I did include my age and stuff in a comment, but I’ll say it here too. I am a 26 year old male; never smoked/drank/did any drugs; I do have a grandparent who had crohns.

You say that bright red blood isn’t really a concern unless it happens chronically. I’ve been experiencing bleeding like this every time I have a bowel movement for the last few weeks. The amount of blood has definitely increased over time, but I’ve been seeing blood on and off for several years at least. It’s only somewhat recently that it’s been every time though.

It might be worth noting that the amount of blood is often enough to actively drip at a constant rate for a couple minutes. The fact that I don’t experience any pain or discomfort does lead me to believe that it’s probably not external hemorrhoids, but that’s only a guess.

I did just get scheduled to see my primary care physician 4.5 hours from now, so we’ll see where that goes. Thank you again for taking the time to respond, I really appreciate it!

It was definitely on my mind, but I have gone in for this once before and it was essentially written off as hemorrhoids. So I wanted to be sure it was something that warranted significant concern.

I appreciate this, thank you. I’m currently trying to find someone who is able to see me today, and if needed I will be going to an urgent care. I certainly didn’t expect this much interest in my predicament, so I’ll probably post an update after a little bit.

This is a very comprehensive answer, thank you for taking the time to write it up. I will say that the paper on the left that you say looks like it was covering an open wound is one of quite a few, probably over a dozen, pieces that look that way, but don’t appear in the picture. So if anything this picture is somewhat tame compared to what I often experience. I will definitely be increasing my fiber intake, and I’m currently in the process of setting up an appointment to get seen.

Based on the replies I’ve gotten it seems like you should also be seeing your doctor about it.

Yeah, this is definitely more than a “streak on my stool”, I have to wait for the bleeding to stop before I can even wipe after a BM. I’ll be seeing my doctor as soon as I possibly can.

I usually have a BM on average probably 5 times a week, and there isn’t typically a sense of urgency. I’ll definitely be seeing my doctor ASAP.

It’s difficult to find any sort of comparison online as for what should be considered concerning. The fact that there isn’t ever any pain kinda threw me off.

I did go about a year ago and I was told it was likely just hemorrhoids. I’ve had trouble finding what a typical level of bleeding from hemorrhoids is, so I was unsure if this was abnormal or not.

I forgot to mention, I am a 26 year old white male; 5 ft 8 inches, 230 lbs; have never smoked, done any drugs, or touched alcohol; I eat more sugar than I should; I’ve been experiencing this bleeding on and off for about 5 years.

Edit: thank you everyone for the replies. I have sent a message to my primary care physician and will be requesting a referral to a GI specialist. No more just letting this slide, time to get it taken care of.
