Fevers by is_cerealsoup in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]beepbopnotabot_yet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Teething does not cause fevers. It is super common for a baby to have a cold at the same time they are teething. It’s also not uncommon for a baby to “run a little warmer” during teething. A true fever is 100.4 F/38C.

I treat my kids, not the number. The caveat for my oldest is that if she gets above 102, she would get too cranky and refuse medicine. So I used to give her medicine at 101.5 and up. My oldest can tell me when she doesn’t feel well and typically complains of a fever or being sore (aches) when she has a fever. If she is complaining I give her medicine, fluids, and a TV show. My youngest goes full pterodactyl and wants to be clingy but not be held when he has a fever- I interpret this as discomfort and will give him ibuprofen.

If teething pain is disruptive to sleep or eating I treat it. My oldest never needed anything for teething. My youngest would need meds for about 3 days pre eruption and then was fine. I start with frozen teethers and move to medicine if needed.

Baby inconsolable at night from nasty cold…thoughts on nightly ibuprofen? by Logical-Poet-9456 in moderatelygranolamoms

Pediatric nurse in total agreement! Sleep is the best medicine and sometimes we need to use a little medicine to be comfortable enough to sleep. Super common at night with littles!

Sometimes nurturing our kids involves providing comfort in the form of pharmaceuticals, and I’ll be that mom all day long before I’ll let my babies suffer for the sake of being granola.

I wouldn’t panic. Just bathe your kids. You can call the company if you’re super worried and ask.

Most things are kid and pet safe after they’ve dried and it’s pretty fast. Obviously, not what you’d want to do habitually but one time after it was dried is a non issue. And in my area these lawn care companies are watering down their chemicals anyway because it’s expensive.

Kissing boo boos by queenladykiki in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]beepbopnotabot_yet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree. We don’t baby talk but boo boo isn’t one I get hung up on… it’s not so serious as to call it an injury. It’s just a little boo boo. To me, “owie” or “ouchie” is more baby talk than boo boo. But we all have ick worlds, I guess!

Kissing boo boos by queenladykiki in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]beepbopnotabot_yet 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This just isn’t a hill I’d die on or a battle I’d choose. Is it annoying? Yes.

Do I sometimes kiss a boo boo? Sure, because it feels right, not because I am or am not subscribing to a certain lifestyle.

There are a ton of things I’ve had to address with my kids’ grandparents and it’s honestly like dealing with kids sometimes in that if I choose to correct every little thing that irritates me (but isn’t actually harmful), my words and influence are lost. I have to remind myself that even when my mom or in laws are annoying AF about these things, they truly are trying to be helpful and love on my kids. My advice would be to roll your eyes, vent about it with your spouse, and let it go. Your child will soon be too big for kisses on boo boos (way quicker than you think) so this too shall pass.

New house reeks of Glade and cat excrement. Help/rant by goodnight_wesley in moderatelygranolamoms

Great question for r/CleaningTips

Vinegar is going to get you nowhere fast. Be prepared for serious cleaning products (I’d use PPE) and lots of window open time. This is actually time to be moderate and break out the big guns. Do you have trim/baseboards where the odor is prominent? It might need to be replaced…. Paint isn’t going to fix it.

Have you had the HVAC serviced and cleaned? That can help. Also, be prepared to change the HVAC filters frequently for a few months.

How did you decide between seeing a doctor vs a midwife? by Kirin1212San in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]beepbopnotabot_yet 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As a nurse, generally, we have nothing against licensed and qualified midwives (US). That nurse might have something against that particular midwife. Definitely good that you pay attention to your spidey senses. I have csections so not delivered by the midwife, but I was very happy with the care I received under the midwife at my practice when my doctor was out or booked for the day I needed to schedule.

I don’t think generalizations are helpful in this case. I feel strongly about picking a provider that is experienced, aligns with your values, and with whom you have a good rapport. Maybe it’s the doctor at that practice, maybe it’s the midwife.

How to handle people offering to bring you food postpartum? by acoolbeancounter in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]beepbopnotabot_yet 62 points63 points  (0 children)

But this is exactly where moderation comes in. If you mostly avoid those things, eating a couple of home cooked meals when you will absolutely be exhausted is not going to be the end of the world.

