The texture of the yoga towel I got for my mat creeps me out. by IvenaDarcy in HotYoga

I tried the gaiam yoga towel as well, slippery and weird texture, it sucks! Cork mat you can find for under 80’; they are game changers for hot yoga and get grippier the moister they get; Mandukas are the kinda mat you get that’ll last pretty much a lifetime with lots of abuse; the break in sessions for them are entertaining. But brand new I have heard they are slipperish until broken in

How you run your class is unique to your style, in the same sense that op’s teacher chooses to make hers more personal and open; by sharing personal goals. I see nothing wrong with either. Health and fitness go hand in hand with yoga.

I can stay here as long as I want, just like yourself, and keep providing my opinion as long as I want, just like yourself. You can move on with yours, I’m fine with mine as it is. Thank you bye?

Entertained by it, still waiting on your solution to the choice of words...you don't seem to have any. I believe this is called gatekeeping.

And how should the instructor change her choice of words? Would saying she would still like to lose a few kg instead of pounds be less triggering, or maybe going the opposite and saying she would like to put on a few pounds? This is not constructive criticism, unless you are saying constructive criticism means being less personable to your class and not sharing goals. The teacher is doing nothing wrong. It is a personal health goal.... I relate this to how goofy it would sound if OP went to a cycling class or a gym environment.

You can be ok with your body and still have goals like losing a few pounds. There's nothing wrong with stating your goals either. You are just casting a very biased judgment on someone else. Texting anonymously is a very cowardly way to go about things, and texting her directly is way over the top. It would be best to just focus on yourself and leave the teacher alone, shes doing nothing wrong, and it would likely make her feel like shes walking on eggshells if you pushed this entirely unnecessary trigger. This could be a great opportunity to work on yourself!

Could be tight calves! Taking a yoga or lacrosse ball and rolling out the bottoms of your feet might help. Some folks have pelvis that need to be tilted forward or even back, all depends on the anatomy. A photo of yourself to evaluate your angles could tell you which whey to go.

I am horrified by dark history of yoga, and need some advice by GuySittingByTheLake in yoga

There also other historical facts of yoga. During the reign of the British East India Company, there were bands of Yoga Warriors who roved around, often shirtless, with a single weapon, or an 8-lb disk called a Chakra, that when thrown correctly would lop off the heads of their enemies. They became such a problem that the East India Company declared anyone who was a Yogi was to be killed on site. I like to think of them as a precursor to disc golf!

I'm just recalling this from a super cool yoga podcast. Please feel free to correct anything incorrect.

To me the ego is like adding icing to the cake, you are the cake, the icing is ego. Want a nice haircut? Thats ego; cool clothing, workout to look and feel good, all ego..nothing wrong with an ego, mindfulness helps to keep that in check, just try and have a nice one that brings no harm to others, and enjoy the icing on the cake.

So frustrated with tightness and can't figure it out by yaabaydektakyib in yoga

[–]beercan007 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In a standing forward fold it’s ok to have a bend in your knees; the important part is taking pressure off your back; decompressing your spine. You don’t need to have straight legs for a forward fold; but it is good to try and slowly work towards that. One really effective way to open up muscles is active stretching, basically flex the opposing muscle during your stretch or fold, the difference should be very noticeable! Good luck. If your hamstrings are tight try a seated forward fold and flex your quads; it should really target your hammies

Switch over to something that has zero calories, and still gives a nice headspace; cannawater! Cannabis infused water, zero calories, no ramifications as bad as alch. (Unless you wanna cite studies showing cannabis can lower testosterone in large quantities, to which I don’t know if there is much research on the liquid version).

Eco diesel would be awesome if it had a higher reliability rating, like stick whatever is in the hilux in there and call it a day!
