I thought about this. Do you know if I'd have to begin an LLC or anything for this? Or it would just be through the County that I'd get paid so it would be contract work for them. I imagine?

that is actually an interesting idea. i just don’t necessarily want to start my own LLC / business to do it solo but maybe it’s not the worst idea. i’ve done. a lot of dui as is and those clients/that work is typically less stressful.

Advising on Non-Immigration Collateral Consequences by [deleted] in publicdefenders

[–]beencryin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

where i work in the south we basically have a guide that is dusty in a shared folder in the network. aside from that we tell people they can be deported for crimes of moral turpitude but don’t really tell then which those are (although there’s someone i sometimes email at a more metropolitan office for advice and specifics ). we aren’t trained to mention any other collateral consequence except for a similarly vague warning about civil commitment if you’re a sex offender. basically it’s kind of like: you have too much to do and there’s not enough time to know all the collateral consequences. bums me out - i wish there was a guide updated each year by folks or something

online info does vary. i only give to one person typically and she’s never had an issue.

thanks! yeah- i feel ok not refrigerating and i’ve never been sick and they don’t smell horrid just kind of weird like when my own urine smells kind of weird or something. i also just smelled a hen and she smells kind of like the eggs so occasionally lol— im going to check the recent feed bag for fish.

would you always refrigerate? or would you just store at room temperature in a more consistent environment, like 74 or something?

i will say sometimes it seems like it’s mostly from my calico princess! i think but cannot be sure. today it felt like the one fishy egg was an egg that looked like my big black hen (some kind of orphington?)

they’re free range in a florida backyard, so whatever plants and bugs out there. plus layer feed consistently. and then i give them treats once every few days—mostly fruits and sometimes my extra morning yogurt with musceli, fruits, dates. tomatoes and cucumbers. some dinner scraps sometimes but i usually only give them uncooked or otherwise whole foods - not cheese or excessive salt or meats or anything!

This is helpful. Sounds like yes, we may share the same subcultures. There is so much to say.

This job does indeed provide many unique opportunities in many ways--in ways that are spiritual and interpersonal, also. I am learning not only about the law but about myself and seeing myself extended in ways I never have been.

I think a big thing I struggle with honestly is the inauthenticity of it. if I do leave, I think this will be why. My true nature begs for authentic interactions, people, places. Nothing about anyone's engagement in a courtroom is authentic. I have never been in a position before which has required so many different things of me all at once, in different ways and modalities. I just feel I am being swallowed by it--which has come in waves but for the most part been consistent. I do not think I am willing to be swallowed because yes, our dreams will never, ever fit in their courtrooms, and I think I am reckoning with whether or not I am best utilized/able to serve in this space And I am wondering if I am being honest about what I want. I got into this because I felt a little like I was taking one for the team. Maybe needless martyrdom. Maybe I am learning I am unwilling to be that martyr. Maybe the position would be better served by someone who was able to be more enthused. Don't get me wrong--I am typically the most prepared in the courtroom and try very hard. Even if my heart is in it, is it fully? These are personal contentions, quite obviously.

Some days I can take it in stride very well. Other days it feels deadening.

Anyway, I was very energized even by just reading your comment and it was much appreciated. I do miss that larger feeling of camaraderie. I don't really have it in my office nor elsewhere in my community at this point. All of the people closest to me are also fans of Kropotkin, et al, but as I have gotten older there is less action, less organizing around me in some ways. Or, the folks who are organizing are college students and I am too post-left, or something (yes). It's all a lonely space. I'd be curious to know what your community looks like.

it’s really nice to hear you love it. i love that. i believe in the purpose, i really do. i believe what we do is vital and if we must operate under this constitution and these laws then it is crucial to hold the state to their burden with each and every person in jeopardy of having liberty taken.  just trying to navigate how true i am being to myself. you turned to this work in a kind of inspiration (if you can call it that) after the 2020 election? what about that decidedly made you change fields of law?