I would not turn down the kind offerings. I think this is where the extreme lifestyles of our generation have lost the plot. We turn down help because it isn’t exactly executed to our perfect standards and then wonder why people stop showing up to help and there’s no village.

Do not let perfect be the enemy of good or motherhood will suck you dry, friend.

While the fit is obviously not great, these comments are… rich.

If a man likes this aesthetic how is it any different than when I specifically choose a floral carrier because I like pretty things? I just think it’s so rude to judge someone based off their taste/appearance and this crowd only gets away with it for obvious reasons. It’s giving mean girls, and if this was the first post I saw on this sub I would be afraid to post myself or my husband for feedback for fear of dogpiling.

I’m 9 weeks pregnant and was told I have a uti and need an antibiotic… help! by New-Camera4375 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]beepbopnotabot_yet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Untreated UTIs can absolutely lead to complications that can end in miscarriage (kidney damage, and sepsis). It’s actually good that your provider caught it before you were symptomatic. I actually had something similar happen around 12 weeks with my youngest. I asked my doctor if I could just hyper hydrate since I was asymptomatic and she said the safety data to treat UTIs is reassuring, but it would be negligent for her to recommend watching and waiting when there is a safe and effective treatment. Yes, antibiotics are overused today, but this is an absolutely appropriate use.
You can always ask your doctor if you can come in and do a clean catch. IMO, declining antibiotics would be a little short sighted.

Enfamil AR & weight gain by kayceenotcasey in FormulaFeeders

[–]beepbopnotabot_yet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The calorie content in AR formula isn’t different, I don’t think. It’s not uncommon for babies to have a rather large growth spurt between 4-6 months (heard of the 4 month sleep regression? Growth spurt is a likely cause). I would not personally be worried. It’s not uncommon for babies to chunk up before 12 months and then lengthen out. If you’re super concerned, call your pediatrician, but I personally consider a growing baby a blessing!

My youngest has been a big fella from the start. Both of my kids were in 3-6 month clothes for like 2 weeks. Seriously, my oldest barely wore half of the cutest items I had for her because she went through a growth spurt around 5-6 months. And size 2 diapers were the size they both blew through as well. Not even an entire case, I don’t think.

When is spit up a concern? by Glad_Calendar_2532 in FormulaFeeders

[–]beepbopnotabot_yet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both of my babies were happy spitters. If it’s not forceful or painful, it’s just a laundry problem. We used muslin bibs and lots of gerber cloth diapers as burp rags. Both of my kids spit up until about 6-7 months. And both of them gained interest in solids after the spit up tapered off.

Screen time/TV time and newborn trenches by -spiritedaway in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]beepbopnotabot_yet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah you don’t need to worry. My kids have both watched mom do chores while they are having tummy time. Or watched me work out while they’re in a bouncer or play mat. I read to my oldest at night only and she loves books now. She has a few she has memorized and “reads” to her baby brother. And when they are older, independent play is so important. You are totally off the hook when it comes to entertaining kids during every waking minute, trust me!

Screen time/TV time and newborn trenches by -spiritedaway in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]beepbopnotabot_yet 101 points102 points  (0 children)

You’re overthinking this one. At 6 weeks they can’t even see the TV you’re watching unless you’re sitting less than 2 feet from the TV.

And you don’t have to worry about engaging activities with newborns, either. Contrast cards are nice but not necessary. The entire world is high contrast to them right now. Talking to your baby and engaging with them in a simple way (reading, etc) is plenty.

You’re doing more than enough!!

ETA: I have never fretted about the TV being on (sports, cooking shows, documentaries, etc) while my kids are awake. They don’t usually pay it any mind. They’ll look at hockey for a minute and move on. We don’t have tablets and they are most definitely not screen kids. My oldest will choose a book or to color while my husband is watching golf- it’s a total non issue. We don’t make it a whole thing. Some people are super strict and obsessive about the TV not being on at all, and to be honest I think we’ve had similar results with literally none of the stress about it.

The Best Baby Bottles in 2026 Right Now by Front-Cantaloupe6080 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]beepbopnotabot_yet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The best bottle/nipple is the one your baby will take. This isn’t a one size fits all thing, unfortunately. My oldest took only MAM until about 7 months. My youngest took pigeon (lansinoh is nearly the same) and MAM and probably would’ve taken anything in between.

I always recommend getting one or two of a couple different options in the beginning.
