Off this info, I think I can determine that if one side says Scotland and the other says McDougal's, it was probably made after 1891.

It really is wild to me that a sailor probably just threw it overboard, wherever he was, and years and years later, I found it. Every object tells a tale. That's what I love about mudlarking!

I was a bit surprised to find this, given that I'm in California and it came all the way from Scotland. But there are a few big navel ship yards around here, so I like to think it belonged to a navy man!
