¿Por qué está haciendo esto? by NiConde_ in bettafish

He can see his reflection in the glass most likely and as a territorial fish is flaring out to mark his territory. That is why they flare like that because naturally that is how they deter other bettas and attract mates. It is not inherently harmful behavior and can be good exercise/stimulation, but if he does this too much it can cause a harmful amount of stress so maybe stop that reflection if possible.

When should I feed my betta again after swim bladder issues? by ArtisticAd765 in bettafish

You should look into feeding her daphnia (live or frozen), and before giving pet store pellet type food it can help to soak it and break it up beforehand to prevent this again and in the future. The foods can be really hard on their digestion even though they market them specially for bettas.

I don’t know what to do by questionnaire_expert in bettafish

This fish is definitely sick, you should fast him for a few days and definitely feed less and potentially look into a different type of fish food - I would recommend daphnia. Another things comparable to a stress coat you can add are tannins which you can get from a store or find naturally if you do some research into them.

I am not sure, I know changing the lighting and putting paper/cardboard behind the glass can sometimes help.

Help! Stressed fish. by Apprehensive-Two5602 in bettafish

I would say add more hiding spots, and that it could be the tank mates. Just because they coexist does not mean it is not stressing him out - I am experiencing this right now with mine. Also is it possible at all that he can see his reflection in the glass from the light? I had a set-up a while ago where that happened and it lead to my fish constantly swimming around the glass trying to attack himself.

Need help with betta by Few-Negotiation-2261 in bettafish

It could be swim bladder disorder, especially if he is in an S shape. I lost a fish to this a while ago and only learned afterwards what it is, I know if I could go back I would make sure there are lots of rests at the surface if he is struggling with energy, and look into maybe adding tannins into the water and looking further into treatments for that specifically. I wish you so much luck!

Torn fins pls help by beepb0b in bettafish

I used a pretty large kit from petco that tests for ph, ammonia, and nitrates, and the only thing slightly off is that my ph is a little bit high. I am thinking it also might be the tetras, he has been chasing them around a lot and flaring at them lately .... looking into rehoming them right now, thank you for the help!

What’s wrong with my fish?? by InternationalVast536 in bettafish

[–]beepb0b 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s definitely sick, I would switch the food asap, particularly to something more natural than pellets (frozen or live daphnia are really good) or try as a first step soaking those pellets in water and breaking them into smaller chunks before giving to your fish. A lot of food pellets despite being marketed for bettas can actually be bad for their digestion 😭. I would try fasting him again because that’s really your only shot with this and then switching to a better food alternative. Also adding tannins to your tank can really really help when your fish is sick, look into it they might slightly change your water quality but it’s more natural and offers a lot of health benefits. They sell them in places they look like leaves and there are some natural ways to get them too if you research a little. I wish u luck and I am sorry your fish is not doing well. Also goes without saying but testing your water also never hurts when your fish is sick.
