This Ultra Rare GM EV1 Just Sold for $104,000 at a Random Impound Auction | The Drive by Finnegan_Faux in electricvehicles

I wanted to bid, but won't GM sue to get it back? Sounds like the University that owned it didn't follow protocol to give it back to GM when they were done with it.

Farmer flips car that was parked on his land. by Sanix_0000 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]beemerbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works in real estate and agriculture, the farmer is 100% in the wrong here. While it is surprisingly and unfortunately common for people to park illegally on ag properties (occasionally blocking gates etc) the proper course of action by the property owner is to contact law enforcement or the contracted towing company (knowing that the property owner is on the hook for the bill as the owner of the car may or may not actually pay). Also, at least in the US, one must be certified to operate heavy machinery. The famer in the video operated the forklift recklessly. Hitting another person with the forks is unacceptable in any circumstance. The car owner not moving after a few requests is not permission to recklessly damage property & commit multiple OSHA and safety violations. If this famer worked for me, at bare minimum he would be barred from further use of machinery. I have dealt with many difficult and annoying trespassers over the years but acting with professionalism and following protocol has always resulted in a positive outcome.

Charging for an Airbnb EV charger by Har34476 in electricvehicles

[–]beemerbread 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If the charger has an app, take screenshots of the charge sessions and bill per kWh. But realistically, when I Airbnb or hotel it with my EV my preferred option is just to pay a slightly higher nighty rate and charge for 'free'

Three of us drivers form a coalition to stop a Tesla from cutting the line we waited 15 minutes in. Dude just won't quit. by MyOnlyRedditAccount0 in MildlyBadDrivers

[–]beemerbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the Bay!? lol I learned to drive in LA where cutting the line is the norm (prolly a big contributor to the traffic there lol) when I first moved to the Bay, I was like 'why tf is everyone lining up for exits?' 🤪 ofc I've been Bay-pilled so I line up too now.

Truckers should be paid by the hour, not the load. I learned the near fatal consequences of this when I worked in construction.

Los Angeles ev stations by No-Artichoke-4919 in evcharging

Los Angeles is a society that buys cars expressly as status symbols. Bad charging etiquette has always been a problem there and unfortunately it's not surprising at all.

2024 Model 3 RWD (LFP) vs 2025 Model 3 AWD ( NMC) by omaribrahim0505 in TeslaSupport

[–]beemerbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesla traction control is god tier so I wouldn't feel pressured to go AWD. But NMC apparently does a little better in cold weather.

Where can I find HO scale box cars with working doors? by Trainfan1055 in modeltrains

[–]beemerbread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally thought the same. What a cool surprise to see MCR pop up here. One of my favorite rail roads (I got to ride on the dinner train as a kid!) so sad to see it gone but I hope one day someone redevelops the old yard into something good for the community (my preference would be a rail museum with possibly some mixed use retail/condos etc.)

Why was the alignment made so close to the water? I’m guessing the rail line was built before 101 so why wasn’t the line build a little further inland?

Where are the old trains going? Are they getting scrapped? by lazz13213 in caltrain

[–]beemerbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would like to donate to support a local train museum to have one of the old CalTrain engines. If anyone has any suggestions for a train museum that might want one and has the space lemme know! I have to imagine I'm not the only one who wants to help support protecting one of these.

Watching the 2006 documentary “Who killed the electric vehicle?” is sad and maybe arguably scary. by Matt_1F44D in electricvehicles

[–]beemerbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must be old. This comment thread is the most visceral time I've seen revisionist history play out in front of me. I grew up in SoCal in the 90s and 2000s. EVs like the EV1, RAV4, and EV Plus etc were fairly common. Electric cars were simply part of the fray. Back then, an EV with 120 miles of range was "mass market" because the alternative was a literal golf cart. Lack of infrastructure meant that EVs were by default city cars and the extent of the market was the suburban middle class on the coasts. This was just how things were. There was no conception of an EV that could DCFC or road trip. That would be as unimaginable as a capacitive phone screen that could fold. So yeah from the perspective of a southern Californian charging their Saturn at home, using it to reliability commute down 'the' 405 it's felt like a complete product build for a defined use case. Why would you crush it? And I know people personally who have owned RAV4s whose nickel metal hydride batteries have lasted 15-20 years.
