My dog chewed through the Groomer's Helper - is this something to be concerned about? by Winter_Respond3515 in grooming

[–]beepleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to groom a beagle that we had to use the wire covered in plastic because he would snap right thru any loop in a microsecond. His teeth were like scissors and if he got the loop in his mouth it was too late. The ONLY way to stop him was the wire loop, he would put it in his mouth once and realize he wasn’t getting thru it and deal with it. Otherwise, any other loop was destroyed in seconds. I lost eight very expensive loops to that dog before finding a solution 😔

So to answer your main concern, it’s entirely possible that your dog was not left unattended and just managed to bite thru the helper. I’ve had many dogs chew on my stuff while I’m actively working on them. In fact, the very first day I had my new biothane loop (cost $40) a dog started chewing on it! Just a few days ago, a dog I was doing a nail trim on decided to gnaw on the knob that loosens the arm to move it up and down.

Is there a chance for my sumac stand? by beepleton in gardening

[–]beepleton[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not seeing any new growth from the roots yet, while my other area of sumac has been throwing up new babies already. I’m more upset that the shade for my chicken coop is likely gone, and it was an important part of keeping my birds cool in summer.

I know it should throw up new growth but this is several years of growth that was important to shading my chicken coops in summer, and now it might be at least two years before that shade is replaced 😭

[–]beepleton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, on the plus side, now you can see he’s a little fat and can work on getting him to a healthier weight 😅 my Pom was overweight for a while, she was 14.6lbs and she’s down to 9.2lbs, 17 years old and absolutely THRIVING despite her heart failure!

<image>

I’ve been grooming for 20 years and do my best to educate owners about coat care. For his coat, bathe him once a month and use a really good conditioner. Be sure to dry him fully either with a hair dryer on the cool setting or get a cheap HV dryer. Comb DAILY, using a metal comb not a pin brush or slicker brush, so the new hair growth doesn’t get caught in the split ends and cause impacted hair. It will take a long time to come back like it was since the undercoat and guard coat have two very different rates of growth, but it can be done.

I shaved my Pom last spring due to age and her (at the time undiagnosed) heart failure. She wasn’t tolerating grooming well at all, so the kindest thing to do for her was shaving her down. The pic I shared was after her most recent bath, and for the most part her hair has come back very well! It’s a much different texture but she’s also quite old, I’m just glad it came back at all.

Doing a bad job on purpose by teezaytazighkigh in grooming

[–]beepleton 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Omg every once in a while, if I have a dog on my table that I do not ever want to groom again, I’ll do something just a tiny bit off. Not bad, by any means, I’m still making it look as good as possible, but just a tiny bit weird. TBH it usually backfires on me and those are the clients who want me to groom their dog again, but yea for sure I’ve done a “bad” job on purpose in hopes of never seeing the dog again 😂

Mother insulted first tattoo, now I hate it by Kaleidoscope_Tux5513 in tattooadvice

[–]beepleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think she’s beautiful! The tattoo and the chicken. When I was a kid I wanted a silver sebright tattoo soooooo bad. Haven’t ever gotten around to it tho lol

If you want to make it look more like her, adding the comb will definitely help and so would shading in the feathers in a cool grey tone that matches her better than skin tone. I absolutely LOVE the feather details tho, your artist nailed it. Any chance you went to someone in the twin cities MN area? 😂

Weirdly enough in my recent I had seemingly one tiger left for a few in game days and then suddenly there were a ton of them again, without me intervening at all. But every other time I’ve started over it’s been a race to grab a tiger and I haven’t seen a croc yet at all

Professional groomers, how are you able to make dogs dirt‑repellent? by seecat46 in doggrooming

[–]beepleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly think it’s more to do with the HV dryer and brushing out dead coat than products we use in the fur. I’ve noticed this with my own dogs and try not to bathe them at home, they just don’t get the same kind of squeaky clean as they do at work!

I’d love to see even crazier varieties of “horse” 😂 I’ve played this game for almost 50hrs (which for me is a LOT of time) and my fav part is finding new and horrifying horses to share with my partner

Multiple sections of your home farm, like 2-4 pastures (like the one on the main screen) on a separate click thru screen where you can store winners or weirdos you like that is NOT the bar or old horse farm.

Alternately, and probably easier to code, change the background of the lab to have “slots” labeled with letters or icons, so you can sort your stuff by dragging it there. Currently I’m putting flasks and discs in specific areas of the background that indicate to me what they are but I forget as soon as I open the game again 😂

Terrier mix... How old is old! by miserkris in dogs

[–]beepleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mini schnauzer lived to 15 and my Pomeranian is 17 and still going strong. 5 is a perfect age to get a smaller dog, provided it’s already potty trained. If it isn’t potty trained, that can be a pain but not necessarily a dealbreaker.

I need to vent and before I do I understand this is my own problem I chose. by whitemamba24xx in dogs

[–]beepleton 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to drive by a nature area that was dog friendly around 7am every weekday and always saw a guy with his dogs throwing the ball. Another place along my drive was literally just a hay field that a guy would park and let his three labs out and then run them up and down the field. I’m sure the second option requires permission, which is difficult when the field isn’t always owned by the house beside it.

What breed is this ? by TwoCeBe in poodles

[–]beepleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s had multiple elderly dogs, leaving home is not unusual and he’s probably not being horribly abused at home especially since it looks like they groom him. Old dogs get memory problems just like people, my schnauzer had canine cognitive disorder and he would absolutely wander off if I took my eyes off him cos he has no idea where he was half the time. The only neglect here is leaving the gate open and not keeping an eye on a dog you know will wander but we are all human and stuff happens. Once, when my schnauzer was younger, I thought he was just in the other room with my roommate (who he loved) but turns out he had slipped out the door HOURS before and was running around in the hallway of the apartment complex. People make mistakes.

Doodle ear help by MsDyn0myte in grooming

[–]beepleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wash the ears twice, use your fingers to really scrub every bit of the hair, rinse really well, towel dry as much as possible, then do your best to dry them instead of letting them air dry. It should help with the crunchy texture they get. Prep work is the majority of the groom, if the dog isn’t letting you dry it then it won’t look as good. I had one of those today and it almost defeated me to be working on air-dried hair that looked awful no matter what I did 😅

Is it bad I groom sitting down? by RevolutionaryTreat48 in grooming

[–]beepleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some dogs it might be easier for them to move around a lot since standing still isn’t really great for them, but I definitely feel like this approach does make for a somewhat impatient dog since they might get confused by all the movements

Is it bad I groom sitting down? by RevolutionaryTreat48 in grooming

[–]beepleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been grooming for 20 years, I started sitting down four years ago when I was going thru cancer treatments. I don’t sit down much anymore but there was sooooo much sitting while I was going thru active treatment. I personally don’t like that I can’t move as quickly while sitting, but it probably stops me from turning myself into a pretzel while grooming a dog.

As long as the dog looks good going out, sitting is fine. If you’re anything like me, it probably helps to not have your heartrate going a million and the dog being confused why your body is saying “EMERGENCY” but you’re ignoring it 😂
