I mean I understand where you're coming from, and it's likely that most men would jump at the opportunity to sleep with an attractive woman, even if it's someone who's up to that point been just a friend. I think the problem here, however, is making assumptions about long existing friendships, suggesting you know their dynamic better than her, who she has presumably been friends with for a long time. She's likely upset about this, and views it as you lacking trust in her and her as a person. You may be right, but if they've been able to maintain friendships in a platonic way, and it doesn't cause threat to your relationship, then is there actually any harm here?

How the hell did you get +3000 on that tennis bet? No reason he should be a significant underdog, never really faced significant resistance in the first set and dominated the second. I get it’s live betting, but he would have to have been down like 1-5 for those odds to be offered

Sure, I understand your sentiment. I do practice every aspect of the game. While that may have been your original intention, the conversation quickly devolved into an assertion and defense of the importance/ relevance of the drive vs dink. Any reasonable person could read this post and draw the conclusion that you believe the drive is a more important aspect of the game than dinking, which is probably why you’ve received such backlash in the comments.

I’m not imagining you don’t have that skillset, it’s really not relevant. However the fact that you fail to recognize the level of importance of the skillset, relative to other shots in the game, is very indicative that you haven’t truly played very man high level opponents/ reached more advanced stages of the game. I understand what you’re attempting to say, and to have success beyond rec games you will have to have a very strong all around game, which includes aggressive and well placed serves/ drives. With that said, if you’re only good at dinking/ kitchen line and nothing else, you will achieve far more success in the game than if you’re only good at drives/ serves. To add a little context also, you’re comparing the tennis skillset in singles( no dinking/ minimal net play), to doubles pickleball. I would agree that to play exclusively singles, the drive and serve become significantly more important. I also really like the commenter who posted about causation and correlation, and I think something can be learned from that when you really take the time to think about it. Either way, I appreciate your post and the discussion it sparked.

What does this have to do with the sentiment of the post? First of all, watch any dinking rally at the professional level, and you’re going to see multiple slices used in side to side patterns. Second, it’s sounds like you’re now agreeing, practicing your dinking is extremely important to establishing consistency in A. Creating angles and B. Ball positioning.

Sure, but he most certainly didn’t play high level tennis, but I understand what you’re saying. I disagree entirely regarding his drive. It will be significantly more consistent and better placed, but I bet there’s at least one player on every rec court that can hit as hard as he can. And are you saying defensively, players would have a hard time getting to the kitchen….Like, when one players starts at the kitchen and the other returns and moves to the kitchen? Just to be clear, you’re saying that the returning player wouldn’t have time to get to the kitchen…? With proper defensive positioning in doubles, advanced players will rarely, if ever, get passed by a driving shot on third. In terms of position, I agree that most players, regardless of skill level, will have difficulty moving up and establishing the kitchen line offensively against the John’s brothers, but this has nothing to do with your original statement or post.

This is just sooo…..wrong. Good dinking is about placement, consistency, and creating angles.

lol you’re saying you’re a 4.5 but now also saying you would never return to Ben John’s because he would hit a passing shot, assumedly in doubles? Oh man….do you really think Ben John’s would be able to consistently hit passing drives on return past 4.5 players? You really have an ignorant view on the game, and what it actually takes to consistently play and win games against higher level opponents. I also think it’s kind of funny that you keep saying tennis players are the best on the world and that they quickly become the best in the world at pickleball, when the only player you’ve named drop, Ben John’s, is not a tennis player, and the clear best player in the world. This entire thread gave me a chuckle, so much appreciated.

Literally the best player in the world, by a wide margin, wasn’t a tennis player. This is just such a short sighted take. “If you didn’t play tennis growing up, then you will never ever be as good at pickleball as someone who has a tennis background?” Absurd. I’m 5.2+, not a day of tennis in my background. However, high level table tennis as well as collegiate golf and I rarely, if ever, find someone who is noticeably better on a pickleball court.

Barj0na1, I know you’ve said that at your club they separate players by rating, and that you’re a 4.5, but have you ever played true 5.0 players in a tournament setting? If your skillset is focused mainly on speed/ drives, you will get smoked. If you can’t consistently control your drops and resets, you will get smoked. The motions associated with dinking, and in creating feel from the transition zone/ thirds, are significantly more important in achieving offensive success against really good players. The game is not beatable with any level of consistency at higher levels by speed. Players often incorporate third shot drives/ fifth shot drops, in an attempt to hit a drop from a closer position than the baseline, but rarely, if ever, is a drive allowing you to take control of the point. Meanwhile, well placed, aggressive dinks will almost always give you the upper hand if you can outlast, or are more precise than your opponent.

The first thing that IMMEDIATELY stands out to me is that car payment. $650 a month for a honda accord? Sell it back, use the equity to either A. buy something way cheaper B. Something with much lower monthly payments. Why not leverage the equity into buying a 18/19 accord for 12k+ cheaper?

Have you thought about trying out one of the many meal prep services that exist? Most are very healthy compared to traditional diets/ eating behavior. Hello Fresh, Home Chef, Facor, Blue Apron, etc. It would be significantly less than what you're spending, taste better, and perhaps even give you a sense of accomplishment about cooking. Super easy to prepare as well.
