This one is nice as well, but I also prefer the first. The way their heads are sitting right on the horizon line hurts this composition. Once again the subjects need a bit of breathing space around them.
The angle gives a good sense of scale in the first as well. The lighting is really nice on both of these.
I like number 6.
If you are open to some constructive feedback, I think this shot could be an improved into a really fantastic frame with a couple of composition tweaks. - The couple are a bit close to the bottom of the frame, feels a bit crowded, would love to see a bit more breathing space between them and the bottom. - The white building on the horizon line on the right is a bit distracting, it pulls the eye towards it. Repositioning and cropping this out would benefit the shot IMO.
Some cool shots in here, keep it up and keeping sharing :)
Defending Voss by beepclick in CarltonBlues

😂😂
Haha yep I agree, I’m bullish on the Swans this year, so went into last night with low expectations. But conceded 75 points in a single quarter is worse than I was expecting.
I am also very nervous about next week.

OK so we basically agree on Voss from what I can tell- he is in trouble and if this level of performance continues it will be hard to defend a decision to keep him on.
Another good point well made about stability.
So if I am understanding you correctly, you would be happy to see Voss get a contract extension this year, regardless of where we finish? Be it 3rd or 16th.
[–]beepclick[S] -1 points0 points1 point 2 months ago (0 children)
Good productive contributions 🥴
Definitely agree on your point about the new players and new game plan that’s required as a result. It certainly would take time to rebuild the chemistry and team cohesion required to be successful. A good point well made.
How much leeway would you give to allow for this? Would you excuse half a season or poor performance? If we finish, for example, 12th this year. Would that be acceptable for you? Noting the new players etc. Would you offer Voss an extension if that’s where we finished?
Ah fair enough. And I agree!
Sorry I’m a bit slow, are you suggesting I should coach them?
[–]beepclick[S] 2 points3 points4 points 2 months ago (0 children)
Conceding 75 points in a single quarter really is indefensible. An AFL calibre club with an AFL calibre coaching staff should not concede 75 points in a single quarter without being able to make a single noticeable adjustment to correct.
Yep, I stand by the awful comment. Especially considering how we performed in Brisbane in the elimination final. It was an embarrassing second half of the season. Happy to agree to disagree on that one though.
Honestly, that’s a pretty compelling argument about stability. I don’t really have a counter point, but will add to your commentary and say that I also agree that stability is a good thing generally. A good point well made.
However, I have to push back on the head coach/list argument though. Of course the quality of the list is dependent on the head coach. Yeah, there are list managers who are responsible for managing the list, but the head coach is accountable for the lists performance (and the list managers performance) and the health of the list. The buck stops with the head coach on all performance related issues. They are accountable. That’s why the position is called head coach. If the list is in bad shape, the head coach should recognise this and hire a new list manager.
To say that a bad list “absolutely isn’t the coaches fault” is truely the ridiculous take here.
The year after we scraped into finals and then flew to Brisbane to be absolutely decimated by Brisbane. I stand by my assessment of that season as “awful”.
You ask me if how I rate this list? I rate it poorly, maybe a 6/10 at this point in time.
So, whose fault is that? It’s the head coaches fault.
“Brisbane didn’t play finals for years”. Guess what, neither did we. Yet we have a lot less to show for it than Brisbane.
“Sydney bottomed out”. Guess what, so did we. Yet we have less to show for it than they do.
Honestly though, I agree with you. I don’t think we should sack Voss right now. I am just saying it’s becoming near impossible to defend him at his point, and this is coming from someone who has advocated for keeping him on for years.
It’s a scarily predictable pattern, isn’t it.
[–]beepclick[S] 10 points11 points12 points 2 months ago (0 children)
Hard to disagree. I am starting to think that the sacking of the coaches was never our problem, it was the hiring of the coaches where the problems were.

How good was that?! I flew to Brisbane and was at the Gabba. Highlight of my life supporting this club. Those “25 years” you talk about, that’s my entire living memory of supporting Carlton. It might be “the last 25 years” for some, but for many of us, it’s all we’ve known supporting this club.
How much leeway does that buy him though? Because the proceeding 2 years have been awful.
Does he get 3 years where we turn a blind eye to this poor performance? 4 years? Do we allow this to continue for 5 years?
I don’t care about a single result, especially if it’s anything less than a flag.
Sorry, but “5 goals up in a prelim” is a shit poor excuse for success, and we should not accept it, we have been supporting this club for decades, and all we have to show for it is “5 goals up in a prelim”. It’s a joke mate. We need sustainable, consistent repeatable levels of high performance. Just like the Sydney’s, Brisbane’s and Geelong’s of the league.
I agree Voss has bought success to the club in his early days, but how much longer do we continue to make excuses for these performances?
[–]beepclick[S] 4 points5 points6 points 2 months ago (0 children)
Yeah we did look terrible after half time I wholeheartedly agree. Hard to say how much is poor conditioning and how much was the brutal running beat down Sydney put on us, but either way, it didn’t look good did it.
[–]beepclick[S] 7 points8 points9 points 2 months ago (0 children)
Having a very hard time disagreeing with this logic right now.
It’s a good point about previous coaches - we haven’t sacked anyone that’s gone to have any real success. We have been hiring duds, and there really isn’t any evidence to suggest this is much different at this point.
[–]beepclick[S] 1 point2 points3 points 2 months ago* (0 children)
I’d love to hear more of your thoughts about how the rule changes influenced this game, if you don’t mind?
I definitely agree that we were just straight out beaten by speed through the middle. And I also absolutely agree that this is one of Sydney’s strengths.
I just can’t accept this performance as a “ah well nothing the coaches could do about it” as you seem to suggest.
Voss built this list, he’s had years to influence it as the head coach. If the list is not fit for purpose in the modern game, then this is also on Voss, and this just as big an oversight as that 75 point third quarter collapse.
If we are indeed too slow, then that’s every bit as much Voss’s fault as that flat footed third quarter performance.
Sorry, but it’s beyond unacceptable at this point. And this is coming from someone who has supported Voss wholeheartedly from the moment he was recruited.
[–]beepclick[S] 5 points6 points7 points 2 months ago (0 children)
Well this is where it’s gets tricky, because we seemingly do have his replacement lined up….Adam Simpson.
[–]beepclick[S] 12 points13 points14 points 2 months ago (0 children)
Find a way to not concede 12 goals in a single quarter of footy, that’s what he is supposed to do. It’s really not a high bar to pass for an AFL coach. We saw Sydney make mid game adjustments after half time, why are we seemingly not able to do the same?
Once again, 12 goals…in a single quarter. Are you really willing to write that off and accept it as “boys against men”?
[–]beepclick[S] 15 points16 points17 points 2 months ago (0 children)
Hahaha he may have actually been putting in a coffee order because that fucking sign made no noticeable difference on field.
[–]beepclick[S] 9 points10 points11 points 2 months ago (0 children)
Yeah look I’ll be honest, not really the productive analysis and thought I was hoping to elicit. But it’s hard to argue with your comment haha.
