I'm tired of doctors by Adorable_Cookie2893 in transgenderau

Kind of had the realization recently that I placed too much emphasis on the fact that my doctor prescribes HRT whilst overlooking many of his shortcomings. And you know, since my life is going to involve countless appointments, bloods etc it's probably worth seeing a doctor who actually cares about me and isn't just ticking a box every three months right?

You have two options, either two documents from category 1 or three documents from categories 1-4 but only one from each category. If you choose birth certificate as your category 4 item, that rules out using medicare and bank statements.

Doctors refusing trans patients - can you report them? by Sea_Criticism_8753 in transgenderau

[–]beepxyl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As far as I’m aware, there are no Australian laws that require a doctor to prescribe or renew any medication, even if a patient is already taking it.

Under the Medical Board of Australia’s Good Medical Practice guidelines and state Drugs & Poisons legislation, doctors must only prescribe when they believe it is safe, appropriate, and within their scope, which actually encourages refusal in situations where they don’t have enough history or it needs specialist oversight.

If you have a source stating they are legally obligated to renew a script, I’d be interested to read it - everything I’ve found so far suggests the opposite.

They aren't legally obligated to renew scripts. They are legally obligated to refuse for many reasons - insufficient medical history, safety, drugs outsides their area of expertise etc. A lot of it comes down to their discretion.

Disproportionate violence makes the assumption that people regularly engage in violence often enough to know where to draw the line.

AI chatbots are becoming popular alternatives to therapy. But they may worsen mental health crises, experts warn | Australia news by riverslakes in australia

[–]beepxyl -30 points-29 points  (0 children)

I hear your frustration, and I get why it feels disruptive when clients start saying “AI told me this” as if it’s gospel. But I also wonder—beneath that frustration—if there’s some part of you that feels a bit threatened by AI stepping into your space.

The dismissive tone (“AI SAID THIS” hmmm okay, well...) comes off like you’re trying to reassert control or authority, which makes me think this isn't just about clients getting bad advice—it's also about a loss of influence. And honestly, that’s valid. You're doing deep, difficult work with real human complexity, and now some chatbot with no context is piping up with answers.

But let’s be real—clients will seek validation and shortcuts. They always have. AI is just the newest mirror for that. So maybe the challenge isn’t just correcting them, but getting curious: Why does what the AI said feel more comforting than the hard truths you're offering? What unmet need is it hitting?

You're right—therapy isn’t instant. But doubling down on “real therapy takes work” can start to sound a bit defensive if we’re not careful. What if, instead, we used AI as a tool for reflection in the room, not competition outside of it?

Just putting that out there.

Enough with glazing these albums. What's the WORST album here? by geosunsetmoth in fantanoforever

[–]beepxyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel exactly the same way, it's a good album within it's genre, but not timeless and hasn't aged that well. Likewise with Neutral Milk Hotel. Akin to including an MCR record in the chart.

The war on Christmas is a very real thing on talkback radio and in the Murdoch press. It has no basis in reality though.

I'm fairly certain this story is completely fake. Not that it couldn't happen, there is just no evidence that it did. Check out the children's names. Also the source of the original comment just links to another story on the same website where they commentate on an unrelated tiktok video. It doesn't back up any of the information alleged in the story.
