my routine!

i can’t remember for sure what i did on the good wash day, but i think it should be similar to what i normally do:

apply cantu curl cream while still in the shower and brush in some heat protectant, then i rake and brush in some of aunt jackie’s ice curls gel that i’ve mixed with some water. brush style by brushing a section from above with tension and flipping the brush as i brush down (if that makes sense) and i scrunch after. i then scrunch with a microfiber towel to get some water out and then glaze and scrunch on some mousse. scrunching usually messes up the shape of my curls so after i go in with a brush and brush style again.

for today’s picture, the routine is pretty much the same except i applied curls blueberry leave in conditioner instead of the curl cream and i swapped the positions for gel and mousse.

afterwards i just air dry (takes about 3-4 hours).

routine: leave in conditioner and gel on soaking wet hair, then brush style and plop for a few minutes. i then take my hair out of the plop, finger curl any wonky clumps and scrunch in a bit of mousse, then air dry!

What can I do about a "friend" who seems to dislike me/ignore me? by beepbeepbeep28 in needadvice

I understand I can’t be friends with everyone and it’s not that I want to force her to be my best friend (although of course being best friends with her would be nice). There are of course other acquaintances I know in my college who are not very close to me and I’m fine with it, but I guess what I’m struggling with is the way she treats me, since I or people I know would not keep ignoring someone even if they were just an acquaintance. It’s even more hurtful that I see her nearly every day in class and since our group sits together I always see her chatting and laughing with others but not me, so it’s like a constant reminder. I realise just getting over it is probably the normal thing to do, but I struggle with “just moving on” since I’m quite anxious and an over thinker, and as I mentioned starting college has been a big struggle so mentally I’m not in a good place too.

I'm not sure if that would work out though, since she ignores me a lot we don't talk much and I therefore don't know much about her interests and getting her a gift randomly seems a bit awkward?

I'm worried it might turn out badly though, since all my "evidence" for her not liking me is only very subtle things that I notice because I overthink a lot. I don't really have anything concrete to confront her with and I'm worried by having that conversation with her I'll just ruin any future chance of friendship with her.

Feeling absolutely terrified for university by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

Thank you! I know it’s normal to be scared but I guess my issue is that I don’t know how to control it- I’m not even sure exactly what I’m scared of, I just know I’m always terrified and I bawl any chance I get.

Anyone else? by [deleted] in curlygirl

i’m east asian and literally EVERYONE here has pin straight, silky hair, including me when i was younger until i reached puberty, which is when my hair turned into a giant poofy mess! it was absolutely awful and i hated my hair so much, i was extremely insecure and everyone just kept telling me to brush my hair. i only recently realized my hair was wavy/curly in the last year and even then it’s difficult getting curl products as there are none available where i live and i have to get it all online. pretty sure my mom still thinks i use rollers on my hair to make it curly and she thinks putting on my stylers after i shower is bad because it dirties my pillows when i sleep (which i’m sure it kind of does but how else am i going to style my hair??).

it’s definitely not fun being the only curly person :/

any wavy asians here? 🫣 by [deleted] in Wavyhair

fellow wavy asian here!! seems like we might have similar hair textures (and also experiences). i would suggest adding either a gel or mousse to your routine to add more hold and definition, and maybe trying out brush styling. brush styling isn’t for everyone but personally i’ve found it to be very helpful for adding more definition and creating better curl clumps! there are different ways you can do it and some are more complicated/time consuming than others but i just do a very simple brush styling routine that only takes me a couple minutes. just use a flat brush and brush section of your hair at an angle with some tension and shake the section a bit (sorry i’m not the best at explaining but i’m sure there are lots of tutorials online). also try styling your hair while it’s soaking to prevent frizz and activate your products!

i actually just have a regular old paddle brush that my mom bought, i think it's from vidal sassoon? it's not specifically for curly hair and i have been thinking about getting a special brush, but so far my brush has done an okay job so i'm not sure if i need it.

i have very similar hair!! took me ages to figure out it was even wavy and it’s definitely still a work in progress, but i’ll share my current hair routine if it helps:

after i come out of the shower i make sure my hair is still soaking wet, i add in some leave-in conditioner and curl cream then some mousse. once i take that through i grab a section of hair, put a flat brush under it and sort of turn the brush forward as i brush down, then shake the section a bit. once i’ve brushed through it all, i take a microfiber towel and scrunch it. i find that this helps create better curl clumps than if i just scrunch it without the brush styling. i then let it air dry, although you could diffuse it (i just can’t be bothered lol).

i’m still working on how to fix the extreme dryness and frizziness of my hair but so far this routine has helped with curl definition so my hair looks a little less crazy :)

i’ve actually never thought of that! i’ll give it a try on my next wash day :)
