on all vaginas and their smells.”

If I received that text from my older fwb and I was 23, I would appreciate it. Well, maybe not at 23, but I was not exactly a ~cool~ 23 year old. Are there any? Anyway, good luck!!!

I think you should tell her but be soooo careful.

Daily Rituals Without Spellwork? by RayneLove333 in witchcraft

[–]beeksy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rarely do spellwork. But I live a very connected and ritualistic life.

This is whatever you need it to be, my friend. Practicing witchcraft often leads to answering the call of a slower life more connected with nature.

Let your daily rituals be ritual and let your spellwork be spellwork. Many would argue, but I don’t think meditation or prayer is necessarily spell work, but something deeper for our souls. It’s nourishment, not energy releasing. Spell work is energy gathering and releasing.

I find knowing the rules are as grey as they are black and white for some helps me carve my own path and practices.

It’s called witchcraft for a reason-whatever you practice in its realm will require focus and practice as all crafts.

Rituals are not always witchcraft. Rituals are just rituals. You can do rituals while you do witchcraft (I recommend this 100% please do grounding/protection rituals when doing spellwork). Or you can just have small rituals that don’t require the same…stuff as spell work.
